Except your not safe inside a house. Scientists have found what they are calling super lightening... its implied that if one were to hit your house you would probably be screwed regardless of any protection the house normally offers.
i was in palm coast, fl last october and 7 out of 7 nights you could see lightning in the sky. its so flat there that you can see a storm even when its 50 plus miles away. this is THE PLACE to live if you like storms. im hoping that me and some of my family move down here soon. it sucks here in ma.
+Knightguard1 It's been pretty quiet around here lately. Not much but sunshine. Are you in Ireland? I'm going there in October for the 7th time! I love Ireland. I guess it's in my blood. A friend and I actually run a trip to there almost every year. The economy sunk a few lately, but this year is looking wonderful.
I'm near Fort Myers, about three hours south of Orlando. In the summer I go from my air conditioned house to my air conditioned car to go to the air conditioned store, etc. I do all the outside work early in the morning then go in the pool. Summer here is more than do-able. I love it.
I can't wait for summer. I can already feel the number of storms coming from the heat. I live in Miami and the storms we get are just so beautiful, they make me smile.
I'm in SW Florida, Lehigh Acres. I adjusted to the heat quickly when I moved here seven years ago. I've never seen a water moccasin but I don't live that close to the water, other than a canal at the end of my street. Black racers are common. They're not hazardous and are helpful for controlling things that are. I love it here.
It's funny that I got two comments on the Florida thunderstorm today, the day I arrived in Austria with friends that I'm visiting for two weeks. I bought my house in FL from them and we hit it off so well they come back for vacation every year while I visit my children in CT and this time when they returned home I went with them. It's developed into a wonderful friendship and wait till you see the vids from Austria! Coming soon.
Great video! LIved in South Carolina years ago and loved that heavy, humid approach of a storm. The UK doesn't get as many big storms, miss the severe weather. You have a lovely friendly voice too, FL is on my list of places to visit one day :)
I miss this so much. I LOVE the sound of deep-rumbling thunder, and how ominous an oncoming storm looks. I now live in an area where we get like 1 thunderstorm (or none lol) a year.
I miss the wonders of Florida's amazing thunderstorms! scary but thrilling at the same time! We hardly get storms over here (UK) :( maybe the occasional clap of thunder! Brilliant video! :)
I love your commentary and your rain barrel is fantastic too. A big hi from County Durham in North East England. We occasionally get storms in the UK but not as many as Florida and other parts of the USA. That thunder was amazing :)
I love this type of weather, it's so interesting and exciting. Each day is something diffrrent, unlike where I live. I love thunderstorms and I wish I could live in a place like this.. sigh. You're lucky to live here, I wish I could live in Florida.
As you probably saw from my earlier post above, I lived in Central Florida, specifically in the city of Satellite Beach, from 1969 to 1971 when I was a little kid in elementary school. We were a military family and lived in the Patrick AFB south housing units which most of them are torn down and gone. Anyway, we had thunderstorms like this one almost every day in the summer. They were quite exciting indeed. But the only thing you have to worry about are hurricanes like the one that went through here back in September, Hurricane Matthew. We had the tail end of a hurricane came through where we lived sometime either in 1970 or 1971. It was so severe that we were without power for like eight hours or so. Being I was so young, I was terrified! I cried myself to sleep on my mother's lap and woke up when the power was restored! Other than than, I think it is a lovely place to live. This is especially true for me since I am a huge NASA fan and we lived along Florida's "space coast." If luck has it my way, I am planning on moving back out there to retire and live there for the remaining days of my life. I am in Southern CA now, which is where I have lived since we left Florida in 1971 when we were transferred out here.
Lovely video and love the commentary. Certainly looks like Florida gets some decent storms. Here in the UK we rarely get to see something as good as this. I hope you get to finish the rain barrel soon!
Believe it or not the rain barrel looks pretty much as it did in this video. Someday I will finish it. Or at least get closer. Thank you for your comment.
well, good luck with the completion of it. I live in Canada (Ontario) where it obviously snows a lot every winter - I love using the breathtaking winter landscapes as part of my artwork! Keep up the good work!
Coming from a Californian who has never been to Florida... I'm surprised to see so many pine trees. I always think of palm trees when I think of Florida.
I love your videos of the storms. We dont get storms like that here in the UK, one day id love to go to Florida just to watch a storm. You should make some more vids of storms theyre fascinating
Nice video! And a nice natural area too.I love a good storm. My daughter is in Korea and she says they never have thunderstorms. She came home for a visit last December and she got her share of Southern US violent weather!
wow listen to that thunder!! when i arrived down there to visit on june 9th 2009 there wasn't much action. i used to love listening to the thunder at night.
We just had heavy rain and storms here in Indiana but noting bad like that one in your video. Some loud lightning but just a few bolts. Also when it ended the power went out and came back on 3 times. Then stayed out. I ii was waiting for a loud crash but there was none. Nipsco reported a power line conductor failure. And had power back in 1 hour. I love storms. Hopefully this year in northern Indiana is ripe with storms. Nature is so beautiful yet so destructive
Have you ever been here? Have you seen the videos from this year's storms in the midwest? Those poor people have been having a terrible time. I believe two tornados were classified E5s, the highest rating there is. One was two miles wide, unheard of. Good luck with your visit.
I love it down here in FL. I'm from CT. Most of the time the weather is wonderful. But yesterday we were having tornado warnings. That's something new for me. I've never had to deal with a tornado. I'd like to keep it that way. They say they're not as severe here as they are in the midwest. I don't want to find out either way.
No. This is in Lee County. Thank you for the nice comments. Wait till you see what's coming next. I just arrived in Austria today. It's my first trip here and I'm visiting the family I bought my house in Florida from. The mountains are absolutely stupendous. Pictures don't do them justice but I'm going to try anyway.
It's hard for me to believe you're only 8. I'm a 75 year old great-grandmother and I've never seen a tornado in person. I'm happy about that. The closest I ever want to come to one is on TV.
@RichieRouge206 Thank you for the nice comments. I also enjoy a good thunderstorm every now and then. It's a change from the wonderful weather we usually have. The first year I lived here, 2005, it rained every afternoon at about 3 o'clock all summer. We haven't been getting that regular rainfall in the ensuing years and have been living at the edge of drought conditions since. But I love it here.
I currently live in Oregon, so I don't have as much rain right now, let alone a thunderstorm. I never thought I'd miss the sound of thunder and the flash of lightning so much.
Hi Barbara,,!! beautifull video ,thanks for uploading it,,, one thing beside this thunder sounds is your voice ,,,you have such a nice and kind voice tone, that makes me feel so peacefuly cozy !!!!!,, lovelly thanks
Hi GuGem, I'm glad you enjoyed the vid. I lived in CT for most of my life but it's different in FL. It's sp flat you can see the storms coming from way off. I love it.
Yes, this is definitely Florida in the summertime quite a bit! I lived in Central Florida from 1969 to 1971, specifically in a city called Satellite Beach. We lived there because my late father was in the Air Force and was stationed at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station during that time. I was a kid in elementary school back then. We had thunderstorms like this almost on a daily basis during the summer. What are or city in Florida do you live in if I may ask?
I'm glad you liked it. I enjoy the storms down here in normally sunny Florida. I'm from Connecticut and I'm more than satisfied seeing the snow on TV rather than being stuck in the house or out shoveling, although I stopped shoveling years ago. I wish you the best in the weather you're having. I do like the beauty of the snow.
Thank you for the nice comments, especially about the rain barrel. I've been working on it off and on (mostly off) for several years. Someday soon I'll finish it. I've loved it here since the moment I arrived.
Yesterday I heard the loudest blast of thunder ever and I'm seventy-five years old. It shook the house. I thought it had been hit. Next thing, the fire department was across the street. A tree had been struck in my neighbor's back yard, split off a branch and set the branch on fire.
This was a pretty good one. We had another one yesterday evening but it didn't live up to the hype on the weather reports. At least, not around here. We had a lot of lightning and some wind but not much else. Either that or I slept through it.

Maybe Florida thunderstorms can be thought of as a tourist attraction for storm lovers who live in places that even in the height of thunderstorm season, only get them on days few and far between.
Hi, Neighbor! I'm on the other coast right across from you in Lehigh Acres. It sounds like you're still getting the regular rain we had here a few years ago. We could use some now. Today looks promising.
Philip Holman Same I grew up in Pensacola Florida and moved to Seattle in 2012 and I decided I can’t do it anymore I miss my Florida weather and the vibes. So, I worked my butt off and am buying my first home in Orlando. I know nobody there but I’ll figure it all out.... anything to be back in Florida and to see these beautiful storms! We don’t get any exciting weather here in Seattle!
Now that's really creepy! When we have high winds predicted I bring everything that isn't attached to the ground inside the garage and the house. I even take things off the walls. I went through many hurricanes when I lived in Connecticut and I know what that's like.

@peelboy1000 Sorry it took me so long to reply. The pool is about 3 1/2 feet deep at the shallow end and 7 1/2 at the deep end. it's 15' x 30'. I love it.
I just replied that the watch hadn't gotten to where I live, Lehigh Acres, when I heard my phone beep. It's here now. I'm praying for everyone in the watch/warning areas. God bless.
@TheMyNerfmaster Actually I enjoy them. It's very interesting here in Florida. You can see a black sky in one direction and turn around and see the brightly shining sun in the other direction. The storms usually don't last very long.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The storms here are much different than the ones I grew up with in CT. Yesterday my son thought he drove through a tornado! He could feel the car start to lift. Luckily, the storms here usually don't have the strength of the ones in the midwest. Of course, if I was in one here, I don't think I'd know the difference.
I don't chase the storms. I just wait for them to come to me. So far, that's worked for me. I haven't been here for any major hurricanes and I don't think I'd be filming them if I was.
There's nothing better than seeing a dark thunderstorm approach your house, it's such a strange attraction! Everyone else hates storms, not me!
I 100% agree
same i thrive on it, love love love thunderstorms
Same
There was nothing more fun then a storm approaching and the lights going out 😂
@@Zayday1993 its the thrill
Have you ever been here? Even with the thunderstorms, torrential rain and heat over 100 degrees the last few weeks I still love it here.
Good For You 😆
Theres something about thunderstorms and being safe inside a house that makes me feel really warm and cozy
It's very interesting here in Florida when these storms pass by.

I haven't had a really bad one lately. Maybe the climate is changing. I hope not.

I live in the Tampa Bay area and love our storms. I miss summer sooo much!! :( Which explains why I'm surfing stormy videos
After the rain we got this summer, I was ready for some dry weather. I didn't expect it to change so quickly, though.

Same here Steve! This is God's machine at work and we can admire its beauty and thank him for the rain we receive!
Thanks for sharing, you have a beautiful home. Not too keen on that thunderstorm though, Scary!
This is fun for me to watch. Warmth, thunderstorms, fresh fruit/veggies, sun\fun.lol. Thanks.

I got a friend who live in Florida and yes thunderstorms or hurricane are nasty
Did you paint cats on your rain barrel? I love it!!
I don't chase the storms. I just wait for them to come to me. So far, that's worked for me. I haven't been here for any major hurricanes and I don't think I'd be filming them if I was.
