While I have tried all four in some form or fashion, I don’t think I’ve done any of them well. I will be revisiting all of these steps to improve. However, I am looking forward to watching your video on authentic peer feedback. I believe you said, you had a video on this topic and this is definitely something I could do a better job of teaching them how to give authentic feedback and collaborate in a way that is helpful and useful.
I'm working with at-risk students this year which is different from teaching ELA for grades 7 & 8! I'm looking for ways that really scaffold the writing process for kids grade 3-8. And, I preordered your book! Thx!
How would you introduce the idea of a podcast? My 8th graders live on their phones but they no clue or interest in podcasts- only very mature content music. :( I'd really like to expand their world and help them find other audible input that is meaningful and constructive. How would you approach this?
Google podcasts for kids. There are so many great options! You can have them listen to a few and discuss what they notice about them. Then go into ideas for their own.
Thanks for these 4 tips. I will try them all also. I am moving to Grade 3 this year from 5 so I am wondering about how the students will move forward.
I will try all 4🎉
Love these helpful tips!
I will try the collaboration step!
I am loving your videos and suggestions. Do you have resources to purchase?
Thank you! My writing curriculum is simplifywriting.com. I know you’ll love it!

Thank you so much! The more casual pre-assessment you can do, the better. We also have wonderful intervention resources in Simplify Writing.
