      Thanks brother!! I agree 100%. I feel that fishing can be extremely important in helping families and friends to bond. Unfortunately I see less and less kids on the water. All we can really do is set a good example and take kid’s fishing whenever possible. 👍👍thanks for your support brother!! 🙏🙏🙏👍

    Good info. Were you guys only able to snag bunker this spring? Bunker in decent numbers only showed up about two weeks ago in the bay. From watching your previous videos, I always try to find bunker in shallow water or at least fish the shallow side of a large school. When I was out last week, there were a lot of bluefish in the mix. Do you have any suggestions for gear and or techniques when there’s bluefish in the area?

    Another awesome video! I'm new to Striper fishing and am learning so much from your videos. I have a 18' G3CCJ which is great on the Delaware River. We have used it in saltwater on Great Bay out of Tuckerton and we watch marine forecasts for wave height. I have a Hummingbird Helix 5 fish finder and am slowly learning it.
    I'm hoping to make it to Raritan Bay and need a nice flat water day like in this video.
    Will you make two recommendations for me?
    A ramp.
    A toss net to catch bait.
    My brother calls Stripers "Phantom Fish" because we rarely catch one!
    Thanks,
    Mike G.

    Hey. I’m gonna order the striped stealth rod mh using the code. Do you have a rod you like best for spoons? Or I should say do you have a link for a rain shadow factory stock rod (not custom) that I can order through so you’ll get “credit”. Thanks for all the great videos!

      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  2 місяці тому

      Thanks brother! I appreciate your support! Unfortunately I don’t have a code for jigging rods, only the Striper Stealth. I don’t think Rainshadow makes pre-made rods. Just the blanks. If the custom rods aren’t in your budget you can get away with a M power Ugly Stik in 6’6”. They aren’t as sensitive as my signature jigging rods, but the have the softness you need for jigging.

    I'm going to Claytor Lake (in VA) in two weeks. I'll be in my pedal drive kayak. Do you think the stripers/hybrids will be in creeks still or have they moved out to main channels points, surface temps look to be around 70? Also, was type of techniques should I be going with??? ie live bait, cut bait, artificial, trolling umbrellas, etc??? Its going to be hard for me to keep live bait alive. Its also hard to throw a net from a kayak (without falling in). So as much as I'd love to go with live bait, I'm not sure if its going to be feasible. I'm afraid ill spend more time trying to acquire and keep alive live bait than actually fishing

      If I was in a kayak right now I would probably troll Alabama rigs on points way back in the creeks. Lines down to around 20-25 ft. Deep With 100-140 feet back. Set the rigs out while you’re in the deeper creek channels and then get your speed right (usually 2.5-3.0 mph. From the channel, pull up on points with your kayak going up to 15 ft of water, while speeding up to 3.5-4.0 mph (this makes the rigs rise) and as you come across the point and down, slow it down so rigs just lightly tick the bottom. Get a good lure retriever. Umbrella rig retrievers are best. If you’re not getting snagged once in a while you’re not going to catch much. Be aggressive. I would set out two lines. One set 120 ft behind the kayak and the other set 90ft. You can get a line counter on Amazon from a link in my video descriptions. Keep varying things like speed, water depth, lure depth, and bait colors. Chartreuse, greens, and Firetiger work best on Claytor lake. I only fished it a handful of times, but those colors are important. Let me know how you do and if I can help you further. 👍

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  2 місяці тому +1

      Right now the biggest fish are out front for sure. There are some massive schools around. They will hang around out there longer than they will in the bays and rivers. We have been seeing large groups coming back down the rivers over the last few weeks and heading out to the ocean to continue northbound.

    Hey Mike, you made it pretty clear but wanted to make sure I understood. Of course marking stripers is what we want but will you fish a spot that has bait in shallow water, next to deep water even if you don't mark stripers? Or will you ride around and try to find some striper and go back to that bait spot as a backup plan?

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  2 місяці тому +1

      I will definitely look for Stripers around the bait schools for a while before stopping, but when we fish the evenings many times you won’t mark Stripers at all. I’ll set up on those bait schools knowing that as the sun gets lower the Stripers will move up shallow to eat. It’s one of the few times I don’t worry about marking fish before setting lines out. In the Chesapeake I almost never mark the biggest fish. They cruise near the surface so much that I never see them on the screen. But I do see the baitfish!! 😁😁😁🙏🙏🙏. Thanks for your continued support brother!!

      Yea just got my first boost (26’ WA) and the northern Chesapeake has been brutal the past few weeks.
      Side question for a noobie: I have a lot of trouble going slow enough to troll-just in gear I’m getting gps speeds of 3-3.5 mph, up to 5.5-6 with the barest hint of throttle.
      Should I just be trolling in gear or are those speeds going to be ok?

    • @glennwhite5187
      @glennwhite5187 2 місяці тому

      @@noncompliance9990 I would think that 3mph would be ok!!! A real good indicator would be to hook a live bait and set it in the water next to the boat can it naturally swim at the speed your running??? A natural presentation will be key to success,just one striper fisherman's opinion,good luck!!! I use this method with live shad in land locked lakes and flowing rivers that I striper fish in!!
