A planning Team may conduct planning to achieve asset management objectives but by themselves they are not “asset management”. Another way to thank about planning in this context is to consider Asset Management as an organisational wide "top down" effort versus the "Management of Assets" which aims at a group of assets (or discrete asset) and is a “bottom up” effort. If Asset Management is done well then the top down and bottom up will be supported by an asset management system.
