@@-what I'm late to the party, but this definitely help me out a bunch. Had to watch it a few times because of how fast his work flow is though lol. What's the new method/process? I would imagine someone has probably made a stand alone plugin for this???
HOLY SHIT That speed is Supernatural!!! It's like his brain is in direct control of Ableton. Actually, he probably doesn't even need to use Operator or Simpler, that was all just for our benefit. Bill probably just thinks entire tracks into existence, but since we're bound by human limitations he shows us how to do things step by step with the tools that we can understand.
Thank goodness UA-cam has the speed function so I can slow this video down to 0.5 so I can catch up to Mr. Bill's lightning ninja speed. Thank you Mr. Bill! Your videos are awesome!
Dude, your videos are borderline psychedelic, I can just feel my brain being forcibly expanded during every single one of them. As soon as I get my shit sorted out, I'm signing up to your top subscription.
You can recreate this effect quite easily just using anything that can trigger midi, such as an arpeggiator, and then automating the rate. Linearly decreasing or increasing a linear trigger with make it exponential.
nothing like this after 4 years in uni studying music technology. i remember this from wayy back. funny, saw a comment on a new imanu track and it was "such new sound" , needs a fkn history lesson hahahaha best teacher / influencer :D big love
If anyone wants to hear more Exponential Rhythms check out "Second Woman" the project by Turk Dietrich of Belong and Joshua Eustis of Telefon Tel Aviv. Exponential Rhythms are used extensively throughout the albums.
Yep! You can, just turn sync off, and have it set to rate, then apply it to any MIDI device pretty much, and you can do the same thing. However, you might have to edit audio if it's in a sampler and attach a bit of silence to the end of it (like I did) to give you more leeway with the longer intervals of silence at the ends of the sequences.
Hmm interesting, didn't read your reply two years ago. I also believe you can extract out midi from the arp with the current live version! :D This is a simple, but so underrated technique I think, gonna use it next project.
Finally I know what it is called. Been trying to find tutorials on "that glitchy thing that is over the psydub tracks I like, that go wrrrrrrrrrr around my head." It must be Exponential Rhythms, but used over things instead of as breaks.
Great great great stuff mate I've been a fan of this sound for ages, didn't find the proper way to craft it in Ableton as I was use to do in Logic...well done for the test of the tutorial as well High level production tips
This is great ! Do you go through the process every-time (why?) or do you keep a huge arsenal of previously prepared exponential rhythms ? Thanks much for sharing.
would there be a way to make this kind of thing in FL studio? ive found a few videos in fl studio doing this but i dont think itll sound the same with the stretching n so on
is this the effect used on the remix of Risk by Deftones? The first note on guitar seems to have a similar effect, but it seems to sound sustained at the same time. How did you achieve this? Thanks Mr Bill. Loving your tutorials!
Hey Mr Bill! Aaaaawesome stuff u make!! u have any idea how to transfer this technique to cubase? the time stretching there doesent creat such great sounding glitchy effects and rythms...and i havent found a good soulution for this :(
Mr. Bill is like the quickest Ableton user ever!
fucking bo$$ mode!
so funny how this is far less impressive nowadays
@@bluboiblumovilestrange1621 yeah everyones had so much time on it by now

It seem like mr bill learnt ableton since he was a child. I wish i could know that much of live
Fn know right

ITs worth it!! he gives you full finished projects to reverse engineer and watch him make full songs start to finish is a whole other world
incredible, still in 2019
dude you are such a Beast. thank you billion times for giving this to us for free!
I had watched the Pointblank version of this technique like 5 years ago but I totally missed this one...aaaargh!guted!
honestly I'm really fuckin angry I'm only finding this out now, too late in 2017, after admiring this kind of sound design for years
It's 2021 for me hahahaaaaa :(

Dude, I just want to say thank you because this changed my whole workflow and upgraded me as a producer.

Triple awesome ...
Just found you from your masterclass, you're amazing man, so much stuff I've wanted to know but couldn't find anywhere online, thanks!

holy fuck, if only i read your comment earlier. It is waaay faster with the arpeggiator and more precise as well.
Is there any way for you to explain the way you use the arpeggiator for exponentials, and dose it have to be done in Ableton live?
Automate the "rate" and set the syncing button on "free". The midi data can directly be used as a groove.
I've been trying to crack this effect for so long, and you nail it in 10.16 minutes. Thank you, for another step up in my production technique
Mr bill take note; you are awesome.
This man is teeeaching me us things y'all currently one of my favorite people
Mr Bill you are a fucking champion!
You used this technique in Electrocado a lot.. I really love that wooden ship noise.. just blows my mind.
best producer on youtube by a mile
Are you a starcraft 2 or FPS player ? The way yoou click makes me think that
Mr Bill you dropped it here I'm gonna use this Fosho... thnx

With the speed at which you operate, it's a wonder you haven't yet released over nine thousand albums.
Seriously, its crazy how fast he can work
Cuz he prefer take time to make a really good song.
Nice one chief. I'm going to try a similar thing in Reason, Cheers.
love your tutorials man
Using the MIDI tool "Note Repeat" You can do the same thing by fudging around with the delay time & resampling the MIDI signal.
simply awesome! this is art! amazing!
Shatter is still my favorite
wow this tutorial is awesome probably your best one. THNX!
This is incredible thank you ❤️
holy fuck i had been looking for this since i started producing, thank you bill
awesome tricks man thanks!!!!
Nice, more tutorials ;)
the resampling tip was fuckin insane hahah
Thanks mate!
Just looks like Live was made for you. Or you made for Live? However, just exciting to watch all these nifty hints. Thanks!
great tutorial .. thanx a lot!!
Brilliant!
oOOOOH! So ths is how Flume made Spring etc. 🙏

Shatter is still my fav mr bill tune, I think
what the actual fuck my dude. This is crazy!
crazy knowledge
i prefer the second way with the envelope on the length of the loop on the simpler
godly tutorial
Nice!
thank you so much
good tip!

thank you!
yer a wizrd, Mr. Bill!
Goof stuff! Would love more glitchy tutorials. I suppose you don't know how/if this is applicable in cubase?
2021 gang
Learned how to modulate clip envelopes other than the pre provided in the drop down menu. Thank you
Nice ! But wouldn't this be achieved more easily and flexibly with dblue's Stretch and a couple of envelopes ?
Nice ideas :)
I wish I could do this in FL
uTorrent is free!

Jesus goddammit thx
maybe logirhythms?
Mr Brill!
Do you think one could use Abelton Live 11 Bouncy Notes plugin to generate an exponential groove?
anybody knows breaktweaker? by the way Mr Bill is incredible musician/producer.
I am a believer.
Billiever
Nice
value!
How did you get that resampling channel to record from?
wouldn't this be a logarithmic rhythm? :p same idea of a curve i guess
great technique
Surely it depends how you label the axis.
its pretty much cool, pretty much;]]
Sounds like eight frozen modules
🥀🥀🥀🥀
Every other video I speed up. This I slow down lol...
you didn't put the link
have any vst plugin for make this work maybe some sampler or something different?
Why ?
damn, when i try to stretch the kick it just doesn't make anything like this
+Hide and Tweak Try a different kick or drum sound entirely and it will work
Anyone know the best way to do this in FL Studio? I know there is Fruity Granualizer but it looks like he's got more options in Ableton here.
You can use the claw machine on the piano roll, or use an appergiator and automate the speed.
arpegiator ???
finallyyyyyy
Excelent tutorial, but...why so fast? we can´t learn anything like this...
Agreed. Watching this hyperdrive workflow is just frustrating and discouraging.
um what
My god, that is just too fast.
