Yes you can...you could also use a polycrylic clear varnish, thats specifically for wood....if you have a very large slab of wood it will be hard to use the spray varnish, another point to take care is the type of wood as it tends to expand or contract. You can always do a patch test!
Hi.. can varnish be applied on canvas surface where there is no acrylic painting done? The painting is done only on the center of the canvas. The canvas bought is primed but I have not applied additional gesso.
Hello ma'am, this was very helpful, thank you. I am thinking of making a canvas painting using lipsticks. My goal is to seal the canvas and avoid smudges. Which type of varnish would you recommend for this?
Its very tricky to do as the lipstick itself doesnt dry completely and will smudge..try with a spray varnish on a small test canvas first and then you can do the actual work👍
Just wanted to ask....ma'am which variant do u prefer the most?? Gloss, satin or matt?? And ma'am why?? Is gloss better will it make my painting more shinny??
Yes, gloss will be shinny. The glossiness between each of the company varnishes differ. Also, there is a difference between the glossiness of spray and liquid varnish. Compared to all the variants, I love the sheen of the satin varnish!
I have never used varnish in canvas before and I use permanent marker in it for outlines. Should I use varnish liquid or spray? I'm afraid it might affect the permanent marker outline
Most varnish have alcohol in them and this will affect your permanent marker strokes as well. And sometimes it may bleed too. So you might not be able to varnish directly over it. If its on other surfaces, you can use a mod podge accordingly to seal it. If you want to be sure, do experiment with varnishes on any old canvas painting!
It has a harsh odour during the application and just stays for a couple of minutes. However, there will be no odour on the painting after the varnish dries.
@@MEETGOLAKIYA You can do on prints - it will be easy to do before you stretch the print on the canvas. Another point to note is the nature of print itself - the inks used for printing - a giclee or something else, so do test it so that you don't end up having a colour bleed on your prints.
I usually prefer liquid varnish for the ease of use and as it gives no harsh smell - but both liquid and spray have given good protection from scratches if you apply it properly.
Oohh...keep all the windows/doors open and if you have a fan or any such similar device use it - let the fumes go out...keep your canvas outside of the room in a safe ventilated place to dry
It depends on what is the texture and base you have used for painting. If its primed properly, any of these can be used. If its heavily textured, spray will be easier.
I use both..for paintings without much textures I prefer liquid, and for textured paintings I prefer to use spray. If you just understood how to use them, they both are great options and you can get away with either of them.
Yes it can be applied...the only point to note is, when you work with multiple layers of different varnishes, we will not exactly know how it will work together unless it is tested...but obviously, we can use different types according to the sheen you need for your painting...so do a test patch and then do it on your original
Ma'am I wanted to varnish over a 'printed matte photo'... Will there be any problem using acrylic varnish? and i was thinking of using the spray varnish (the one u used in the video)

Can we use camlin varnish for oil colour for acrylic paintings? I'm not able to get any liquid varnish for acrylic paintings. Which one is better - sprey or liquid varnish?
Use only varnish that is mentioned for acrylics. The oil colour varnish might yellow slightly as it ages (which will not be visible immediately). So it might affect the underlying acrylic colours. You do get acrylic varnishes from different companies online - check out in amazon. Spray or liquid - completely depends on your choice - depending on the number of layers you apply, both will give similar effect if used correctly. Just remember, spray varnish has a strong odour - so you have to do outdoors or in a well ventilated area.

Hi i faced a problem i finished an acrylic painting last night and today afternoon i sprayed the varnish on the painting what i noticed is my painting turned all dull cloudy after varnishing ... what could be the reason my painting had dried ....
@@genecreed acrylic on plastic bottle will chip off easily. Did you prime it before painting? Also cloudy finish happens for a number of reasons - overuse of varnish, instead of a thin coat or not allowing it to dry naturally long enough or might be with the varnish itself (even caused by not shaking the bottle properly before varnishing). Sometimes the finish gets proper once it dries completely (water getting locked and unable to evaporate quickly).
It depends on the leaf and the surface you use. If it is a imitation leaf, some of the varnish may tarnish it. Also you can pre-seal it or post-seal the leaf. Pre-sealing is really tricky if not used properly, also differs for oils and acrylics. My suggestion would be use a high quality varnish, and test it out first before using it on the final piece directly.
I don’t recommend using mod podge - its thicker than regular varnish, it gets tackier when it dries and you will anyway need an acrylic sealant if it gets too sticky, and mod podge is more of a glue than a professional acrylic sealent - so cannot be used for professional acrylic paintings. If you want to properly seal your acrylic painting, go for an artist quality acrylic varnish.
Have you gessoed it before painting to seal the surface? Watch ua-cam.com/video/dSi0sUrbDdw/v-deo.html (Part1) and ua-cam.com/video/Dff3c22ZGZY/v-deo.html (Part 2) You can use varnish on paper too, spray varnish will be easier. Also sealing before painting is very essential.

So i bought a spray varnish and even i have the liquid varnish from camlin when i was varnishing my paintings with the liquid one my painting turned blue so i thought it was something in the brush and yesterday i bought the spray one and used it and it still made my paintung blue and the tint is not going away my friend has the same spray varnish and its not happening to her idk what to do because on google its saying that it goes away after 24 hours when it dries properly but even thats not happening
Is it an acrylic painting and was the painting completely dry? Did you use the spray varnish on the same or different painting? The liquid varnish from camlin is for oils - not sure if you used that. Also it could be pulling off colours from your painting itself - and during varnishing it can happen due to various reasons. If its colours from your work itself, it will be hard to remove it off. If you still have problems with varnishing - try retouching / removable varnish.
Basically these are picture/painting varnishes (the label & instructions also mentions the same), so you need to actually choose varnishes that specifically mentions that it can be used on fabrics / leather to protect the work in the long run.
Depends on the size of your canvas...but I never had the whole bottle run out for any of my canvas! Ensure that the lid of the varnish is closed properly, as it evopourates so quickly. Also do not overspray or press the nozzle too much when working with it.
Better to clean with soap and water..watch the brush cleaning video...and do not use the brush for regular painting anymore...keep it aside for varnishing
You can, but not compulsory/necessary...varnish will give you enough protection. Also you need to look-out for the reflections on the glass plus the glossiness of the varnish itself. Spacers/mat should definitely be considered if you are framing.

Madhula Creations it was completely dried and yes it was an acrylic painting from a week ago i used the spray one from arfina (the one u showed )
@@anushkab7516 Which acrylic colours did you use? You can dm me the painting pics in Insta or FB...will try to help!
Madhula Creations i used fevicryl i am not on Facebook
Can you spray varnish big paintings?
What do you suggest for a large painting of 42 inches?
Would you suggest spraying or liquid varnish?
For very large paintings, you can go with liquid varnish as its easy to control with brush and layering becomes easy as the area will be large.
Mam acrylic varnish can it be used on fabrics and shoes
Basically these are picture/painting varnishes (the label & instructions also mentions the same), so you need to actually choose varnishes that specifically mentions that it can be used on fabrics / leather to protect the work in the long run.
Why my painting became cloudy after using this spry varnish?? 😩☹️
Did you allow it to cure properly? Sometimes may be you have used too much of varnish, or water locked inside as the painting wasn't fully dried...
Never ever take spray varnish one whole bottle gets over for a canvas
Depends on the size of your canvas...but I never had the whole bottle run out for any of my canvas! Ensure that the lid of the varnish is closed properly, as it evopourates so quickly. Also do not overspray or press the nozzle too much when working with it.
maam do i clean the varnish brush with plain water?
Better to clean with soap and water..watch the brush cleaning video...and do not use the brush for regular painting anymore...keep it aside for varnishing
Can we glass frame after varnishing?
You can, but not compulsory/necessary...varnish will give you enough protection. Also you need to look-out for the reflections on the glass plus the glossiness of the varnish itself. Spacers/mat should definitely be considered if you are framing.
