  • This video shows you how to protect the plastic rear window on a 1990-1997 Mazda MX-5 Miata and Eunos Roadster.
By using “The Towel Trick” you are able to take the top down without unzipping the back window.
It also protects the window from harmful sun damage and abrasions from the top rubbing on it.
Having the rolled up towel inserted, helps to stop the back window from “Pancaking” or squishing flat when it gets warm. This prevents cracking and stress to the plastic, by putting a gentle and consistent curve to the window.

I’m just impressed that the window folded so quickly in cool weather. My Robins top one piece’s window is slow to fold and just sits high like a VW Beetle top until it’s warm enough to settle down. I saw the puffy cold weather jacket and assumed it was a chilly morning.

Just got myself a miata na. The plastic window is removable but its very hard to put back due to the end of the zippers being broken. This fixed my ordeal

A household door draught excluder works too.

I use a piece of foam insulation used for household hot water piping. No need to fiddle with keeping the towel rolled up while placing it.

As they say on Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy "it's a dangerous universe out there, you've really got to know where your towel is " 😉
Is this a right hand drive car? Can't be too many of those in the US - imported Eunos roadster maybe?
PS I protect my back window too, but it was already badly scuffed when I bought her three years ago. Do you have any restoration tips other than replacing it?

Hi Robin, the car in the video is a 1990 Eunos Roadster that was imported from Japan 🇯🇵 about 8years ago.
      It’s a dream to drive 👍

I will be making a video on back window restoration and polishing in the next week or two. I have a very effective method that yields great results.

Mine's a UK model - so RHD too - a 1995 1.8iS. Bought it very cheaply in the UK in 2017 and drove it back to France. It's a blast to drive. I'm gradually restoring it as time and budget allow while using it as my daily driver. There's something a bit exotic about driving a RHD car in a LHD country. There are lots of Eunos imports in the UK. They're generally better equipped than the European models but unfortunately near impossible to register here in France, otherwise I'd be very tempted to bring one back here. There is a possibility now to register cars older than 30yrs as classics, in which case it's a little less complicated. So I guess I can start thinking about a very early Eunos. They are way cheaper in the UK than in continental Europe though prices are beginning to rise even in the UK. But then there's also the impact of Brexit to consider which may make importing a bit more complex.
