Tirek: had to be imprisoned in tartarus for a long time until he could get free and manipulate discord to helping him. The only thing to stop him was the tree of harmony. Had to do all of this after being betrayed by his brother
Starlight Glimmer: mad for a friend leaving her because they were growing up Turned an entire town to her will and almost brought twilight to a universal stalemate because she couldn't take being alone.
How in the heck is starlight's reform so quick. SHE EVEN SAID SHE WOULD TAKE ANY PUNISHMENT GIVEN TO HER. Alright I understand the "reformation rather than punishment method" but still they literally just gave her a parade and let her go -_- not cool. Flurry Heart better be a tyrant with evil connections
With S5 meant to be the finale episode they had to reform her but I think a punishment would be when she did the time travel spell she destroyed the castle so she could fix that
Honestly I think Starlight should have went on to become Twilight's arch-enemy. Just imagine how much those two would get on each others nerves.

Starlight started out as a character with so much potential: a manipulative, skilled unicorn who wanted to brainwash ponies into agreeing with her worldview. The season 5 opener left me wanting to know so much more about this character.
The season finale took all that potential and just threw it out the window. Her backstory was severely underwhelming, and her reformation was so abrupt it was like whiplash. And despite a long list of felonies she was accepted into the group with nothing but an apology.
I don't object to the idea of her reforming eventually, but she could have been a powerful recurring villain who underwent a slow change of heart.
Even Discord had a more gradual reformation. His betrayal wasn't actually out of character, since he was only halfway there, faking the rest of his reformation until he actually repented inside.
I just hate the fact that everyone accepts Starlight immediately while they still dont accept Discord completely

My biggest issue is *how* she was reformed. In a nut shell - Sunset Shimmer (a bully) was basically given the MLP equivalent of a Care Bear Stare, while Starlight Glimmer (a tyrannical ruler) was talked to and basically told to "Get over it!". That's pretty much the equivalent of slapping Hitler in the face for being "a bad boy". Yeah... kinda a death sentence.

My problem isn't that Starlight isn't a recurring villain, it's that her reformation (EW) was handled WAY TOO HORRIBLY. Seriously, this is quite possibly the most dangerous villain the show has ever seen yet (sure, the other main villains posed huge threats, but Starlight here manages to top all of them!).
She is the most dangerous villain of the show, and all because a friend moved away.

I mean, I've gotten a response along the lines of "Oh, I've seen pettier," but that doesn't change how frickin' petty and pathetic that excuse is. It actually makes Starlight even more of a threat, as she is willing to go to these extremes all because HER FRIEND SEIZED A VERY GOOD OPPORTUNITY AND MOVED TO CANTERLOT.
They should've either locked her petty, whining, childish ass up in Tartarus, or at least put her on SOME sort of probation, and not have everyone throw a fucking party for her and be all friendly with her.

I myself was bullied for multiple years, and let me tell you that in the real world, bullies should NEVER, EVER be that easily forgiven (which should be obvious). Also, Diamond being "bullied" by her mother shouldn't be a surprise either, as many bullies have had worse things done to them.
*Starlight Glimmer:* If Hitler had apologized for killing MILLIONS of innocent people, and used some half-assed excuse, would YOU forgive him? HELL NAW!!

A) Starlight lived in a village with other ponies. She wasn't on her own only with that other guy in the middle of nowhere.

I want a recurring villain. I was hoping Starlight would be that villain. Sort of a Khan to Twilight (Kirk). We saw a little of this in how she wanted Twilight to suffer as revenge. It didn't last...

My issue with with Starlight is that she made a cult which used torture to brainwash ponies and destroyed equestria itself several times through time-travel (and was willing to continue to do so even after seeing the results of her actions) because a childhood friend moved away. And it was after he got a cutie mark after saving her from being hurt and he ran to his parents to celebrate while she sulked instead of congratulating him. Yeah, clearly HE was the terrible friend here! Call me heartless but I didn't sympathize with her at all. To me, Starlight was a sociopath throwing a tantrum and doesn't care who has to suffer for her own happiness. She was a villain I loved to hate.

She never really saw the result of her actions she only saw one and Twighlight said something like "This isn't the only Future I've seen blah blah blah change your mind" and Twighlight basically saying the world depended on her when telling Starlight to stop makes her seem like a narcissistic b****.
Starlights not congratulating him does seem like a dick move but its said that she tried to reach out to sunburst and he just didn't care. We know Starlight stayed at the village for a long time (The parent map proves this.) before leaving to create her town. (The AceRacebest character seems to have ski's that still fit him so it couldn't have been that long.)
Of course Starlight did brainwash people but she in her mind thought she was saving them from being hurt. She didn't want people to be hurt like her. I'm 1000% sure that if someone was bullying another in her town her past would kick in and she would probably hurt the bully. I'm not saying she was justified but she did have her own reasons.
*With mlp Gen 4 ending already I say she definitely redeemed herself.*

Actually she destroyed Equestria itself multiple times unintentionally, because she didn't think Twilight and her friends were important to Equestria. Her village was probably so secluded from the whole country that she never heard of all the great things Twilight and her friends did, and she didn't want to believe it even if Twilight told her about it because the only thing in her head was that the mane 6 took away her village.
Even when Starlight saw the consequences of her actions, according to her dialogue she didn't believe in Twilight, or rather she didn't care, because her hatred for Twilight and her friends blocked out any reasonable consequence in her mind. That part would be a bit of a tantrum. And the only reason she chose to reform and made friends with Twilight is because she realized the consequences of her actions and she believes in Twilight forgiving her, that's why she stopped all of her tyranny.
About you saying she sulked instead of congratulating Sunburst, she didn't really sulk, she was very very close to Sunburst and he literally bumped into her when he got his cutie mark, without even acknowledging Starlight was there. Starlight must be so close to Sunburst, almost like a brother, for her to feel so broken and mentally unstable on the inside because of a cutie mark.
Trixie was never evil though, Babs Seed was a kid looking for attention, and Diamond Tiara was well... Raised wrong.
Starlight is OP. She matched an alicorn who's Talent is magic itself. Yeah the shows writers really dropped the ball most of the fifth season.

I had no problem with Starlight being reformed, in fact I was expecting it because of how similar she was to both Twilight and Sunset as far as magical prowess went. My biggest complaint was her reason for going so extreme in the first place.
That last bit was funny hehe.
For a show about friendship, it has a fandom that has a big problem with making friends with flawed characters.

I'd have to argue that Starlight Glimmer IS over powered. 1, She had the power to remove cutiemarks! And it's been established that there's no magic that can give a pony a cutiemark. Sure, removing them may be different, but that's gotta be some powerful magic. 2, Starlight was able to modify Starswirl's time travel spell. Do you know what happened last time a pony modified one of Starswirl's spells? She became an alicorn. 3, Starlight Glimmer is just as strong as Twilight Sparkle in magical ability. Starlight, a unicorn, was strong enough to be an equal match to Twilight, an alicorn who's special talent is MAGIC. Not only that, but she was able to match Twilight while using a levitation spell on herself. If Starlight didn't have to focus on the levitation spell, She could've wiped the floor...er...clouds(?) with Twilight. Granted, it's possible that Twilight was holding back so that she didn't harm anypony. But imagine if Starlight Glimmer rose to alicorn status. She'd wipe the floor with Twilight...again.

I demand a deeper backstory. With depth. And feeling. In fact, forget the backstory.
***** Actually, considering the number of fans like myself who use the canon as the basis for fimfics, it's never too late. I myself have only gotten as far as 'Magical Mystery Cure,' so I have plenty of time to tweak my version of season 5.
***** It also doesn't make canon better than something a fan could come up with. Given we have more time, we can _easily_ come up with something better, which explains Starlight's attitude in a way that is truly satisfactory and sympathetic. But then, it'd be easy to write Starlight and Twilight better than Haber did in the finale. I was extremely disappointed to find that I actually hated the episode. An episode of _FiM_ I _really_, strongly dislike? It happened.
Honestly, whenever people compare her To Sunset there is always one major Element that people seem to overlook: Their respective motivations. Sunset's motivation was clear from the start: Status/power. But as the story goes along you can see clearly Why that is: she's Extremely Insecure. Why else would she only Engage two people one-on-one? because both of them were the "weak" one(s). It was easy to use things like that to Read into Sunset's backstory, we never got elements like that when we first met Starlight, all we learned was that she was a massive hypocrite.
I could go on and on about why shouldn't have been reformed, but you seemed to have touched on most of the problems I had with it.
So the short answer is this... no, she should not have... at least not this quick.
On another note, I'm getting tired of Twilight saying 'you gotta make friends and now you have six of them'. I get that she's trying to include her friends in the process of helping someone make a friend, but in a way, it kinda sounds like they don't have a say in the matter like they HAVE to become friends with this new pony/pony that has wronged them.
I am deeply and personally offended that Trixie was counted as a villain. XD I mean, hey, if a bunch of village ponies who can't tell simple stage acting when they see it (granted Trixie went a little overboard, but boasting is literally her job) ruined my career, I'd be pretty dang salty about it too

The point of the matter IS, that in the end none of what she did had TRUE consequences. Tell me, is Twilight now living in a world ruled by Sombra, Chrysalis or even the Flim Flam brothers? No, she is not.
Quite frankly, this is mostly all the Mane 6's fault. People don't stop to THINK, and consider.
How long do you think Starlight's village has existed? Last I checked, we didn't hear ANYTHING about this village doing stuff to Equestria out of dark deed. Hell if it weren't for the map, none of this would even matter, especially with its arbitrary idea on what a "Friendship" problem constitutes.
What show do you think you're watching? Friendship is literally the solution to everything. Except that one time where it was love. At least Twilight had to TALK Starlight into giving friendship another chance. That's way less lazy than rainbow lasers.
I'm not saying banish her to the moon for 1,000 years but she brainwashed ponies into staying in one village. And took their cutie marks (even if her intent was "good"). I don't know, do the equivalent of community service in Equestria for like, one week. I'm aware it's a little girl's show but she should be earning her place instead of finishing the finale with instant best friends. I hope she gets some development in Season 6.

During her song, when she says, "right where I left it off and made a friend", the spark appeared in her eye. The same spark happens in twilights eye whenever she exhibits her element. It happened with sunset in EQG. This could be a subtle way of making her the new element of magic. It also makes a lot of sense since she is very powerful with her magic.
There's a fanfic called "that's it?" where twilight responds to starlight's back story with a rant, about how starlight losing her friend shouldn't justify starting an anti-cutie mark cult. It's a good fic, and I highly recommend reading it.

I wanted Trixie instead of her. Why reform her so fast? They had like 40 minutes, they could have had 40 minutes to make her sympathetic or have the reform be alittle less oh we are friends now and everything is cool, no punishment for you starlight. I mean they could have in the 4 episodes she was in they could have put subtle hints she just wanted to be loved and accepted but noooooo they had to make us think she is a sociopath bent on destroying cutie marks. I wish we could ask the writers why? Their answer would be that its a kids show so don't think to hard. :sigh:

We treated Diamond Tiara as a villain. We can treat them as villains too.
I feel like that they just "quickly" reformed her because they planned to have her the next season, but wanted to show people that it was gonna happen, and they have a limited time slot for an episode, so they had to do a "quick" reformation just to show that she'll be important, or at least relevant in the next season. I think that in the premiere of the next season will show that the Mane 6 (except for Twilight most likely...) will be skeptical about her being quote on quote "reformed", which will upset her, then blah blah, later on it the episode's storyline, they realize that Starlight's intentions had some reason to them, and that she really does want to become a better person, so they accept it, life goes on, she's now a relatively important character. I honestly doubt this in some regards, but it is still plausible. (And hey, please give me some respect for this "theory", I'm entitled to my own opinion just as much as you are, so don't be a douche.)

Well, technically, Starlight did have to live in a cave for twenty or so some odd episodes (how ever long that is in actual pony time) and who knows what kind of dangerous or potentially harmful creatures reside in that cave, so, I think Starlight did receive a certain amount of punishment before her reformation, but, all in all, the Mane six clearly agreed to quickly forgive Starlight for her transgressions due to her overwhelmingly powerful and obviously highly threatening magical abilities.
Most of the time, I was singing If You Wish Upon a Star in my head.

There's a huge hole in your logic. Yes, we did get to see more of Sunset Shimmer and got to see her developed and explored in rainbow rocks, however this happened AFTER her reformation, not before. You're argument was that Starlight Glimmer's reformation would've been better if we had seen more of her, but you're forgetting that we still have season six to develop her. And before you say that that won't fix what happened before, remember that Sunset's character was only explored AFTER her reformation, and we can have season 6 do the same thing.
Also Sunset was only accepted by Twilight and her friends and took a long time before the others accepted her and even then it was not full acceptance they didn't include her in the band for example.

Not to mention, even after discord was reformed, the characters still didn't really like him and he more or less WAS still evil just less than he originally was. Here, its more or less implied that Starlight is just super happy goody-goody now with no suspicion or wariness from other characters.
it doesn't help that most of starlight's screentime had her act manipualtive, selfish, mean spirited, wrathful and VERY smug, so her redemption feels very forced sicne we don't SEE any hints to her being anything other than a jerkass.
abd yeah, what you said at the end is the crux of the problem: TOO MANY villains and antagonists are beign redeemed, and weirdly it seems season 5 had thelargest amount of this and yeah it's hurting the narrative cause now we'll be expecting EVERY villain to be redeemed in some way, out of the three or four who haven't and aren't dead. Not to mention how the comics make this even WORSE and yeah.
And with discord he finnaly was fully good after tirek betrayed him which made him learn about how important friendship is
The kicker is that this was a double episode. For other reformations you could argue it's a half hour show so things get rushed. They would have had plenty of time if they hadn't insisted on showing alternate timelines for every villain.
I know it says '-been reformed', but in my sub box it looked like "Should Starlight Glimmer Have beer"! XD
I also wish they developed starlight more before reforming her, but I think she'll be instrumental in helping deal with the season 6 villain.
Which is good since we now have an Alicorn villain and that could be a bit of an issue.

I am going to be biased here. I love Starlight Glimmer. She is my favorite MLP villain. She is a well intentioned extremist. So she is a good candidate to be reformed. In Season 6, Starlight will probably have to take more time to work on being good. She lost her home and was severely traumatized by it. It may count as punishment, at least at a karmic level.

This did shed a new light on this for me, and I could go on about it but for me I do find that the only reason she reformed so quickly is because she was so quickly and easily driven into "villiany" and jealousy in the first place.

As a whole I just found the episode and the outcome disappointing. In fact the outcome is what bugs me the most. Sunset's friend moved on when he got his cutie mark and she felt abandoned... so what? This happened to Apple Bloom in "Call of the Cutie" where Twist got her mark and we never see the two interact ever again.
Not to mention that Starlight has been forgiven WAY too easily. Ponyville accepts her, the Mane 6 don't see her as a threat, the TOWN forgave her right off the bat. That means we may never see Starlight TRYING to learn from her mistakes or even a redemption episode. Sunset had a better redemption arc. Her only friends where the Human 5, she no longer had power or influence on the school, she calls herself (and maybe others) a demon, she may hit rock bottom and contemplated suicide if the girls didn't help her. She wasn't forgiven or accept by the school until AFTER the Battle of the Bands.
I said it before and I'll say it again, they should've went with something similar to the Justice League Animated episode "Hereafter." Twilight and Spike sent to an alternate timeline or future. Finds out what happened with Equestria. Ally with a wiser Starlight who saw what her views and revenge caused and help sending the two back home. Either Twilight uses a memory to show Starlight what would happen which helps her change her ways or go with the JLA ending, kill her.

The Sunset Shimmer comparison is nothing right now because Starlight's "Rainbow Rocks" hasn't happened yet. Sunset wasn't liked until then either.

You know, I'd actually like to see more about Starlight in Season 6, at least have her kind of struggle with friendship like Sunset did in Rainbow Rocks. I think it'd be nice to have her actually find Sunburst too.
So, other villain reformations? Hm... Chrysalis is one villain that I can see being reformed. Sombra seems to be consumed in the dankness already, and Tirek... well let's just say he's more of the "all by myself~" type of guy.

While I don't like the idea of her being a good girl per say, I will say this much. To your point about her getting forgiven too quickly, we have to remember they can always retcon it in the season 6 opener. Remember how Twilight was able to fly perfectly during the season 3 finale, yet in the season 4 opener she was barely learning how to fly? The point is they'll probably just retcon it like Dr. Wolf said in one of his videos, and I'm sure we'll probably get an episode where we see her trying to earn back the friendships of the people of that village she swindled. You just never know.
So unreformed villians are Crystalis, Tirek, Suri Polomare, Ahuizotel, Diamond Dogs, Garble, Lightning Dust, Wind Rider, Svengallop, Spoiled Rich, the Sirens, Dr. Caballeron, Principle Cinch, and the Flim Flam Brothers. Sombra is reformed in the comics but that isn't official until the show confirms it and it is unlikely it will so count him as unreformed as well. fifteen unreformed villians.
Reformed villians are Luna/Nightmare Moon, Gilda, Babs Seed, Diamond Tiara, Trixie, Sunset Shimmer, Starlight Glimmer, the Shadowbolts(Crystal Prep), and possibly Silver Spoon (unconfirmed but assumed). Nine possibly ten reformed.
There are more unreformed villians than reformed villians.

Seriously though I do admit that it was a bit sudden due to time constrictions. Still, I think Starlight might be one of the most mentally unhinged characters that came from her loneliness, so I think part of the reason why they aren't being too hard on her despite nearly causing the time/space continuum to be altered for the worse is that they want to help heal her wounds so that she doesn't go off the deep end. She's not evil, just a bit screwed up in the head from loneliness. Isolation can drive you MAD. XD
In that case she needs to be in the screwball house.

Not only that but if every villian is reformed, the children will assume that everyone can be good. Not everyone can change and children she be taught that.
I would like to see chrysalis become not so much the main villain but instead a main antagonist. She Can represent a gray area due to her love of her people but the willingness to do what ever it takes, or rather, what she believes what it would take for them.
I remember one of the reasons she was 'accepted' so quickly was because when the mane 6 were talking about her they brought up how powerful a magic user she was. Like... THAT was one of the reasons she became their friend. without that she probably could have just been left alone.

on one side it's them thinking "hey she's got strong magic let's use that to our advantage."
on the other it's basically saying "Agree with me and let me be your friend or i'mm going to probably fight you again."
Another reason is because Twilight saw that she was traumatized and hurting. She wasn't some evil big bad guy who wanted to destroy friendship, she was someone who genuinely valued friendship but was lonely and never understood how healthy relationships work. Punishing her and abandoning her would never help, but being her friend and helping her get back up onto her feet in the right direction would though.

I agree the reformation was rushed, but plenty of endings are. Also, they have to make it seem like it could be the end of everything on the offchance they don't get another season so I think we saw glimpses into her future in the finale and we will backtrack a ways in Season 6. Plus, the 'it literally might be the final season' is the reason we won't get a multi-season villain, as amazing as that would be. We could get a new one _unreform_ old ones though... think about it ...

What I'm hoping for in season six is that there will be some struggles with their friendship, and maybe even she should go back to distrusting them sometimes. I don't know though, I just don't like how quickly they forgave her and stuff, and I'll honestly be upset if they ALL trust her and act like best friends with her after such a short discussion.

Over the past 5 seasons, this show has gotten grittier and more mature, and I like that. There are two major events that could show that this show is truly growing up: acknowledging death (they've come so close this season!) and having the mane six fail to redeem a villain, requiring it to instead be traditionally defeated.
I wonder if it's actually come far enough to allow for either.
I do feel like she should've had something coming. Maybe something will happen regarding this in season 6.

Counterpoint to so many villians being reformed. A standard villain story starts with them being good and getting corrupted and yet that narrative is never unbelievable.
Also the examples you gave, Trixie, DT and Silverspoon, Flam and Flam. None of them are really bad guys. They're antagonists for sure but not close to villians.
I just want them to write a better villain next time.
Honestly comes it comes Starlight becoming friends with the mane 6, I just see it as her being on parole. I mean, that's what they were kinda doing with Discord right ? You know, being under constant supervision while reforming at the same time.

Frankly I think she's far too much of a psychopath to have been reformed at all. Generally cartoon villains are pretty one-dimensional, their motivations often laughable but they show up, wreck things up a bit and the heroes vanquish them. Rinse, Repeat.
But here we have a character who was willing to destroy reality over a personal grudge, stalked Twi over the entire season, (which _is_ a felony and she did it to _a princess of the realm_) and let's not forget stripped the civil liberties and natural magic of an entire town through manipulation and quite obviously fear. Because her friend got a scholarship to get trained in his extra magic and she didn't... She's a monster and a dangerous one at that in that she can appear to be more or less normal.
I'm currently _cringing_ with worry at how much we'll have to see of her in season 6.

Was it a bit rushed? Maybe. But, I'm okay with her reformation, seeing we'll be getting more character development in S6.

I dunno, I feel like Starlight's reformation was one of the best so far. All the other ones have felt like there was a "snap" in them all of a sudden. With Starlight, there was a lot of back and forth, even if it was for a few minutes, until she reluctantly agreed. It just seems a lot more genuine to me (compared to the others, I mean... :P)
Now that's assuming she's not magically part of the cast next season with no repercussions...then my thoughts will change.
Normally, I agree with pretty much everything you talk about KP, but Starlight Glimmer is kind of OP. Sure, she may not blow things up with mere magic alone, but she CHANGED TIME. It was actually more that she changed what Twilight called "the greatest unicorn's spell", not just some basic time spell. She did something that PRINCESS Twily couldn't do.
And Twilight was made a princess because she made/finished a spell that the greatest wizard couldn't. But Starlight did the same thing. In fact, she went beyond just finishing his spell, she changed it and it worked. Sure, what she undid actually caused major issues for the future, but she didn't know how it would play out. Like a kid playing with a fire that they helped to make bigger. She is really a big threat. Sure, she wants friends, but that was a big spell and is a big deal.
I wish she had stayed evil and that we got a totally different plot for the season finale altogether. I mean instead of having something that changes the status quo like every other season, all we got was a rushed reformation of a villain who was given probably the weakest motivation ever to do what she did. So now in season 6 were going to have an "Explore Equestria" theme which is fine and all but I think they wrote themselves into a corner by not having a drastic change happen in the season 5 finale and now they're just putting in something random like have a "show the fans new areas" arc because they have nothing to go off of. My point is that Starlight should have been this unique villain who could not change no matter how hard Twilight and her friends tried because her reformation was way too rushed and unrealistic. I still don't get this pattern either: Twilight turns into an alicorn>Twilight gets a castle and realizes her role as a princess>Starlight Glimmer turns good and nothing new gets established or added........soooooo now what? The mane six have literally NOTHING new to do in season 6. Explore Equestria probably means more map quests but that was season five's theme and even though we only got to see 2 new areas it doesn't matter, still no excuse to not have something entirely different happen.

let me add my two cents here:
when she walks into the chair room she states that she's ready for whatever punishment seem fit for her, but since twilight is the PRINCESS OF FRIENDSHIP she chooses that her punishment should be redemption and learning to see the world in another way
this is much the same way that sunset shimmer was redeemed, she was given the option of becoming their friend or walking away from it
in both of these cases it was rushed though, but the two points i brought forward makes the redemption seem less rushed
i do want an episode were starlight glimmer meets sunburst again just to make it go full circle though

Maybe it's just the nature of evil in Equestria. After all the land isn't a place where evil thrives. Not only that but vengeance doesn't seem to have a home their either. There are some places in the multiverse where evil just doesn't work that well, just as there are other places where it works perfectly.
I would have liked more of Glimmer as well, her showing up as a re-accuring villain as the M6 travel across Equestria and run into her trying to make a bad situation worse or trying to re-establish her old kingdom and having her goal continually thwarted would have been a good build up to the finale. It would have been interesting to see her and Twilight establish a relationship much like Celistia and Luna where Glimer is driven by jealousy to become Nightmare Moon.
I agree, they need some new villains and I hope the new ones have staying power.
