And to think the only Disney film fully recognised for great music by the Oscars during their own ‘golden age’ was Pinocchio…which was criticised at the time for having a weaker score than Snow White 😅

And again…I can’t BELIEVE, if all the Disney animated films during Walt’s lifetime, Pinocchio was the only one to win both original score and original song. For saying Walt was renowned for syncing with music with movement and using music as a narrative device, he only had ONE animated film be acknowledged in both fields?! No Lady and the Tramp, no Sleeping Beauty…NO BAMBI?!?! still blows my mind

Sometimes awards can just be weird like that, there's a rich history of movies that should have won more awards stopped by all timers, while lesser movies clean up the following year

I’m also waiting for Disney to put something out that challenges the viewer like with their first 5 films.
There’s been exceptions down the years - Hunchback of Notre Dame, Fox and the Hound spring to mind - but nothing Disney has put out for a long time has made me get excited just purely because I know what I’m in for. And when I watched fantasia recently (an extreme example of this point, of course), I felt I was watching something that a) no one else would make b) I had no idea what would happen next and c) that Disney wouldn’t dare make today because it’s not ‘the brand image’

First off I gotta say that I personally don’t understand the mindset on animated shorts and films only being for kids for a long time. While yes a lot of us and others mostly saw them as kids, they have a lot of stuff in them that’s honestly pretty serious or dark that in some cases couldn’t be done today(granted we didn’t realize that until we got older)! I just feel like it’s a dumb thought process.
Now this video was super informative and fun! Especially since I don’t really know too much about film awards or other things related to it. So thanks for talking about it with me and other people today Joe!!!
By the way, the intro of this video made me laugh out loud since while what you said was true, it was hard to not find it funny😂👍🏻
Looking forward to seeing you cover Aladdin next time or after something else.

I think just the stigma of both Saturday morning cartoons being something a large percentage of people grew up with and the fact that family movies get misconstrued as and lumped into children's movies lead to many people just making the leap of animation = kids. Maybe one day that will change, but it's definitely a mountain to move

When are you going to upload a Disney Guy review for Aladdin?
Can you please sing Friend like me in the intro just like you did to be our guest for Beauty and the Beast
to tribute the Late great Robin Willems?

That's the next edited video, so about 2 weeks! And I certainly plan on doing a special intro for that as well, not sure what song yet, but plans are in the works!

I myself am not a big fan of the Oscars. The Academy clearly sees animation as a "lesser" art form. There have been many articles and interviews that revealed that many of the voters do not bother watching all the movies in a category, especially with animation, in which they'll have their kids vote for them. There are even rumors that the Best Animated Feature Oscar was simply created to avoid another Beauty and The Beast scenario. Not to mention the fact there have been animated films like "Into the Spiderverse," which has become one of the highest rated films on IMDB and Letterboxd, clearly leaving an impact on Pop Culture, and have reshaped the entire animation industry, yet received no nominations outside of Best Animation Feature (plus when the recipients were rudely cut off doesn't help), it especially stings when many of the Best Picture nominees that year were far inferior films.
What I think needs to happen is that they need to make more categories for animation altogether, not only because it makes things more equal between animation and live action, but it'll give more well deserved recognition to the artists behind the scenes that don't get a chance with current categories.
Here are some I think would be warranted.
-Best Production design on an animated film (With Sub Categories for 2D animation, 3D animation, and Stop Motion).
-Best Director on an animated feature.
-Best Special Effects on an Animated Feature.
    -Best Vocal Performance
    -Best Character Animation
    Just to name a few.

Yeah, like I said towards the end, there's a lot of give and take with things like the Best Animated Picture category.A majority of those awards you mentioned are featured at the Annies, which is great, but certainly not as mainstream as the Oscars, though my fear if those categories were included at the Oscars would be that it becomes a Grammys situation where a majority of them are given out preshow, which sort of defeats the purpose of using them to shine a spotlight on animated films. Getting animation to be recognized along the more traditional films is an ongoing struggle, but that's part of why we're here and why I do what I do!

    • @isaiahwilliams2642
      @isaiahwilliams2642 Рік тому

That's a good point. Given how they've previously done just that with Editing, Score, and the Sound categories, that would not surprise me. But I have hope that when more young members take over then we'll see more obscure and unique award categories get the respect they deserve.

hey guys. Serious question - can anyone think of a Disney animated film that maybe should have been nominated for best original or adapted screenplay? maybe animated films can’t be directed for their acting or the directors but they can be highlighted for their stories…

Interesting how people’s interpretations of animation is always qualified as kid movies . I think if people had realized animation has offerings for people of all ages sooner . I’d hoped the best animated category would have been created sooner .

Some movies I think especially in Walt’s life and in the Renaissance really should have won more awards like that

In my opinion, Treasure Planet should've won for Best Animated Film instead of Spirited Away, The Wind Rises should've won for Best Animated Film instead of Frozen, and Let It Go should've lost.
