  • On our last night on Siesta Key, we were hoping to go down the beach for one last sunset. But the weather had other plans, and we got to witness this intense lightning storm, instead.

Love seeing the thunderstorms at the beach. Looks like y'all had a great trip. Did you do a review of the Siesta Key Beach Resort & Suites? Thanks for sharing.

Yes, we had a great trip. And this was a pretty intense storm.
As for the review of where we stayed, we actually planned to, and just didn't end up getting around to it. There are a lot of variables at this place, and we have a different experience each and every time, with them messing something up almost every trip, where they end up having to knock off some money for their mistake. This trip was no exception.
I honestly hate to give this place a glowing review, or a bad one. My thoughts are mixed, but probably because I have lots of history there. My family started going there when I was 3 (since 1972), and Shawnasi and I have been going for most of our married life, every year. I have never stayed anywhere else on Siesta Key, since my first trip in 1972. We brought our boys here when they were still at home. So, this place holds a lot of memories for me, and us.
It has had different owners and undergone many changes. The guy who bought it about 4 years ago, has made numerous changes, some good and some not. In addition, he is all about the money, to be honest. The price has shot through the roof, and as of this year, they now charge you to park your vehicle, on top of everything else. I was not very pleased to learn that upon check in. I asked them what else I was supposed to do with it. They've never done that before, and they don't even have adequate parking for their guests, and now they charge you for it?
Anyway, to be honest, each and every year we talk about doing something else the next year, but we always keep going back. We love the beach there, and the area. We also fell in love with AMI, which is just north of there, so we are currently talking about maybe doing our yearly Florida trip there.
If you stayed at Siesta Beach Resort for the first time, you'd probably think it was a nice place. I would, too. But since I knew how it was before, and preferred it that way, I'm disappointed in many of the changes.
That being said, we do get a "discount" of sorts, because we come each year...But not much. Also, they did wave the parking fee for us this year, because of their blunder on our reservation. They just did that on their own.
We actually did really like our room this trip (one of the best ones we've had), but we've had some rooms that were not good, and the design would only make you scratch your head....no place to hang your clothes, and a bathroom that you can barely turn around in. This year's room was great.
The room we used to get every year before the new owner took over, we no longer get because they have doubled the price, and put a 7 night minimum stay on it. We don't stay there 7 nights, because we split our trip up on the east and west coasts of Florida. So, we no longer get our traditional room. He did say he would lower it to 5 nights "just for us", but again, the price has pretty much doubled.
My review of that place, would be very complicated, because it has some good advantages...Near the best part of Siesta Key for shopping and dining. But on the other hand, it also has made changes that I have a hard time accepting, with ridiculous rules and regulations (no chair outside of your door), which they had ALWAYS had before...handy for sitting in and relaxing, or drying wet bathing suits. And there is a price increase or a new fee, every single year.
So yes, its a nice place. And although there are far more expensive places on the Key, I still think their fees are above what they should be. The place we stayed on Anna Maria Island, was beautiful, and we are looking at that for next trip.

@@NCMemoryMakers we stayed at AMI last year in a cottage which was right across the street from the beach and we loved it. We are thinking of going down next year to the gulf coast for a couple of weeks. Looking for a place with reasonable rates.

@@vafunseekers Yes, I remember when you all started posting your videos, and I actually found on Google where you all had stayed, because I was curious how far it was from where we had stayed. You were a few miles north of us.
We LOVED where we stayed on AMI, but if you don't mind my asking, was it pretty reasonable where you all stayed?
In fairness to the place on Siesta, Eric (the manager) did tell us that if we could come in August or September instead of over the week of the 4th, he could give us a much better rate and "pull some strings" on the minimum night requirement for our traditional room. I realize holiday weeks are always more expensive, but I just feel they are getting ridiculously high. We're looking at doing that, but its more difficult, since where I work is shut down for the entire week of the 4th.
So, I'm not advising against them. I think you all would like the place, and the location is perfect...across the street from the beach, and walking distance to numerous shops and restaurants. And again, if I were staying there for the first time, I'd probably really like it. But I'm sort of nostalgic on things, and I miss the way it was.

@@NCMemoryMakers Cindy found the cottage on VRBO and then searched and found this cottage from a local rental company that was much cheaper than VRBO. VRBO had extra fees that the rental company did not. Also it was booked last minute because Carly playing softball and was in the state all stars and we didn’t know if they would be playing in the World Series or not. So I don’t know if it was a better price because of them trying to fill it because it was still available the next week. But we stayed a week and Cindy said it was cheaper than the hotels she looked at.
