XC Vs Enduro | What's Faster Up Then Down?

  • Cross Country bikes are faster than Enduro bikes up a hill, well they should be as they are lighter and have less suspension travel, but by how much? Does an XC bike have enough of a lead to beat an Enduro bike back to the bottom of the hill?

    I also want to see XC racer vs Enduro racer.Having the stamina to climb fast is something you need to practice. XC WC racers have the big advantage of fitness and bike handling. Pro Enduro riders are fit too but not at the level of the xc racers. The climbs are where it's won almost all the time.

      @jacobuserasmus Рік тому

      @@mutleyadamsracing2684 yes my experience is also that XCO is definitely won on the climbs. The difference is just that they would spend some time recovering at the top where I would simply drop into my run without needed to recover.

    I love how Blake calls the 120mm FS a boneshaker! 😅Meanwhile im riding down rocky trails as fast as I can on my 100mm hardtail without a dropper... 120mm FS would feel like riding a cloud for me!
    Great point made by Neil regarding being too tired to ride as fast as possible on the downhills. Alot of enduro riders do a climb, stop at the beginning of the trail for a few mins and then ride down. Meanwhile us XC riders ride up the climb at a fast pace and drop into the trail right away.

    the advantage in a timed loop with equal parts climbing and descending (unless the descent is brutal) is always with the lighter bike all else being equal. The gap is based on speed over time, and climbing stages simply take more time. I’ve done this challenge personally on many of my favorite trail loops and the bigger bike was never faster overall.

    there both good capable bikes but it is worth deciding what type of riding you prefer in order to decide which machine is right for you as there is a difference which is something that i would of ignored apart from the obvious downhill type mtb's,
    good race guys 👍

    I think better option for XC bike would be Scott Spark RC with 120mm susp. super fast in uphill and fast in DH 😁

      The orbea oiz actually has 120mm both front and rear, and the geometry is pretty similar so it would be about the same.

    My last mountain bike xc race and I was doing well on the climbs but got clobbered on the downs . I was surprised how many minutes I fell to people I clobbered on the climbs .
    The bikes today allows for so much more speed on the downs that the days of winning on the climb is not a guarantee anymore

    Best choice would have been the medium bike: 29' wheels with 140 mm travel. "trail bike?" Very nice video. Thanks

    So I got SWorks Enduro. I put Maxxis Ardent Race front and back. The bike weight 12.5kg with clip pedal. I wonder whether this can be my trail bike. Weight wise is good. Just wondering whether the suspension setup will make it inefficient climber. Thought?

    I love my enduro bike so much! I’m aware that it’s not as fast as an xc bike could be, but I just don’t care.
    I was really impressed by how quick the enduro was! I thought the split would have been bigger.
    I’m still team enduro for sure.

    I reckon ‘most’ people have got a 140/150mm full sus trail bike (which I say without access to any actual stats). So it would be good to see if a bike like that does sit in the middle; is it the best of both worlds or a poor compromise?

    I go out on my orbea Occam 140mm trail bike with my friend on a mondraker superfoxy 170mm enduro. Mine climbs better and rolls better on smooth his makes up ground downhill on harder stuff but feel like mines the perfect middle ground.

    As a passionate biker, riding XC is so much fun, because descents need much more technic an bodyfeeling than shredding down an enduro bike and the limits of modern XC bikes getting closer to enduro bikes, even though you need to go slower

    The problem with your test is that Blake isn't your typical XC rider and could bomb downhill on any bike.

      I guess tho that would theoretically make him worse on the climbs, so it might even it out but that's still a good point.

  • @larrymoore2571
    @larrymoore2571 Рік тому

    Do you choose the bike based on 15% (downhill) of your ride or the combined 85% (uphill) and the downhill. This is why XC racers choose XC bikes. If it is a XC race or a challenging climbing route, obviously it will be the XC bike, but if you ride to huck the downhill then the enduro wins. For older guys like me, I sold my enduro and love my XC bike because I no longer bomb rock gardens and it makes the climbing a little more tolerable.

  • @pernyberg2816
    @pernyberg2816 Рік тому

    Would have been interesting if they had the same tyres. Casing stiffness does a lot to rolling resistance. I bet that is a bigger factor on the climbs than the SYSTEM weight - that actually was in favor FOR the enduro bike?!
