I happy to see so many people enjoying this video! I just uploaded a DIY Dice organizer with a dice tower built in for anyone interested! ua-cam.com/video/AkebCXBDdCY/v-deo.html
Or add some of those scrap book corners so it can be quickly hooked in for storage or reference but easily taken out to write on or have in a more convenient place during play
The Dollar tree form is designed to have a weaker glue so you can do peal it off. It is meant for us crafter and the paper is just support and packaging to protect the foam in transport and storage
i think something like this would look really cool with the dice tower being book-based! something like scraps of pages from old books or newspaper or something glued in some sort of paper mache-y way to the tower
If you aren’t concerned about a repeating pattern for the cobble, use a small rock to put a stone texture in the foam. Just an idea for someone who doesn’t want to buy or print a rolling pin
This was so fun! The way your eyes light up when you show the finished tower. So good! This is my first video I've seen of yours- you seem really genuine, and I appreciate that! I do want to remind to be careful saying that this is definitively accessible to everyone-- there was definitely a time in my life when I couldn't spare $15. Thank you for a fun video and build! Wishing you the best!
Made a similar one last night! I already had a small box with a magnetic closure that I was able to fit into the "slot" at the end of the "book box". So, it was just a matter of making an opening in the top, an exit at the bottom, and a means of redirecting the dice inside. Then I decorated the outside.
I've done that using PVC pipe, works like a charm. I had to do two passes to get a good texture. I also made another one by wrapping the pipe in sculpey and pushing pebbles into it, then baking. Turned out great!
I bought a wooden book box from Michael's and some balsa wood and made basically the same thing. Little longer to make but last a nice long time and beautiful
I did a cobblestone texture manually while making a Halloween window display for work, out if craft foam, a pen and some paint. It was fun, but yes, SO TEDIOUS XD I need to do this for my D&D stuff!
This looks fantastic, and you're really funny doing it. Thank you! I have a nice tower, but it's a little big to travel with, and it's loud. I love customizing and mod-ing, so this should be so fun to do one afternoon. So glad I found this.
A really nice build. I would be tempted to put some extra bracing in for the dice deflectors, especially if you are using heavier dice. These will get quite a lot of bashing over several sessions and would be a pain to repair. You could use double or triple foam thicknesses glued together (if there is still room for the D20), or add popsicle sticks on the underside. I would also push some pins in from the outside to give extra strength. I would also paint & mod-podge the inside before sticking the front wall on, again to give the deflectors strength.
Holy smokes!!! Great idea and execution! Another quicker way would be to paint the pieces a drak gray then use your stone pattern by applying lighter paint to show the pattern. Still WOW!!! Iwill be using this tutorial as I too have a hollow book!!! Picture to come! Thanks again!
This is the PERFECT how-to video for a fantastic dice tower!! Thank you for making this-I’m excited to try it myself! (And maybe someday I can even make some for my D&D group!) :D Thank you again!! LOVE these crafty cool videos!!
Thank you for the video, I bought the book but decide to to with a super simplistic (no cobblestone) version. I think I may try other materials other than foam later as well, thinking of thinner materials than foam panels
I've watched several dice tower vids, and somehow they skip over the "slanty bits" install so I didn't know if they were doing plinko or what. 3 slopes makes sense!!
For another idea for a cobblestone pattern without the 3d printed item is you can use foil and crinkle it up and use maybe a heat gun or hair dryer to get the foam a bit softer and then mash the foil on top of the foam,
Has anyone made and tested one of these? I'm wondering about the lasting power of foam that's simply hot glued. My experience comes from wood working so my instinct is "omg, this must be so fragile". But it's really tempting also. 🥰🥰🤩
Very cool! Would it be possible to crinkle aluminum foil around a rolling pin? That might be a way to get a pattern without a 3D-printed pattern maker.
Using dollar tree foam core, does the foam get scuffed up? I'd imagine probably not with plastic or wood dice, but what about stone or metal? Might be a good idea to use a sturdier material if you plan on using stone or metal dice.
I love this idea! I don’t care for the tower part, but the book box is a great place to roll dice, as well as to store them along with pens & notepaper. You could decorate the cover & spine with a title like it's a spell book or book of your campaign world's lore. And the inside of the lid is a good place to mount a notecard holder for combat bonuses & penalties or reminders you need when rolling dice.
Its funny to me that a "texture rolling pin" was used in ancient sumeria to write and communicate on wet clay, truly a tool only afforded by nobility and rich merchants. And thousands of years later we are using them to do arts and crafts. Oh the world weve lived.
Since I'm from Germany, I'm kind of stuck with the foam core thing. We don't have Dollar Tree over here, and anything amazon gives me as a result for my search is crafting rubber foam in one form or another... Any advice what foam I'm looking for here...???
Which cobblestone texture is the one you used? There is cobblestone large and cobblestone small and I don’t want the scale to be wonky! Haha. Thanks in advance! Great tutorial. Itching to get started!
I feel it would be cooler to glue old looking fantasy novel (The Hobbit, Chronicles of Narnia, Game of Thrones, etc.) pages on the sides and floor. Like the book came to life in a way.
"It's a big hobby though" - as I am replacing nozzles and conducting stepper calibrations. Thanks for STLs! Update: It is that kind of night, 404 error on the Thingiverse if only they had Sam to do their ads then they would be as cool as the Nordverse.

If you roll only a d4 on the foam tower does it get stuck?
@@indigo_tribe nope!
Put a small character sheet on the inside of the book cover and you've got a complete kit
I thought the exact same thing. Like, a laminated pocket where you can slide an index card into?
Yes, use a clear plastic paper protector and you can change it out easily too
Maybe get some whiteboard paint and then regular paint so can use dry erase markers and write the stats?
alternativley you could add trackers for things like Insperation, spell slots, etc.
The dollar tree has faux spell box themed box boxes now during Halloween
i think something like this would look really cool with the dice tower being book-based! something like scraps of pages from old books or newspaper or something glued in some sort of paper mache-y way to the tower
Amazon actually sells nested book boxes, so you could make the small one into a tower & store it inside the matching larger one.
I'm using a cedar bible box as my dnd kit. Dice set, 5 extra d6, notebook, pencils, eraser, sharpener. Goes on my bookshelf when not in use
If you aren’t concerned about a repeating pattern for the cobble, use a small rock to put a stone texture in the foam. Just an idea for someone who doesn’t want to buy or print a rolling pin
I LOVE this! I actually enjoy taking old books from the thrift store and repurposing them into dice boxes. Now I can make towers for them cheaply!

Hot gluing a stone pattern on a dowel might work as a low budget texture roller!
I am gonna steal that idea! That’s genius

the perfect gift for my girlfriend! I will do that for her :3
Okay, now i have to do this. Add it to the ever growing D&D craft and buy list...
Your wash coat should have the consistency of ink or milk to wash effectively. Great craft idea!
I did a cobblestone texture manually while making a Halloween window display for work, out if craft foam, a pen and some paint. It was fun, but yes, SO TEDIOUS XD I need to do this for my D&D stuff!
Thank you for this. My daughter & I are just starting out & I have plenty of 'empty books' that I can customize so everyone has their own.

Thank you! And being made out of foam instead of wood or plastic REALLY helps to dampen the sound.
so very wholesome content. Awesome project dude. Thanks for the video

Thank you for this awesome tutorial! I was able to follow your steps and make a book tower for my boyfriend! May the dice be with you!
Really nice, I hadn't thought about doing this with my dice box before
Really great idea and I love your geeky enthusiasm 😊thanks for sharing

That's one of the coolest Designs I have seen so far!
Thank you so much. I ended up making a pair of these into diorama style towers for my family for Xmas. They came out amazingly!
I love this idea, I'm a fellow crafter and my wife is a bookworm. She's gonna love this! Thanks for sharing!
i have never in my life played d&d so didnt understand half of that, and yet, thoroughly enjoyed the entirety of this video.

it’s fun seeing the finished product after being apart of the stream

Damn! so cheap and it looks so good!
This is such a cute idea!! I'm just heartbroken that no one i know plays besides me 😪
Excellent design, and excellent video. Thanks. Good work.
Excellent project….we’ll done!
Ok this was super cool thanks UA-cam algorithm!
Love this idea! (And the Nat 20 made me lol).
I just had to hit subscribe for that Nat 20. The project itself is awesome.
Very creative idea! There's so many things you could make out of that empty book!
ESPECTACULAR!!! que gran idea, muchas gracias de verdad.
This but have it be vertical in a bookshelf and have a popup tray at the bottom and a slide entrance at the top to have it roll in the bookshelf
Nice and easy for a beginner thank you
Absolutely love this! Thank you, James!! :D 💕
A idea would be to put something in the inside cover. Ether a spot for the character sheet maybe a picture
The sweet dive tower got the Like. Rolling a Nat 20 gained you a sub lmao🤘👍
Do the wash before the drybrush for better results.
4:30 NICE!!!!!🎉🎉🎉
I've watched several dice tower vids, and somehow they skip over the "slanty bits" install so I didn't know if they were doing plinko or what. 3 slopes makes sense!!

nice build.
4:32 rolling for sleight of hand

What a fantastic idea !!
I am currently building this tower as a christmas present for my DM and my first dice roll try was a nat 1 :(
Give DM cursed dice tower = you never lose combat. Smart play.

This project was so nice! Congrats!
Thank you! I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.
Look at Mr, Crafty McCrafterson over here! It turned out awesome!
I hear the same music used in this Tavern building/management game
I just like watching anything about crafts even though I don't know what its used for lol. But nice video :D
This is absolutely brilliant. I will be making one soon!
Very cool idea. Nice job!
you can just use a rolled up ball of aluminum foil to get that stone effect too
More dice towers!

Truly so many uses!
Thank you. This seems very legit. Has it tested up to time? I feel the foam slats inside would break.....how about metal dice?
Should not be a real problem. I don't think even metal dice would do to much damage to it aside ding the crap out of it.
It's held up great! The key to success is using a LOT of hot glue lol.
Thats really cute.
Its funny to me that a "texture rolling pin" was used in ancient sumeria to write and communicate on wet clay, truly a tool only afforded by nobility and rich merchants. And thousands of years later we are using them to do arts and crafts.
Oh the world weve lived.
And I printed it using about 3 cents worth of plastic lol.
@@JamesChats from signing officious Royal and aristocratic documents to ROLLIES in 3.5 millenia. Not a bad rate
How many x did it take to roll the natural 20? 😎
This is such a cool project! But what is the reason for putting soap in the DIY wash? I've never made my own wash so I'm just wondering :)
It acts as a flow aid which helps the wash flow over the piece instead of just pooling up.
@@JamesChats Thank you! :D
whats the dish soap in the wash for?
Check with your library about 3d printing. I can send that file to my library to be printed, likely for free.
классно получилось!
I am excited to try and make my own. I will say your link to the roller doesn’t go to the roller it goes to a 404 error.
If you don’t have a texture wheel and went that nice rocky look just find your nearest bearded dragon and press him onto your foam board and viola
Someone should 3D print a tower to fit in this book. ;)

@@nikibubbles5958 Aaaaah, super! Vielen lieben Dank für die Antwort!
Try looking for architecture model making foam boards
Thin XPS foam is more similar thing than EVA foam that need different tools to work.
Where does your character sheet go?
To be even cheaper around halloween the dollar tree sales cardboard book boxes that you could use.
I really want to make a dice tower that's a tree for a druid. 👀
Love it!
Hey, i can't find the file for the 3D printer :'(
Does it work with the d4
If it was a mymic it would be a tad bit better but still...better
Hate me for asking..... Whats the background music from???? Literally driving me insane trying to place it.....
A 404 on the rolling pins.
This was such a surprise because I didn’t know that you played TTRPGs! What game do you play your dwarf paladin in? If D&D 5e, which oath did he take?
5e Oath of the Ancients!! I started playing 2 years ago and I LOVE IT. Really digging into my character's story has been an absolute journey.
Which cobblestone texture is the one you used? There is cobblestone large and cobblestone small and I don’t want the scale to be wonky! Haha. Thanks in advance! Great tutorial. Itching to get started!
Let us hope who ever produces Dollar Tree Foam Core never improve the glue.
It'll be a tragic day should it ever come
I feel it would be cooler to glue old looking fantasy novel (The Hobbit, Chronicles of Narnia, Game of Thrones, etc.) pages on the sides and floor. Like the book came to life in a way.
Or DIY the hollow book using, say, The Hobbit, and the tower having one of the illustrations on it. My next next project.
@@areformingamadon how did it go? After a year I finally found a job and a book box at Hobby Lobby today! Can’t wait to get the foam and start working
I gotta throw some light shade: DIY Book Dice Tower ... proceeds to buy prebuilt Booksafe
You got me there
8:02 Why do you sound like you're not too convinced? XD
3 Hours for a work like this is pretty good, not very long, it's fine. ^^
No credit for the black mod podge? To black magic craft? It's a sick build tho

Why not 3d print the whole thing?
Because that's boring and slow
"we use Dollar Tree foam board because they use.... really. Bad glue"
It seems the roller pin link isn't working anymore. The creator must have deleted it, sadly.

"It's very time consuming" Boy I have the whole quarantine period to make these stuff. HAHAHA!
I'm so mad. I just bought a dice tray/holder yesterday and this would have probably cost the same
