    I'm a writer, but fell into cinematography and photography by accident. But I've come to have a genuine love for them both as they teach me about capturing people. In a single frame or 24 per second, you have to show the audience who this person is, what this person is. I've learned that through the patience of cinematography and photography and it's improved my writing. Now I'm here to about to get the Mamiya 67rb Pro SD and I can't help but think of news ways to tell stories of who people are. Thanks for your channel and inspiration to be something better than what I was yesterday. Cheers,

    Shot at 3:18 is by far one of my favourites, I’ll have to try some multiple exposures on my Maniya 645! Great video!

      Hi Leah. Thanks for stopping by to comment. That shot is one of my faves as well. It's definitely worth experimenting with double exposures, and I'm always amazed at how the results look nice most of the time. Happy shooting and have a great weekend!

    Hello! I’m going to annoy you with all of my questions. I usually have technical questions, because I really want to start shooting double exposures more intentionally. My goal is to have each image/layer appear in each picture. I know that is challenging. I’ve been told to down stop on each exposure. Do you ever consider the greyscale with composition? I know that black retains info & white doesn’t retain info, so it confuses me on knowing which image to take first, so I’m having more successful double exposures. I’m not always in a studio setting, or trying to do a lot of the common silhouette styles. I’m just wanting to understand what I’m doing, so I can have better results.

    • @timothy-mcgaw
      @timothy-mcgaw  5 місяців тому +1

      I don't think about it in tooooo much detail. However what I would say is that I try to keep track of the darkest parts of each layer so that I know this is where there's space to add more light/details (like a whole for more light to come in).
      Not sure if that helps at all? For me part of the fun of doing it on film is being surprised at how it all turns out.

      @BoxOfShockolates 5 місяців тому +1

      @@timothy-mcgaw I think so… but what if you’re doing double exposures with not a lot of shadows? Does this mean the photo will be blown out/overexposed? Metering for more subjects with more light/less shadows is how I get confused. I guess this why downstopping is handy. So what I think of in terms of layering is how I am layering pictures with shadows and not many shadows together. E.g. if I wanted to take pictures of clouds /the sky, if I were to layer it with something darker, I often wonder how the results according to whichever order I take the pictures. If that make sense.

    Really great video, pictures and explanation. I have a rz67 and I’ve started to play with double exposure. Regarding exposure do you double each time time? For example rate portra 400 at 800 so that the final image is normal exposure?
    Happy new year from London

    • @timothy-mcgaw
      @timothy-mcgaw  5 років тому +1

      I tended to expose each image normally, since I wanted it exposed properly. You can, in theory, then build up highlights in areas that get a double dose of light, but in the case of quality films like Portra, they tend to just better the more light you feed them anyway.

    It got me thinking.. did you have the light seals replaced on the RB67 by any chance?

    • @timothy-mcgaw
      @timothy-mcgaw  5 років тому +1

      Hi Franklin. Since I have the Pro SD version of the camera, it doesn't actually use light seals like the other models. I read that was an issue with the other versions of this camera and that was something Mamiya addressed, when making the Pro SD version.
      Hope this helps. Have a great weekend.

    If the red spot is showing is it bc is in double exposure?

    • @timothy-mcgaw
      @timothy-mcgaw  7 місяців тому

      If you flip the switch to reveal the red spot, it means it will allow the shutter to fire, even without winding the film forward. Usually it won't let you fire the shutter until you've advanced the film. So this is like taking the safety off.

      Hi Franklin. Thanks for dropping by. Hope you are doing well also. I've not been super duper well sadly, since about late March I've been having some issues with my eyes and nervous system. However, I am happy to say that I seem to be getting much better now and hope to update the channel with more content once I am feeling tip top. Stay safe and I'll hopefully see you again on the channel very soon.

    • @timothy-mcgaw
      @timothy-mcgaw  2 роки тому

      Hi Garry. It's simply a case of not advancing the film between shots. Expose the same frame twice and you get a double exposure. Hope this helps.
