American society is very cynical. Therefore, we seem to have this unconscious hatred of people who are happy, successful, and confident. I can understand this, as I was a cynical teenager (in hindsight, I was even a really cynical nine-year-old) and it's something that I still fight against. It mostly stems from insecurity and envy. Just know that shaming others for being more privileged, happy, nice, confident, or successful is not going to make you any happier. However, for the person struggling with depression and manage to get over it, those popular lines magically appears to be extremely meaningful and can be understood deeply. She is a very good actress, and she seems to be that kind of person that when has to do something works hard. Maybe some people are annoyed by that, maybe they prefer the "i don't give a damn" attitude of Jennifer Lawrence, but i don't see how you can write things like "shut up bitch, we hate you anyway". Hate is kind of a strong word to use for someone you don't even know and also for someone who hasn't done really nothing harmful to deserve it.

That was a great little speech Ellen gave at the end. People shouldn't mistake someone being emotional with them being weak. And even if someone were to be weak, who in the world are we to spread rumors and make their life worse than it already is? What's moving about this is the blush, or rash on Anne's neck. It shows how this is still affecting her emotionally. Her voice indicates this too. And talking about it in public is difficult. But talking about it openly like this helps her in her ongoing journey to overcome it completely.

Everyone just hates on her because either they're jealous or because in comparison to jennifer lawrence she doesn't exude a self-deprecating type of humor which makes people nowadays believe attest to how grounded you are. it's like because she's so sweet and slightly awkward it's seen as "fake" and used against her. just because she's not your cup of tea that's no reason to hate her though. she's extremely talented and hardworking and I hope to see more of her in the future! wishing you all the success and happiness, Anne :) I look up to you.
I think Anne is really genuine and her saying that just makes her even more real, as opposed to her saying "forget the haters" I've always loved her!

When it is your intention to please, especially, verbal abuse can and does cause deep, injuries and lasting scars. ..put-downs, name calling, insults, belittling and critical statements can literally destroy belief in one's reason for living. I've liked Anne Hathaway and can never get why people dislike her so much? She seems like a genuinely nice person. I've loved Anne every since Princess Diaries and cheered out loud when she won that Oscar! Her performance in Les Mis was OUTSTANDING! Every interview I see with her she seems like such a fun and genuinely nice person. So people who are going to say rude things about other people can shut up and start being a little kinder. i've heard so many people say things like "learned to love myself", "kept on living", "got to know who I was" etc...Yes, but what does that mean? For the person struggling with depression and cyber bullying they need a bit more than these popular sayings.
Those lines sound cheesy for one who doesn't suffer from such a problem. However, for the person struggling with depression and manage to get over it, those popular lines magically appears to be extremely meaningful and can be understood deeply. (Speaking of my own experience.) I'm pretty sure Anne understand those words deeply.
I always liked Anne, but as of late, I've seen more of her that I love. I saw her speech when she won that ally award and this. She really is an amazing person and I hope to run into her one day! I live in Cape May (when I'm not at school!) and my brother actually ran into her once. I would love to at some point and just tell her what she has said has done great things for me.
