Medical School Pathology: Pathophysiology of Syphilis

Every discussion of syphilis should acknowledge the study run by the United States Public Health Service: "Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male". We do this in this video.
In addition, we discuss the pathophysiology and clinical/morphologic manifestations of this disease.

Such a great reminder that syphilis is often called "the great imitator". And that it is on the differential of vasculitis. While we are sticking our toe into microbiology - I think medical schools often do a poor job dealing with big issues in that field. They are good with individual diseases but not topics like multidrug resistance, biofilms, quorum sensing, horizontal gene transfer and environmental contributions to microbiology including climate change, human pharmaceutical abuse, and industrial agriculture. Sorry for the vent!
