Mate as a geriatric life long Bach lover( first piano tune Sister Ignatious taught me as an 8 yo in 1950s was his minuet in G/Lover’s Concerto)/would be double/bass player, I love your rendition, of which I too am sure JSB would be proud. Are my ageing eyes deceiving me but, with your 4 string beast, I can’t follow your hitting the bottom C,D notes, as written; ie no 5 string bottom B and can’t match the top D pitch if tuned to BEAD rather than normal EADG? Am determined to learn it regardless. Been to Leipzig; Eisenach next year. Regards Perry
Bravo Nikko! I didn't think I could like this concerto any more. Been listening to it with violins all of my life, then I stumble onto this bass masterpiece! Thank you for the wonderful performance! I might've watched it a few dozen times in the last few weeks :)
Tuning the bass in 5ths from low C (Standard Cello tuning down the octave) opens up a whole new world of bass exploration. Especially in the classical realm because it allows the electric bass to directly access the extensive repertoire of the cello, which I find ridiculously inspiring. Not to mention being able to play all the low notes in a basso continuo, which was de rigueur during the era of J. S. Bach.
Absolutely one of my first influences to explore the unknown on the electric bass... maybe I should start learning the Anesthesia solo in 4ths for historical reference??
Nice video. This Bach guy wrote some pretty good tunes.
Hell yeah he did :D
Quite possibly the greatest bassist of all time?

Thanks, just listened to Gust of Wind and wondered if a bass and violin concerto was possible.
So, you tuned the bass to drop C, so you could reach those low Cs? Impressive i would like to learn the bassline as well as you did. Kudos!

Muito bom, obrigado pela partitura em fá. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Please do the other movements the bass sounds good.
Also Cliff Burton loved and played Bach's music
And I loved and played the riffs that Cliff wrote/brought to life long before classical music was any part of my life!
