I literally saw Buddy Guy in concert earlier this month, here in Toronto at the newly restored Massey Hall. What a treasure he was! At 87 years old, his incredible stories of Muddy Waters and Son House have gotten a little more rambly, he walks through the crowd a little more slowly as he plays. But he has lost NONE of his guitar playing, and his voice is as strong as it ever was. I recall seeing how Chuck Berry played at the end of his life: a confused, clumsy shadow of what he was in his prime. It was kind of sad to see him tour right to the end. There was NONE of that here. Buddy Guy is as incredible today as he was onstage with Clapton here 35 years ago (now *I* feel old too). As far as I'm concerned he can keep on playing till he's 1,000 years old.
On a side note, I feel this is how we were always meant to hear the song "Money (It's What I Want)." Thanks to John Lennon & Co. for bringing it to the attention of the world, but this is the first time I feel like I heard what he heard, which made him bring it forward for the Beatles to record, rather than just hearing the results of that.

I'm lucky enough to have this concert recorded on cassettes as broadcast by Radio One. Since transferred to my 'jukebox' machine. An incredible blues night,
I was lucky enough to be at one of the 1990 Clapton blues nights at the Albert Hall. A friend and I stood up in the gods at the Albert Hall. Was truly a fantastic concert. So glad to hear a recording of it after all these years. Deserves 27 million views, not 27k.

A truly wonderful concert which recorded on BBC Radio 1 In concert. Claptons' solo on Howling for Baby(song starts @58.33) is just absolutely awesome. It's mystifying that this show was not released as one of his finest live performances - no surprise with the musicians in his band that night. Some of these songs are available as videos but only just a few. Thanks for uploading .
Thank you very, very much. That year I attended the first concerts in a communist-free country. A wonderful time, we listened to a lot of blues, rythm'n'blues then (of course, Clapton obligatory for many years), but even then I couldn't dream of a concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Years later, when I heard E.C. live, tears came to my eyes on their own.
I'll have to add attending a concert at the Royal Albert Hall to my bucket list... Sigh! Not enough time in this world to do everything I want.. Thank God for You Tube!!
I had recorded the gig from the Radio lent someone at work the tapes and never got them back. I would think about them from time to time as Blues is my first love in music terms for 40 years. Thanks so much for this.
Thanks philhonley Enjoyed them all too (and have some still on cassette), and the TV shows like Channel 4's Rock Steady showing us actual video footage haha. Good ole days.
Not sure what point you are trying to put forward. I recorded this when it was broadcast live on BBC Radio 1. I obviously used third party software in order to digitilise.
@@philhonley Didn't mean to criticise, Phil, just that the sound seems a bit harsh to my ageing ears, so let's all blame the BBC techs! (Hell, no!) Great work, fella. I've been living abroad for 40 years and I can't tell you how much I treasure these gems being resurrected from BBC vaults. Thankxx, Phil!
Phil, I'd like to withdraw that comment about the sound. I reckon my computer speaker system must have been set up wrongly. All right now! And thankxx again.
I took the photo and it's from the following night (4th Feb). Shortly afterwards, security had their hand on my shoulder and told me "no photos", so I put down my camera... just before Buddy, Robert Cray and EC all stepped up to the same mike to sing a line or two. Years later, they credited me for use of this 'not allowed' photo in one of EC's official Albert Hall programmes.
Impressive performance but crappy audio recording... there are so much concerts 20 years earlier (listen to Muddy Waters) that have been recorded so much better... what a pity!
I feel the criticism is a little unfair as this was a quality radio broadcast recording. My guess is you have not listened to it in it's entirety. Why would you compare this recording with that of Muddy Waters? Two different artists and my guess is the Muddy Waters was possibly recorded on the sound desk.
