Seeing that old moving map brings back so many memories of flying to Canada with Air Transat Airbus and TriStars back in the early 2000s. Time flies...
That plane is C-GSAT! I own a small piece of that plane. After it was retired and before being fully scrapped, some of its metal was turned into cool luggage tags and I have one.
I always enjoyed flying on the A310 and got to sample flights on it with Pan Am, Lufthansa and Kenya Airways. I actually traveled on the one in the video when she was 5Y-KQM with Kenya Airways, late 2000 from Amsterdam to Nairobi. Economy Class was 2-4-2 back then.
Beautiful Air Transat A310 Review! The Transat A310-300 was my first ever Trip Report (2019) and I enjoyed my flight of it last year and I'm glad to have experienced it before her retirement! Old but always a fun experience, the A310 is super iconic. Great job getting this great array of footage for the report :)
Kudos to the flight crew on that plane...the plane practically kissed the runway on that landing...I don't know if I've ever seen such a smooth landing on a commercial aircraft like that before.
They used to fly these on the YYZ to LGW route. We fly it every year, and I remember for a long time it was a 50/50 chance whether we'd be on the A330 or the A310. This year though, they seem to have switched that route over completely to the A321neoLR, as that's what we had going both ways this time
Another top notch trip report. Glad Transat did not swap the plane on you. Sad to see these aircraft leaving the fleet on bad terms with the current situation.
I really miss the sound of those engines. The 310 was one of my favorite planes to work on. All of us at Transat miss them to this day. They were great buckets of rivets
Really nicely done trip report, with good editing, camera work and commentary. I really like the A310. I flew on the KLM and Air France operated ones when I was a kid. Thank you for sharing, and I hope you enjoyed your visit to my home airport of Manchester 🙂
Looking at this from 2023... you really *did* get on that flight just in time even if they hadn't already chosen to retire it early!! Crazy how fast everything changed!
Oh thank you for the great video. It brought back great memories of my work at Pearson Intl. back the late 80's and early 90's. I remember when Max Ward of Wardair bought several new A 310- 300s. They were gorgeous. Bright orange striped seats, and roomy, too. Very bright cabin. Beautiful wide business class seats forward, too. The y were the last non fly by wire aircraft I believe, for Airbus, anyway and because of that I felt they were a REAL airliner....you fly the plane..it doesn't fly you. I think the pilots loved them, too. So sad to see these birds get old and face retirement. I think they are one of the finest airliners ever built. I remember the first time I boarded a Wardair A 310. My first thought as I said, WOW , was, does Airbus KNOW how to build a great aircraft or what ? I loved their A 300, too. It used to fly Toronto to Tampa daily. I think it was lease from South African Airways. They did return it to them eventually. Oh, and Max Ward saw to it that each brand new A 310 was named after a famous Canadian aviator, and many were bush pilots
So happy you got to fly on it before she was gone! I recently was able to fly on a KC-10 across the Atlantic and that widebody experience reminded me of that!
Does anyone know if dimming the lights for night time take offs and landings is a requirement in Canada or just a safety suggestion. Over the past couple of years I have been surprised at how often the cabin lights are left on. Some professional response would be interesting. Oh, and of course, fantastic trip report.
In India, it is a civil aviation authority mandate that lights be dimmed right after taxi commences before takeoff and stay off till autopilot is switched on. During landing, the lights have to be dimmed before descent commences and have to stay off till the aircraft reaches the stand.
It’s a worldwide requirement so that everybody’s eyes are adjusted to the darkness in case there’s an incident on takeoff that requires an evacuation using only the emergency lighting.
It’s a requirement for all over the world, in case of an emergency evacuation your eyes adapt better to the dark ambient if the cabin light is turned off.
A310 is one of the sexiest airplanes ever. Already the engine sound....mmmmmh! I remember flying some holiday trips in a Hapag-Lloyd A310 from Hamburg, Germany.
I flew on one of the first A310s when introduced by Swissair in 1983; then flew one with Canadian on the LGW-YYC-LGW route just after they took over Wardair.
Great Video Alex. You really picked the best time to fly on one, considering they have just been retired. I'm glad i persuaded you to go for option plus, hahaha. Thanks for the shoutout as well. Thats a bit annoying with the food but at least it was eatable. The United new livery in the background at the end was a nice shot too.
It seems you had a better experience than I did on that plane. I sat on the exact opposite side you did, going YYZ-BFS. I’m also a tall guy, I hated sitting next to the window. Just the fuselage shape was awful for me. I couldn’t get comfortable at all. Back when I flew it, there was a divider in front of my seat, so I could not stretch my legs under the seat in front like you did. Same thing happened with my customized meal. They botched that, I brought it up, they kept sluffing me off saying they’d go “sort it out”. They never did. In fact, the flight crew was rude the whole way, no matter how calmly I engaged them. About a third of the way into the flight, they just disappeared completely. Didn’t see them again until morning, they passed out a light breakfast and water. Actually pretty good, considering how horrible dinner was. After that flight, I refused to fly Transat ever again. I flew KLM about two years later and had a great set of flights with them. Luckily, about 4 years later, I got to fly on a Polaris and watch hornets refuel from it. That brought some respect back to the A310 for me.
9 across is extremely tight in the main cabin, but that's typical for a charter/ low cost airline configuration. The A310 was a very interesting aircraft. You're lucky you were able to experience flying on one before they disappeared from passenger service.
What a unique and exciting experience to be able to fly on the A310 nowadays It's definitely a blast to the past! :D Loved the retro seatbelt signs and overhead bins :)
Great trip report! I flew this exact aircraft on one of the last A310 flights from YYZ-GLA on the 21st March. The crew were excellent and it certainly was a privilege to be able to fly on one of the last flights.
Nice video with buzz-saw at take-off. About a dozen years ago, I flew across the pond on a Czech Airlines A310, a really pleasant flight. IIRC it had a 2-4-2 configuration. I also flew about 6 years ago on an Air Transat A330 with a 2-4-2 configuration, which is so much better than the 3-3-3 one so often is squeezed into on A330's and B787's these days.
The last time I flew in one lust have been around 1998-99, the F-GEMO from Air France, on a CDG-DKR-CDG FLIGHT. It had a nice feature at the back, you had to go through a little corridor on each side of the rear galley to access the toilets, just long enough to have two windows, but it was nevertheless nice to pass by, in spite of the smell!

Airbus work horse help Emirates big time to expand this particular a310 model.
Thank you for a very nicely narrated video. This is one of my fav aircraft. I flew with this, as a child, from Helsinki, Finland to Athens, Greece. I also did a flight wit the predecessor, A300 from Helsinki to Frankfurt. As far as I, remember, both of the flights were very smooth and comfy. 👍😊
I flew that wonderful airplane between Glasgow and Toronto. Excellent seats. Even did automatic landing in a snowstorm. I wished that they flew more between Glasgow and Montreal.
A great plane for its time its testament that they lasted so long but with economy and fuel efficiency at the forefront of aviation now I hear they use the A321neo for transatlantic services now
Alex Praglowski Aviation I think you should do YVR-EWR. A good trans-continental kind of flight, even if it’s international. Usually operated on a 787.

I'm surprised these are still in use. I flew on a Wardair A310 from Mirabel to Gatwick in 1988. I remember being shocked that we were going to cross the Atlantic on a twin. First time for me. Also shocked that Claus von Bulow was on the same flight.
Air Transat, yes I flew from Toronto to Amsterdam in may 2019 and they forgot to serve me my meal at 23:00 hours after take off, i gave them a bad review, but they never replied and wrote to them again, that is and will be the last time I will be flying with them. Nice video A. P
Great video and some real nostalgia, actually I think when these planes were with Emirates they had seatback screens, I remember watching Space Jam on a flight from Dubai to Melbourne (via Singapore) back in '97.
Excellent video! It's a route I've flown many times before with Air Transat too, though I usually went on an a320. I did it via Globespan (Flyglobespan) once and the aircraft lost all power just after landing, had to get off using stairs and got crowded into a little bus. I remember not too long ago when you would land at Manchester and would see Concord parked past the end of the runway, now they've built a shelter around it and charge money to go see it :P
Great video, Alex. I appreciate the clarity of your narration, the audio quality, and of course the video footage. I also appreciate the background information on the aircraft in the airline. The A310 is one of my favorites for its design and dimensions. Congratulations on picking the perfect time to go on this flight. Slipped in just in time!
I have flown on airtransats A330-200, and it was the one that had more seats... and the club class looked way nicer then on the one you took, and it actually looked like a real business class
Great video, thoroughly enjoyed your narration and the A310 footage. 👍
Omg sam
OMG! bRO I LOVE YOUR VIDS. CAN you make a second boeing dreamlifter vid in detail plz
sry for the caps at the start
HI SAM
Cool
the A310-300 is so interesting to look at, it just looks so short.
Avia Pat It’s low key like the 767-200ER
Baby ThiccBus
Short and thicc
It’s the perfect size aircraft to replace the 757, just do it fuel efficiently. An updated version of this, is what Boeing needs to do for their 797.
its pretty chubby
Fantastic review, Alex! Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Ah, flying. I remember. Those were the good old times
Andreas Daester ...
Can't wait for FS2020
Yep
Andreas Daester haha
This is why Air Transat is one of my favorite airlines
I also flew on the A310 to Toronto from Manchester, Glad I did now its gone. Great video too!
Ah, I remember flying on one of these back in 2009. It’s sad that these aircraft are almost completely gone.
Seeing that old moving map brings back so many memories of flying to Canada with Air Transat Airbus and TriStars back in the early 2000s. Time flies...
very well done, gonna miss this bird! Especially at YVR
eye trapper Sad to see them go, but good to see A220s, A321LRs, etc.
@@sebastianfloyd372 I wish that were the case but Air Transat is replacing them with newer aircraft (retiring the 310)
That plane is C-GSAT! I own a small piece of that plane. After it was retired and before being fully scrapped, some of its metal was turned into cool luggage tags and I have one.
That flight deck/cockpit is immaculate. Well maintained and taken care of. Quite enjoyed many flights with Transat back to home, Canada.

I wish Air Transat would offer a series of retirement excursion flights like what a KLM did for the MD-11
Interesting, so nice to see a review on the old-school A310!
Really enjoying your videos..
Keep up the great work!
The Takeoff Sounds AWESOME!!! Great Report As Usual Alex!!
Turbines don't sound the same anymore, that's for sure.
I miss the black streaks they used to leave behind after lifting off
I wish Airbus would’ve stuck with the look of the a310. Awesome footage once again Alex.

Windows doesn’t stay open: exist
People who do five minutes craft: improvise, adapt, overcome
it's so weird seeing an airbus with a yoke, so familiar yet so strange.
Kudos to the flight crew on that plane...the plane practically kissed the runway on that landing...I don't know if I've ever seen such a smooth landing on a commercial aircraft like that before.
Full ack. Though the whole video is exciting, the touchdown looked almost unreal. Perfect!
Looks like a great flight. 👍 Thanks for taking us along!
Glad I got to fly on one of these things in 2017
I flew in the late 1990's on Pan Am's JFK to Helsinki in Business Class on this aircraft. It was fantastic. Great video
They used to fly these on the YYZ to LGW route. We fly it every year, and I remember for a long time it was a 50/50 chance whether we'd be on the A330 or the A310. Michael Rogers yeah I took that plane on Air Transat July 2019 and it’s sad to see them go
I really miss the sound of those engines. The 310 was one of my favorite planes to work on. All of us at Transat miss them to this day. They were great buckets of rivets
I flew on Air Transats A310 from YYC to Cancun and back in Jan 2016. It was one of my best flights I’ve ever had. Sure miss those rare birds!

C-GSAT is now registered to a SunWest Challenger 605. I get to see it regularly at my work
Excellent Trip Report. Lucky to catch the A310 in the last days of operations!
I don’t know what’s more rare, the A310 still in service or Manchester Airport without rain!

back in 2001 i used to fly air transat from toronto to montreal. it was short and fun. not too many people on board and loads of room to stretch out

Flew with Air Transat in 2016 Manchester to Toronto return, it was a wonderful flight both ways and the priority package well worth it.
Glad to see an Ex Kenya Airways A310 still flying.C-GVAT was also an ex Kenya airways but was sadly scrapped.
That was a really buttery landing :D
I love the sound of those CF-6's.
Pretty sweet! The only time I flew on an A310 it was with FedEx as a jumpseater.

Did you know it goes against safety guidelines to not dim the lights? Especially on night flights
The last time I flew in one lust have been around 1998-99, the F-GEMO from Air France, on a CDG-DKR-CDG FLIGHT.
