On the left side of the engine high up on the front end there is a hand pump for priming the fuel rail. No one seemed to know that. Either can damage an engine, and starters are not cheap. Best know what you're working on before you do.
Long video. Late start in video.... Much need edit. Big yellow truck cool although. Might need new tires down field. Hello from cuba. Bad english. Grandma apologies
What better than putting 1000A load onto the John Deere's altelnator. You have to turn off the engine durning jumpstart or you will have a melted altelnator and these aren't cheap.
I think you'll find all alternators are voltage limited by their in-built regulator and current limited by the available flux linkages between the rotor (field) and the stator, it will deliver its rated current only no matter what you do, after that the output voltage drops accordingly, your 1000A is impossible unless you actually have a 1000A rated alternator, which would be fairly massive being a 24kW generator in this instance of 24V installed vehicles.
@@572Btriode You're right, there wont be 1000A flowing. JD 8370R has 12V system and alternator will try to stabilize ~14-15V but starter will pull it down to ~10V, so it's still almost like short circuiting it and it's still a bad thing to do, right? Alternators aren't made to dissipate that much heat and I have seen burned alternators, caused by overloading. Plus there will be very unstable voltage / under voltage for onboard electronics, solenoids etc.
@@ganji7694 I thought I saw them hitching two batteries, although they might well be parallel, but I would have thought the CAT was a 24V system, no matter. The starter might try to pull it down to say 10V but the slave battery will then be supplying a lot of amps too and it is all limited by the jump lead resistance and the clamps on either end which are never better than adequate. I doubt very much that the slave battery gets to 10V, 12.5V to 13V I could believe. Most all alternators have a fairly good centrifugal fan too which draws quite a bit of cooling air through them but they have quite some thermal mass too so a bit of cranking and full output isn't going to do much; generally now the standard is 150A device in most everything and that is nearly enough to run the starter on its own. Burned alternators are usually caused by other factors like a S/C diode or shorted turn which will certainly do it. For what a specific alternator will do you'd have to see the manufacturers spec as they might give say a 5 min max rating and a lower continuous rating. Starters being DC motors also have the characteristic of rapidly killing an already struggling battery, they try to produce n HP to turn the engine and that means a given voltage at a fairly high current i.e., electrical watts to HP, but drop the volts with a failing or very cold battery having significant internal resistance and the starter just takes more amps to try to maintain its n HP in VA watts which causes further battery voltage sag, you can see where this is going. . . . . It's all about back emf, being a DC motor the starter is also a generator and is current limited by the back emf which is wholly dependant on speed, off load they take very little running current but will rev dangerously, probably around 5,000rpm.
What is that guy in the pink jacket saying at the beginning? "Cheese pressure, Cheese pressure!" Does the machine run on cheese so he's priming the cheese pump?
Everyone there seems to know what they're doing except there's always that one guy that's struggling to turn a key. All he had to do was turn and hold it but no.. That was too much to ask.
@@henrychalmers223 I have heard it all now. 🤣 So when it fired for the first time and he let's go of the key and it stops, that was because he didn't want to burn out the starter? That comment was as dumb as the guy that can't turn a key and hold it.
@@David-qn9wu he stopped it turning because you could hear the starter slow down and it had drained the batteries meaning it would not start. They just needed to let the JD charge the tractor back up before trying again
@@johnrustad8540 I am aware of the obvious I watched the video. I am talking about as it fired he let go instead of holding the key. If you have never cold started a large diesel engine please do not reply to my comment.
