I am looking for a Notion alternative with the option to own my data for quite a while now and it seems that my journey has finally come to an end. Anytype looks really awesome and seems to be exactly the tool I am looking for. So a big thank you to the developers and the community behind the project who make all of this possible! You are doing a great job and I really appreciate all the effort you put into contributing to a private and secure digital world where our data belongs to us alone.
Speed is critical, it's the only reason why i don't use Notion. If this is as fast as it looks in the video, then it's everything i need and more! and the fact that it's open source and extensible makes it even better! can't wait. Great job!
I use Notion for everything at the moment and not sure why I would jump ship but I'm willing to give Anytype a go for sure. Offline access is a major win!
Notion is ALWAYS facing competition! 😂 Frankly I'm hoping AnyType eventually knocks Coda out the ring which is my current favorite due to its formulas and extensive selection of plugins.
I wonder how large files would sync on mobile, considering it's P2P. I'd be interested in installing this on a storage VPS, and have all my files encrypted there as an off-shore backup.
anyone will be able to use anytype for free if they use their own resources. if they want to be part of anytype digital cooperative and get resources of the network they will pay a small monthly fee or will own part of the cooperative, for that they will get distributed storage, content delivery, computing resources, records in decentralized ledger, a human readable name to be easily found on the network and an ability to vote for important decisions. All collected funds will be distributed among anytype contributors in proportions members vote for.
@@sharipovazhanna Wow! That's the future of the internet. Cooperative and private. Already want to be part of the cooperative and pay as much as I can! You guys deserve to worshipped. This is huge. Can you build a new facebook after you're done replacing notion? :)

So was the share function removed in the beta? Or was it moved? How do I share a page with someone else? Of course I could give my recovery phrase to someone else and they could have full access to everything. But I want to share just 1 or a few pages with someone and just give them read or maybe read/write on just those pages.

It looks very promising, but where are the user data actually stored? If they are stored locally on the user's machine, is it possible to put them inside a personal cloud storage like NextCloud or Dropbox, so the user data can be accessed from multiple devices?
the data is stored on users machines and also on an optional cafe-node so it can be accessed from multiple devices even when some of them are offline. unlike cloud this cafe node cannot read what is stored - only the user has the encryption keys and all logic is executed on device (on cloud services the logic is executed in the cloud for that the server uses the encryption keys to decrypt the data and perform the logic)

We are inviting small number of people now and the current wait is 2-3 months. After May we will start inviting more people and around September we will release the open beta
This is such an amazing product ... Looking awesome! question though - how can this be free? who pays the team to innovate/ maintain? who pays the storage fee etc?
It's free when you use your own disk space. Some users might want to ensure their data is also backed up, so is stored not only on their disk space - we will offer a place on anytype nodes to them, so they can store their data there (anytype will not have access to the encryption keys)
I know it's hard to estimate timeframes. But can you give a rough estimate of the release of a) the beta and especially b) the first version? Also, with your intention of going open-source, how is the development funded?
1) I have over 200 content pages written in Notion. Can this get imported into your app, right away? 2) Can I add a password to some of the contents, and be sure any hacker wouldn't steal the information it by copying the anytype backup file into his pc? 3) Can I use the same mardown that Notion have?
I would be hesitant about moving stuff over to this platform, it’s been 2 years and it still isn’t officially out. if you want it, you have to download a dev kit to try it out. Not trying to be funny but why has it taken soo long? I would wait. Which is a shame because it looks like a simpler version of motion which is what I was wanting.
@@WarrenKirkpatrick I just wanted a way to save my data both on cloud and on local disk, for I have a way to have a backup, just in case. Notion seems unreliable, if one day they vanish, your data is gone with them.
