I own the bear forest GT3. I was unhappy at first with sheath and knife. Went to a leather sheath, and actually went back to kydex. Customized knife a bit. And now it’s my everyday carry. Horizontal carry. Simple knives are the best.
I know this videos been out for awhile if you haven’t already done it those kydex sheaths are really easy to adjust. Just get close to a heat source like maybe a toaster or electric stove and warm it up and just squeeze on the top of sheaths and you can adjust the tension. Don’t touch it to a hot surface becouse you’ll melt it.
I hadnt realized that Adventurecraft knife was yours. I've been wanting one for a while. Really nice design. Reminds me of a classier and more practical answer to the TOPS Rapid Strike.
Great collection Jacob! I carry an ESEE Izula II with TKC scales as a neck knife. Of course I sharpened the spine (really wish the ESEE would do that), removed the coating and forced patina with vinegar.
The blue handles were a special edition, special run item, but the knife was made by tfk in bulgaria, and this particular model is sold through Eric Outer of Outer Limitless, the model is the 17.3, or dot 3
Looks like the kydex on that Lil’ Roughneck was cut wrong. Maybe was at the edge of the sheet when it was cut. It doesn’t look like what that sheath is supposed to look like at the retention point. Some of the kydex is missing. Have you contacted TOPS about it? I’ll bet Craig or Leo will send you another sheath that actually fits.
I have contacted them about poor fitting kydex before and was told to take a hike, so im not gonna hold my breathe. In fact, it was faulty kydex during a combat deployment that led to catastrophic failure. They were like "sucks, kydex warranty is 1 year" or something like that.
Lol. I have the Lil Roughneck. Super sharp. But yeah, the sheath is something silly. You can't even take off the belt clip because the screw is part of the retention system. I use it as a desk paperweight knife. But super sharp.
You can take off the clip of you remove the little sticky they use over the allen key hole. I took this one off but be warned, its a bigger pita to put back on.
Really like that knife from Bulgaria was it? Tops knives is a favorite of mine. I have two of their Operator 7 knives. The Acid Wash blade and the Black Out Edition. Both sheaths for these knives SUCK. The Acid blade has some crazy dangler arrangement and the Black Out has this weird spring steel clip thing. They are attached to the sheath by some bolt thing. I just want the typical, traditional belt loop. These two sheaths are abortions and I cannot use either knife until I make new Kydex Sheaths that work. Tops makes some great blades but they don't know squat about sheaths.
That is made by TFK- their work is BEAUTIFUL. That particular knife is a special edition "outer limitless" knife- i def suggest you subscribe to him and maybe reach out. I have had a lot of Tops knives, and i even deployed with one, but i have only had 1 decent sheath from them, and that was because there was basically nothing to it. I think some of the new ones that come with a leather sheath on a dangler are decent. But yeah, their sheath game is pretty weak. The best op7 sheaths that i know about are from black bear custom kydex.
tactical pterodactyl makes a really sweet knife. I do want one pretty badly. I do still think the most convenient way to carry a knife is strapped to my suspender strap at rib height right over the adjustment hardware, or around the neck with a good synthetic sheath. TOPS does have some thick edges on some of their knives, which makes sense on some designs, but is overkill on others, but they make some great quality stuff. Im hoping they start to offer some more reasonable EDC options that perform a bit better when doing light cutting. Good video man.
Have my eyes on Ohta OFB Knives as well, they make a beautiful little knife. Just not sure if the 2mm d2 blade is strong enough. But might be enough for small tasks and they are very light.
Wow, great look at a bunch of nice knives. The PBK Wunderlust is not a knife, it's a "pry chisel". I have 2 La Rocca "Jacob's EDCs". I wear them horizontal belt carry....works great. Thanks for showing us this nice collection of knives, Jacob!
Wow lots of awesome knives I have some good knives but all mine are production knives. I have a kabar fighting knife, kabar Becker bk9, esee izula, esee 6, Gerber lmf2, condor bushlore, and that prepared mind 101 knife from shrade the jess x i think. My folding knives got a sog mini auto, buck 110 auto, a couple buck folders, a Kershaw blur, and a zt 0609. Want to get into some more custom and get more high end production knives.
You know I have to agree with you on the LT Wright knives, I've always heard such praise of them and so I got ahold of a few myself and I was not impressed at all tbh they had super thick behind the edge grinds and very unevenly finished and these are things you only realize when you're forced to reprofile them....
I carry an Esee Izula with tkc scales, does everything. Another great blade is the Becker BK14, used one for years. Try the Tops BOB 3.5, it works well. Buy a heatgun and make your own kydex sheathes, it's not that hard.
Making a basic kydex sheath is easy. Making a good kydex sheath is hard. Making an excellent and beautiful kydex sheath is an art. I have done some decent kydex, but since i value my time if i really like a knife it goes out for some premium dex
@@Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors I would like a custom kydex sheath, but I am a poor man and must content myself with my own work. If I make something that functions well I am happy. Beauty is an aesthetic I cannot afford. Have you tried a varustelka knife? I do like their 80crv2 steel.
@@timbryan9701 makes sense. I have, i actually did a video about it recently. I think they have a lot of potential but their qc and US customer support/ warranty is lacking.
I make my "kydex on the cheap" sheaths for my carving knives and whittlers out of milk jug and bank line wrap. 😁 I use a butane torch lighter to soften and form them. Could you warm the loose ones up and give them a little pinch?
I might be able to, but you also run the risk of jacking them up, and I no longer have my press. This crappy dex isn't worth saving though anyways- and a knife this thiccccc and heavy, but short, really needs some good kydex because it is so heavy.
@@moosehand8721 "whether potential or kinetic" You are trying to hard to sound like you know what you are talking about. Good kydex does not EVER hold by friction- it holds by its shape with no friction, then opens to release the blade, again, without holding by friction. You can wave a heat gun over the kydex sheath and mash on it a little as it cools and it will tighten up more for restored knife grip retention.
Thats usually a pretty poor way to get retention- as the retention will likely be purely friction retention as opposed to a proper kydex hold.
It's formed grip, it's all friction. Whether kinetic or potential.
