This is a step by step instruction on how to varnish acrylic painting for beginners tutorial to learn how to use liquid varnish and spray varnish on small and large paintings. - Навчання та стиль
Very nicely explained... Nice to hear the voice and casual talk... Few other people show overacting while explaining. But this explanation I loved so much....
Thank you very much for your lovely comment 😊.. It takes a lot of time to voice over the videos. For me, it makes sense to make such videos as I can explain so many things for beginners. I am grateful that I could share my experience. Thank you so much! ❤️

Hi.. can varnish be applied on canvas surface where there is no acrylic painting done? The painting is done only on the center of the canvas. The canvas bought is primed but I have not applied additional gesso.
Yes you can apply
Very nicely explained
Thank you so much 🙂❤️
awesome video explanation
Glad you liked it! Thank you! 👍❤️
very very good information really great madam............thank you very much
You are most welcome! ❤️
Super nice very helpful
Glad it helped..thank you! ❤️
Amazing video!!
Actually I didn't found ur video back then so I sprayed the canvas in my room the fumes are very strong, what should I do?
Oohh...keep all the windows/doors open and if you have a fan or any such similar device use it - let the fumes go out...keep your canvas outside of the room in a safe ventilated place to dry
Thank you for the detailed steps.
Can we use the same varnish for Acrylic painting on wood as well?
Yes you can...you could also use a polycrylic clear varnish, thats specifically for wood....if you have a very large slab of wood it will be hard to use the spray varnish, another point to take care is the type of wood as it tends to expand or contract. You can always do a patch test!
@@MadhulaCreations thank you for the detailed response. I appreciate it.
Ma'am I wanted to varnish over a 'printed matte photo'... Will there be any problem using acrylic varnish?
and i was thinking of using the spray varnish (the one u used in the video)
This varnish doesn't specifically mention anything about printed pieces and bleeding completely depends on the type of print - so do a patch test before you spray on the photo
thank u mam , it helped
Most welcome 😊 and glad to hear that!! ❤️
Hello ma'am, this was very helpful, thank you. I am thinking of making a canvas painting using lipsticks. My goal is to seal the canvas and avoid smudges. Which type of varnish would you recommend for this?
Its very tricky to do as the lipstick itself doesnt dry completely and will smudge..try with a spray varnish on a small test canvas first and then you can do the actual work👍
Which varnish is preferable spray or liquid, for good protection from scratches to an acrylic painting??
I usually prefer liquid varnish for the ease of use and as it gives no harsh smell - but both liquid and spray have given good protection from scratches if you apply it properly.
Very nice 👌
Can I apply Liquin after I varnish with spray ? On acrylic painting
Yes it can be applied...the only point to note is, when you work with multiple layers of different varnishes, we will not exactly know how it will work together unless it is tested...but obviously, we can use different types according to the sheen you need for your painting...so do a test patch and then do it on your original
Does it prevent the white colours in painting from yellowing too ? Or they get yellow anyway with time .
Oil based varnish do yellow over time, acrylic varnish are intended to prevent yellowing and there is no substantial evidence on if it will yellow on a longer run. The varnished paintings that I have has not yellowed over time. Its nice and clean. Just use a quality acrylic varnish to avoid any problems.
I have never used varnish in canvas before and I use permanent marker in it for outlines. Should I use varnish liquid or spray? I'm afraid it might affect the permanent marker outline
Most varnish have alcohol in them and this will affect your permanent marker strokes as well. And sometimes it may bleed too. So you might not be able to varnish directly over it. If its on other surfaces, you can use a mod podge accordingly to seal it. If you want to be sure, do experiment with varnishes on any old canvas painting!
Nice 😀😀
Thank you so much! ❤️
Mam glass bottles me favicryl acrylic color se mandala art kiye h ....to konsa sealer or barnish use kare? Mere pas wood polish h water-resistant ka to chalega ky? Pls reply
Glass is a different base to handle - you will not be able to use all types of sealer..watch this video here - ua-cam.com/video/hPDEqA7L60U/v-deo.html (look for Chapter 3 - How to protect acrylic painting on glass?)
What spray we should use for fabric paints? After painting which spray will make that paint stay longer.
Fabric on paper?
I have painted by acrylic on mdf wood, plz suggest which varnish is best
It depends on what is the texture and base you have used for painting. If its primed properly, any of these can be used. If its heavily textured, spray will be easier.
Thank you for the wonderful video. A query please... Does the spray varnish leave a bad odour after applying...?
It has a harsh odour during the application and just stays for a couple of minutes. However, there will be no odour on the painting after the varnish dries.
@@MadhulaCreations Thank you so much...!!
Can we use camlin varnish for oil colour for acrylic paintings? I'm not able to get any liquid varnish for acrylic paintings. Which one is better - sprey or liquid varnish?
Use only varnish that is mentioned for acrylics. The oil colour varnish might yellow slightly as it ages (which will not be visible immediately). So it might affect the underlying acrylic colours. You do get acrylic varnishes from different companies online - check out in amazon.
Spray or liquid - completely depends on your choice - depending on the number of layers you apply, both will give similar effect if used correctly. Just remember, spray varnish has a strong odour - so you have to do outdoors or in a well ventilated area.
@@MadhulaCreations thank you for the reply and valuable guidance :)
Hi..it's very informative and detailed explanation..can you do a detailed video of sealing gold foil?can you suggest any sealer which is available in India..I have used arfina spray varnish..but not satisfied with the result..once I damaged my entire painting with spray varnish
Oh that's bad...you will not be able to use these varnishes on all surface...you have to use varnish specific for the type of mediums and materials used...
Thank you for your response..I can't find gold leaf sealer other than monalisa which is very expensive..can you suggest any other sealer available in India?
For potrait should I use matte, satin or gloss?
It's such a personal choice! I personally love the look of satin varnish..and sometimes I feel matt makes the image too flat...if you have not tried any of them, I would strongly recommend you to try them on your old artworks, and pick the one you like!
Mam awesome video 🫶🫶new subscriber 🙌💕 mam do we need to use spray varnish for slightly textured paintings..?
Thank you! Yes spray varnish will suit...
Thankyou mam🙏😍
Most welcome 😊
Can I mix gloss and matt varnish to reduce the glossiness a bit?
Yes you can!
Just wanted to ask....ma'am which variant do u prefer the most?? Gloss, satin or matt?? And ma'am why??
Is gloss better will it make my painting more shinny??
Yes, gloss will be shinny. The glossiness between each of the company varnishes differ. Also, there is a difference between the glossiness of spray and liquid varnish. Compared to all the variants, I love the sheen of the satin varnish!
@@MadhulaCreations thnk u so much
How many days should we wait after painting acrylics for using varnish spray ??
That completely depends on the thickness of the paint applied. The more thicker it is, the more time it takes to dry. For thin layers atleast allow 2-3 weeks before varnishing. I always varnish after a month.
maam do i clean the varnish brush with plain water?
Better to clean with soap and water..watch the brush cleaning video...and do not use the brush for regular painting anymore...keep it aside for varnishing
can I use varnish on my terracota pots I have painted with acrylic?
Yes you can spray them with sealers - and you can choose from gloss or matt according to your need.
Can I apply this varnish on Lippan art (combination of fevicryl mouldit, acrylic colors, small mirrors on mdf sheet)?
You have to varnish your lippan work just before pasting your mirrors. The few mirrors that is a part of it (when laying down the mouldit) will have to be covered properly.
@@MadhulaCreations Thanks for your reply, really helpful 👍
I've just sprayed my acrylic painting with satin Varnish and it's put a while film over it. Does anyone know where that has happened?
May be the paint wasnt dried enough at the time of varnish? Is the painting fine now?
Brass ( pital ) pe colour karne ke baad kon sa varnish use karte hai
This varnish is specifically fro Acrylics..for brass please use a varnish that can be applied on metal.
How long should I wait before I use varnish after painting?
Depends on the thickness of the paint and the climatic conditions - if its layered in thin coats, atleast leave a week before varnishing, even if its touch dry on the surface....and if its layered in thicker layers or in impasto style - atleast leave 2 weeks before varnishing.
Mam I use acrylic paint on phone covers. Can I use varnish spray on covers?
Depends on the base of the case..for most cases you can...if its on a very clear case, there might be cloudiness of the spray.
The link for the brushes given in the description, can they be used for varnishing?
For varnishing I use a bigger flat brush, I have missed them in the description! Thank you for asking....have added them in the description now! 🙂❤️
Thank you 😊👍
Can i use spray one on watercolor painting
No not on watercolour painting!
Hi how's you? Can you please tell me which Varnish will give best results ? Spray or Liquid?
I use both..for paintings without much textures I prefer liquid, and for textured paintings I prefer to use spray. If you just understood how to use them, they both are great options and you can get away with either of them.
Mam I take digital prints on canvass cloth. After that i covered in wooden frame. So what type of varnish i use for presurve this painting
Do you mean you are stretching the canvas on wood?
@@MadhulaCreations yes
@@MEETGOLAKIYA You can do on prints - it will be easy to do before you stretch the print on the canvas. Another point to note is the nature of print itself - the inks used for printing - a giclee or something else, so do test it so that you don't end up having a colour bleed on your prints.
@@MadhulaCreations thanks
Kya ham Pital ki Murti per isko use kar sakte hain
I haven't used it on brass.. These are acrylic varnishes specifically for paintings...they do work on glass though!
Can i use in 300GSM paper also?
Have you gessoed it before painting to seal the surface? Watch ua-cam.com/video/dSi0sUrbDdw/v-deo.html (Part1) and ua-cam.com/video/Dff3c22ZGZY/v-deo.html (Part 2)
You can use varnish on paper too, spray varnish will be easier. Also sealing before painting is very essential.
Can I use little birdie matt decor varnish on my pital god idols plz do tell
Actually, these acrylic varnishes that I have shown in the video are designed for paintings, I have not used them on idols...the little birdie matt decor varnish is for wood....apart from these there are specific varnishes for metal, you can check them out on Amazon.
Can I use it on clay works also?
Depends on the clay..if polymer clay they will stay sticky..so test on a similar surface before sealing the final work fully
Hi it's very urgent
I made a mistake applying the spray varnish and now my acrylic painting is messed up how do I fix it
So sorry to hear that...what happened to the painting? Has it become cloudy? Let me know..we will try to sort it out..better if you could send a picture...
Can spray varnish be used on silver foil
Imitation silver leaf or foil? Depending on what type of foil you have used, you might need to use specific varnish or medium with archival quality.
Can you spray varnish big paintings?
What do you suggest for a large painting of 42 inches?
Would you suggest spraying or liquid varnish?
For very large paintings, you can go with liquid varnish as its easy to control with brush and layering becomes easy as the area will be large.
can we use spray varnish in marker to
In your mixed media work where you have used acrylic and marker? and what type of marker?
mam after using varnish spray my bottles become sticky.. how to get it non sticky
Which spray are you using? I used the spray on bottle and it wasnt sticky...check this video - ua-cam.com/video/hPDEqA7L60U/v-deo.html
Is it a new one you are using?
How soon can we apply varnish on an acrylic painting? Like I read that need to wait for 6 months on oil color paintings . Thank you.
Depending on the thickness of the paint layer - you might have to decide between 2 days to 2 weeks, you need not wait for 6 months like oils.
@@MadhulaCreations thank you!
Shall we use first layer a picture varnish and second layer as varnish gloss spary
Picture varnish itself is available in different variants…are you asking if we can use a liquid and spray together in one painting?
@@MadhulaCreations yes
@@ashokkumar-fm3qe yes you can mix and match varnishes to get the exact look you want..but it increases the complexity and we will not know how the components work unless you experiment with the different types together to get it right..that’s why I suggest to use one type of varnish and thus reducing the difficulty in removing it too..so use different types of spray or different types of brush varnish to get the sheen you need
@@MadhulaCreations thank you🙏
How to clean brush after using liquid varnish?
You can use any liquid wash to clean the brush. Wash it immediately after the varnish session and always have a separate brush for varnish.
Can i use this liquid varnish over acrylic painting on ceramic mug
Is the mug glazed or you are planning to bake? Yes you can use liquid varnish, choose a good quality varnish...
@@MadhulaCreations acrylic paint stays on ceramic mug ?
Can we glass frame after varnishing?
You can, but not compulsory/necessary...varnish will give you enough protection. Also you need to look-out for the reflections on the glass plus the glossiness of the varnish itself. Spacers/mat should definitely be considered if you are framing.
Mistakenly I bought a gel varnish.. which is very thick... please guide how to use that one
Use it in a very little amount on the work...alternatively you can also mix it up with other liquid varnishes - however do patch test before you do it on your actual work if you are mixing
I use spray varnish.... It always washes away my BLACK colour.. It fades a little after that.. I also maintain a good distance... What to do????
I would love to know which black colour you are using? Also, check if your varnish is a new one...
Yes
Acrylic paint
Ma'am which varnish can be used for sealing gold leaf.
It depends on the leaf and the surface you use. If it is a imitation leaf, some of the varnish may tarnish it. Also you can pre-seal it or post-seal the leaf. Pre-sealing is really tricky if not used properly, also differs for oils and acrylics. My suggestion would be use a high quality varnish, and test it out first before using it on the final piece directly.
@@MadhulaCreations thank you so much for the response 🥰
can we use it on paper?? pls reply
Are you asking about acrylic painting done on paper? What type of paper? Generally, spary varnish is easy to use on good quality papers and usually varnish on paper is non removable
So i bought a spray varnish and even i have the liquid varnish from camlin when i was varnishing my paintings with the liquid one my painting turned blue so i thought it was something in the brush and yesterday i bought the spray one and used it and it still made my paintung blue and the tint is not going away my friend has the same spray varnish and its not happening to her idk what to do because on google its saying that it goes away after 24 hours when it dries properly but even thats not happening
Is it an acrylic painting and was the painting completely dry? Did you use the spray varnish on the same or different painting? The liquid varnish from camlin is for oils - not sure if you used that. Also it could be pulling off colours from your painting itself - and during varnishing it can happen due to various reasons. If its colours from your work itself, it will be hard to remove it off. If you still have problems with varnishing - try retouching / removable varnish.
Madhula Creations it was completely dried and yes it was an acrylic painting from a week ago i used the spray one from arfina (the one u showed )
@@anushkab7516 Which acrylic colours did you use? You can dm me the painting pics in Insta or FB...will try to help!
Madhula Creations i used fevicryl i am not on Facebook
Do we need varnish for watercolor painting on paper!?
No we don't...you can frame them under glass to protect it.
Hi i faced a problem i finished an acrylic painting last night and today afternoon i sprayed the varnish on the painting what i noticed is my painting turned all dull cloudy after varnishing ... what could be the reason my painting had dried ....
There could be multiple reasons - Let me know what type of surface you painted on? What type of varnish did you use? Which acrylic paints did you use?
@@MadhulaCreations stretch canvas spray varnish and camel acrylic colours
I have the same issue..cloudy finish...I used acrylic on plastic bottle. And den used spray varnish ..what could be the reason
@@genecreed acrylic on plastic bottle will chip off easily. Did you prime it before painting? Also cloudy finish happens for a number of reasons - overuse of varnish, instead of a thin coat or not allowing it to dry naturally long enough or might be with the varnish itself (even caused by not shaking the bottle properly before varnishing). Sometimes the finish gets proper once it dries completely (water getting locked and unable to evaporate quickly).
@@MadhulaCreations thank u so much for ur reply ..I guess it's over spraying..Yes i use primer on plastic and concrete too before acrylic...
Can white be patches be removed from silver foil
How did it happen? What kind of patches are they?
Can we use the spray varnish on mdf board?
Is it for a finished painting? If it has been properly primed, yes you can - the finish will be little different depending on the substrate.
@@MadhulaCreations yes I applied a coat of primer on the mdf board and finished the painting with acrylic colors. To keep the colors intact can we spray the varnish?
Mam can we use Varnish on Canvas cloth / Canvas pad?
Yes, definitely you can varnish the canvases!
@@MadhulaCreations Thank you mam. Aso could you please share the link for buying washbrush that you have used to varnish the cat painting?
Is okay if we only do one layer for spray varnish?
Doing one layer will not suffice because the coverage will not be uniform and proper, so it will not provide the required protection for your painting - you need to do minimum of 2 or 3 coats - alternate between vertical and horizontal application of varnish.
@@MadhulaCreations ok ty mam
Where can I buy this from?
It's available in amazon. The links are given in the description box below the video.
Please make a video on mod podge I want to try it
You mean mod podge as varnish?
@@MadhulaCreations mod podge
What you meant by re-work?
If you would like to work on a part of the painting again...
Will it make the painting waterproof?
Yes it will..and depending on the chemicals in them they will vary on the waterproofing properties.
@@MadhulaCreations Thank you so much for helping ❤️ you do such a great work! Love your videos ❤️
@@malshaudanie574 thank you very much!!❤️😀
Can I use mod podge
I don’t recommend using mod podge - its thicker than regular varnish, it gets tackier when it dries and you will anyway need an acrylic sealant if it gets too sticky, and mod podge is more of a glue than a professional acrylic sealent - so cannot be used for professional acrylic paintings. If you want to properly seal your acrylic painting, go for an artist quality acrylic varnish.
@@MadhulaCreations thanks for your information
Hi which varnish is best for knife paintings. Both oil and acrylic. Pls reply🙏
Just ensure you check the label to see if it can be applied over oil / acrylic. If the painting is heavily textured, go for the spray varnish. If not, you can use either of them.
Yes ,they are heavily textured
Mam.arifana spray varnish is not giving glazing effect on my knife paintings (both oil and acrylics)so may I use wooden varnish on my knife paintings instead of spray varnish
@@prathyushanethala5133 I like the gloss of the Liquitex varnish...you can also use the liquid varnish, but brush slowly and ensure there is no clogging and everything is covered...wood varnish might not be a profitable solution in the long run..it is more rigid and might yellow later...if you are planning to go for a wood varnish check if it's water and UV resistant too..
Can acrylic paints used on porcelain ?
Yes you can...however they will peel off if you don't seal it properly!
@@MadhulaCreations can I use the spray varnish as in d video to seal it?
U have nice voice😍🥰
Thank you very much! 😊
Mam acrylic varnish can it be used on fabrics and shoes
Basically these are picture/painting varnishes (the label & instructions also mentions the same), so you need to actually choose varnishes that specifically mentions that it can be used on fabrics / leather to protect the work in the long run.
Why my painting became cloudy after using this spry varnish?? 😩☹️
Did you allow it to cure properly? Sometimes may be you have used too much of varnish, or water locked inside as the painting wasn't fully dried...
Never ever take spray varnish one whole bottle gets over for a canvas
Depends on the size of your canvas...but I never had the whole bottle run out for any of my canvas! Ensure that the lid of the varnish is closed properly, as it evopourates so quickly. Also do not overspray or press the nozzle too much when working with it.
