Ive raced on the same track as cat 1 racers. With a 5 minutes head start I was caught just before the halfway mark and passed like I was a spectator. World cup racers are on a completely different level. It's insane.
So, the real winner is Nick. He's made it to the finish line in one piece, despite riding in the worst possible conditions (he didn't even know the route).
Love the fact that Nicks camera angle and muddiness gets worse and worse just as he collapses more and more! Kudos, I don't think I would've made it. That was some serious effort!
It's a little mean spirited to send a beginner down that course in those conditions with semi slick tires. I think even the pros would mount something with a little more side knob for those conditions.
Best wishes to Mona for the Olympics, I know that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with her either….🍻 On a side note, I believe the 2024 Scalpel is a 120mm travel bike, not 100mm. Unless the bikes get modified for the racers?! Also interesting to see that although the bike is spec’d with full XTR the brakes are XT’s? Can someone elaborate on that?
It was a "media bike" as I understood it - or rather not one of the racers bikes, but one of their supporters/coaches/whatever this guy was (I think the name was just dropped, nothing about who he is). The brakes are the 4-pot models, which doesn't exist in XTR. Presumably he's a bigger guy, and rides the brakes a little more maybe since not a racer, so need the bigger more capable brakes?
@@BrianKlausenMedia bike makes sense then. XTR however do have 4 pot options. 9120 is the 4 piston XTR version, 9100 is the two piston caliper. Just as the XT’s are 8120 for the 4 pot and 8100 for the 2 pot.
@@Onkelrico Ah - my bad. Also, looked over the video, and the bike belongs to one of the teams "performance coaches" - so not a racer per se. Still 45T first gear and 34T chain ring though - so he's probably reasonably fit to say the least :). But it kind of makes sense that not everything necessarily is top shelf - though you might ask why not? And that... I can't help you with :D.
Nick was every normal bike rider, I do have to adk though was he a sailor at any point? There were a few choice words coming out there. Don't worry Nick, most of us would have been doing the same. I wonder what the boy's opinions are on the lefty shock? Perhaps Neil can discuss it with Martyn in the Dirt Shed Show.
the tires after raining is sheit XD not enough large knobs to not skid And maybe it would help to release so air from the tire to get more grip but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ was fun
Can somebody plz tell me why this channel still only uploads 1080p in this day and age. "thousands of pounds worth of gear" while the quality on youtube videos is like we still use pc's to edit from 10+ years ago, or we can't pay for enough storage..plz editors tell me. If all else at least just upscale it to 4k so youtube can use the higher bitrate to make it look better for us.

Precisely 😉 A heroic effort!
lol, awesome commentary from Nick while riding 🤣 And big respect! I wouldn't even saddle up in such conditions 😝 Nice rides, anyway!!
"i feel like steve jones when he's on a normal bike"
shots fired lmao
Peow Peow 👉 👉
I love how the camera guy failed to set his chest cam to the right angle 😅
Nice top tube view tho
Yeah we did think that 😅 He mentioned that it was tough to adjust and with the limited time available for him to lap he ran with it!
fair play nick that looked horrendous for you. well done :)
Lets see camera man Nick and Rich race XC!!!!

I bet Martyn was as giddy as a school girl seeing you guys ride Cannondales. Nick, Neil owes you some beers for just finishing that.
Poor Nick maaan, he really got the short end of the stick xd
I hope he gets paid enough for this shit :D
Professional camera man: films nothing but top tube 😂
awesome video. Nick participating is like the best part. I think I would feel the same

No mean spirits here! Nick and ourselves were confident enough in his ability to be able to ride the course :)

There's no difference in braking power between the 4-pot XT and 4-pot XTR. It's just a bit of weight saving.
More XCO please 🙂
that would be very interesting to have done this course with propper mud tyres :)
Oh that Lefty fork 🥵 makes me think of Lachlan Morton!
Seems to me that my riding time and walking time would be practicaly the same there. I mean lap riden vs lap walked.
😂😂😂 Probably not far off in these conditions!
How is possible that the official footage is worse than the gmbn footage 😂

11:54 ahahaha where's Nigel Page when you need him!
Neil's time isn't bad. probably should try an age group xc race for some different video
Why wasn't Nick riding again after the race?
Our trip itinerary didn't allow us to hang around for very long!
Great video…the chainsaw people are really, really, really annoying though. I don’t get it.

For a filmer that was the worst GoPro footage I’ve ever seen thanks for the five minutes of your feet and commentary
XCO riders don't get nearly the respect they deserve from casual gravity/trail riders.

That's what e-bikes do to you , make you a big p
Neil riding a lefty????
That’s one ugly hat 😂
