To do this piece on an organ is challenging enough but to do it on an accordion is totally amazing! He passed away while on tour in Mexico, from a massive Heart attack, and he was still so young. He was 41yo when he passed, February 16, 2018. When young People have heart attacks, they more often than not, pass away, something that to this day puzzles medical science. Heart attacks for the young are deadly occurrences. This man was very gifted, and the musical world lost a very talented musician when he died. Rest in Peace Alexander, you are missed.
My Dad died of a heart attack when he was 44. My brother died of a heart attack two months ago at the age of 54. My brother was born with a severe heart deformation and shocked everyone by living about half a million times as long as originally predicted. When he was born the doctor said he would be dead in about an hour. So half a million hours later he passed away. So not always but my Dad's was a complete surprise. I didn't know he had a heart condition. He had his heart attack one day and two weeks later in the ICU he was gone.

@@stevekake3359I'm not an expert, but can give some answers. Left and right are independent. If more buttons go down, it can be either that two buttons are linked to allow playing the same note from different positions, or one button can be linked with multiple buttons to allow multiple notes with one button. There are many different types of accordeon, with different layouts that can be easier and more difficult to play, as well as specialized to be more suitable for specific types of music.
As a pianist I can appreciate that so much of his fingering is in an extraordinary muscle memory and physical reach needed. Once located on the keys, he never needs to see, he can literally "feel" the music... Incredible playing.

It's already a feat of mind over fingers and feet on an organ! This is awesome! To be played on a button accordion even more so. Loved every moment of this! The expression of dynamics was masterful!

A response to Jim Robin. This is one of the reasons why so many people are turned off classical musical and their out of touch and outdated supporters. Let other musicians play Bach ,Brahms and Chopin on their chosen instruments. This accordion player did a masterful performance on a demanding piece off music on a difficult instrument to master. There is nothing wrong in playing Bach on so called folk instruments. I would rather hear this piece played expertly on the accordion than being played in a mediocre way on the organ or piano.
Amazingly brilliant musicianship! As an accordionist myself, as a 12 year old kid I got as far as grade 3 (on a 120 bass Horna) and I am in total awe watching this. I so appreciate the bellows control this guy has, not to mention the massive array of buttons that he is total master of! 😅 Just brilliant...
That's the marvelous conjunction of the geniality of a composer, the excellency of a musical instrument and the superb talent of a musician. A heavenly performance, to say the least! 👏👏👏👏👏
How was that even possible????? It takes enough effort with two hands and feet and even then I don't have to provide the wind, when playing!! Speechless with admiration!!
i didn't think the complex motion of the organ would translate so well to a free reed instrument, but the accordion has reminded me of its complexity with this guy. superb work!! RIP.
I ❤ his playing of this piece. He’s opened my eyes to the potential of the accordion. I’m blown away by this tbh. I gave me tingles down my spine and through my whole body. He’s a true musician, what a star ⭐️
This is one of my favorite Bach compositions!!!!! As a former accordion (piano accordion) player, I am in awe at how he used the bass side of the instrument!!!! In my younger days, I played some classical music to get a better feel for 40s, 50s and 60s jazz/swing music: harmony & composition. In my musical group, we catered to the "Greatest Generation" and my favorite, eastern style polka music!!!!! Being Polish, this was rather easy for me. As for my jazz, I was a fan of the Pete Jolly school of accordion playing. I only wish there were Bach charts in the late 50s and into the 60s that were arranged for the accordion. Even back then, I loved the Master's music. But this, is absolutely amazing!!!!!
Oh wow wow wow, you have to watch this several time or fully appreciate his brilliant skill level, watch his hands carefully fingers doing totally different parts of the fugue, so sad to have lost him. God bless .
That looks like the most complex musical instrument ever contrived and I'm blown away by Sevastian's mastery of it. Well done. Though his eyes cannot see what his hands are doing, he turns his head to focus his brain upon the hand that is performing the most complex work.
As a child, this piece was instrumental in making me a devotee to classical music for all time. What a stellar performance from such an able musician. I still weep when hearing it. Thank You!
Isn't it just amazing! Someone, somewhere, sometime ago, invented an instrument that eventually developed into what we see here, and that so many want to play, but only a handful have learnt to the skill of this guy. Blows me away this, it really does!

Heard him play this live several years ago. I play the piano accordion in a very beginner fashion, and dragged my poor wife to this accordion concert. He opened with Toccata and Fugue in D minor. When the first chord was struck, my wife sat up and was enthralled for the rest of the concert. She said, "I never knew the accordion could sound so good!"
Practice, man, practice.

I had no idea that this piece could be performed on an accordian with such skill. Absolutely wonderful!
A special accordion with buttons on both sides!...
Bruh… lol
Yes, o! Yes.
Gerald Durrell wrote in his books, that when they lived on Corfu, his brother, Lawrence Durrell, had visitors all the time. One of them brought accordion, and performed Bach on it.
@@lennartswenson2690 Not so special. this is popular in Russia and Germany too. It is called "Russian Garmonic". When Russians advanced in Germany they came across a factory for this instrument. guess what happened next...
It is great. I also hear this on a cello, fantastic
Never care for accordion music....but this is not polka, that is Bach and when you can play Bach on an accordion, you earn my respect. Congratulations to this young man.
Not something seen on Lawrence Welk.
Can we all just appreciate just how phenomenal this is? This young man is totally in the zone, playing by the heart and from the soul. This piece is difficult enough on an organ but on an accordion….the skill required to key both sides as well as squeeze in such a precise way to bring all those sounds out…% pure art!!! ❤
He does justice to one of the greatest pieces of music ever written
My mind is really having trouble accepting that this piece is being played on an accordion. All I can visualize is a pipe organ. This is just stupendous!!!
The total musicianship is awe inspiring. 10s across the board for technical mastery, feeling, dynamics and phrasing. RIP
I hear things in this rendition that i never heard when played on the organ. Masterful. Almost flawless, seemingly effortless.
Almost?
@@Twobarpsi0:35
@Twobarpsi is there any level above almost flawless? Is 100% flawless even possible? I guess there could be "virtually flawless", which means there are flaws but so few that we will ignore them.
Beautifully played and you would believe Bach wrote it for the Accordion.
I never heard anyone play the Accordion like Alexander.
Sad that I read he passed away. Your music will live forever.

Beyond wonderful! No dumb "Polkas" for THIS guy!
WOW! I never even thought about playing Tocatta on an accordion, and I'm absolutely blown away by this performance!
There's a good reason for not thinking of it, it would be bloody difficult, especially on a button accordion.
Alexander, your music will live forever. I am so sorry to hear you left this world during a tour of Mexico in February 2018. The accordion world mourns. I just wish the general public would finally recognise the wonderful abilities of the truly amazing classical accordion. Paul

As a professional musician, this was NOT what I expected.
I am FLABBERGASTED listening to this young man! His technique, his dynamics, his "interpretation" of this piece is above reproach. Someone his age--on an accordion, no less!!
If he has, in fact, passed--He's not just with God, he's with Bach!! Unbelievable. 😢
He was older than he looked. 42

I studied devotedly as a young accordionist. It's an amazing and completely underrated instrument. This brought tears to my 80 year old eyes. Thank you for bringing this amazing performance to life again ❤
Can you explain how the instrument works, what are his left and right hand doing, and when he pushes one button more buttons go down.
@@thorbjrnhellehaven5766 Thanks for the response.
As a pianist I can appreciate that so much of his fingering is in an extraordinary muscle memory and physical reach needed. Once located on the keys, he never needs to see, he can literally "feel" the music... Incredible playing.
I am an accordionist who is in my last year at a music school. We are forbidden to look at the keyboard.
Fascinating. Pianists are allowed to do so, but it should never be essential or routine, just the odd reference check.@@Hiddelle
De acuerdo 😮😮😮
Probably the best accordion playing I've ever heard. You'd think it was organ if you closed your eyes.
I am just flabbergasted that anyone could play this so well and seemingly effortlessly. I'd never heard of him, but CBC Radio Two just played him on Shift to announce that this fellow died suddenly last week at 41 years! Just, wow. What a genius player.
What a shame. 😢
OMG... that's sad...
Died. Suddenly... Sigh.... Nothing to see here
This was the most fantastic rendition of this beloved piece of music ever. WOW, as a former music major I can say this with fervor.
Found this without looking. Flabbergasted. One of the greatest compositions of all time, fantastic interpretation on an instrument considered a poor relation. Stunning.
This young mans prowess with this instrument is mesmerizing! It’s one of my most favorite organ pieces. To see it played on an accordion totally makes me smile and gives me goose bumps at the same time! Outstanding performance is such an understatement! Bravo Bravo Bravo!!!!!
The accordion is such a bizarre instrument and yet it sounded like this was played on a full church organ. This was very impressive! Well done!
Only 2 hands, 10 fingers for so many keys he can't even see ! That was absolutely amazing.
I didn’t even know you could get sound like this out of an accordion. Incredible performance!

This is absolutely my favorite all-time Classical piece. I've heard it played on spinets, synthesizers, Pianos, and pipe organs. This is the first time I have ever heard it played on an accordion. It was not what I expected honestly. I was expecting it to sound similar to a polka, but no, It had the clarity of a pipe organ. I am truly amazed at this man's talent and skill.
My dad repaired organs so I heard them a lot. This is the best performance on the accordion I have ever heard. Brought back good memories. Thank you!
I would bet, it's humanly impossible to preform such complicated movements with our fingers; each hand independent of the other! I watch this and I still don't believe it.

Sometimes YT surprises me. This is one of them...the dexterity of the musician in this video is amazing! Hours of practice went into the preparation of this performance. It's already a feat of mind over fingers and feet on an organ! This is awesome! To be played on a button accordion even more so. Loved every moment of this! The expression of dynamics was masterful!

Magnificent performance, RIP Alexandre knowing your music lives on.
Oh man, he passed?
Once started I wasn't able to stop listening until the end. Amazing performance.
Accordion to music lovers, this is the most well played Bach Toccata and Fugue in D minor ever!
Nice word play!
What's almost more impressive than the exceptional coordination required to play this, is the ability to remember the entire piece. Truly amazing.
I think I just saw a person worthy of the name Musician. Also I never saw an accordion like that before, so to the designer(s) and maker(s), you built a whole pipe organ into a fire bellows, and this bloke learned to play it. You all must have minds like spiral staircases. I don't even have words for how stunned this video left me. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

His technique is genius and he plays with passion 👏.
Extraordinary performance!! I gather from the comments Alexander passed away. I didn’t know him but I’m saddened knowing that such a God given talent was short lived. Bravo!
This is some of the most impressive accordion playing I've ever seen... Sometimes youtube shows me a video I simply needed to see....
Whos Jim Robin
probably an old comment
Not an accordion. It's a BAYAN.
And I have heard the prelude from the famous violin partita played on a banjo.
There isn't anything wrong with playing Bach on a folk instrument but we outdated folks could do without your insults.
Bravo
Amazingly brilliant musicianship! As an accordionist myself, as a 12 year old kid I got as far as grade 3 (on a 120 bass Horna) and I am in total awe watching this. I so appreciate the bellows control this guy has, not to mention the massive array of buttons that he is total master of! 😅 Just brilliant...
Could not have said it better!
I am seriously impressed! Who would have thought anyone could render such a fine performance of Bach on an accordion? Magnificent!
This is what you can achieve if you love what you are doing. A masterpiece played by a master.
Absolutely fabulous. Musical Complexity flawlessly executed by a true Maestro of his instrument. Bravo Alexander.
A previous commenter said this wonderful young man died at age 41. Sad!
i didn't think the complex motion of the organ would translate so well to a free reed instrument, but the accordion has reminded me of its complexity with this guy. superb work!! RIP.

Toccata and Fugue is permanent member of my top ten pieces of music. Okay an accordion cannot reach the deep bass notes of a pipe organ, but this is amazing, the phrasing, was superb and I’m no expert, this person is a master of their instrument, wow!
Phenomenal! The Great Bach would be proud! Well done, well done!
Yes he would
Époustouflant... Surnaturel.
