    For several hours after a walk in the park my pug had been constantly reverse sneezing. After reaching the conclusion it wasn’t related to heat exhaustion I tried this method and my dog ended up ‘normal’ sneezing a large blade of grass out his nose!! Thank you so so much for making this video!! You’ve saved him from what could have been a much nastier problem

    Yes, my beagle would have these episodes when we used a regular collar. He'd get excited in cool weather, then pull on leash and he'd up with the snorting sound. We ended up switching him to a harness. He prevented the hyperventilating/reverse sneezing 90%. The 10% was due to him sniffing close to the ground and probably inhaled something that irritated him.

    I have a French Bulldog her name is Niecy, as I got her from my Niece that had a litter.
    When we had her spayed our vet suggested that she could clip the flaps in her nose to make it easier for Niecy to breathe.
    She’s 2 years old now and the first time she reversed sneezed it scared me as I thought she was having some kind of seizure! I comforted her and she came out of it! The older she’s gotten the less frequent the reverse sneezing has gotten!
    I found that when she gets into her reverse sneezing jag,if I push down on her nose with my finger she comes out of it quicker!

    This video was really helpful. I have two Foxies, 2 yr old siblings I have had since 8 weeks. The little girl has done this occasionally since very young so I have got used to hearing her, however her brother has only just started doing it so would you suggest getting him looked at? Thanks

      Hi Steph, if the signs in your boy are unusual and continue it would be worth a check. Realise that your vet will need to anaesthetise - they need to check for foreign bodies and flush the nose etc.

    Thank you so much for this video ❤ our Frenchie (5 y/o) started reverse sneezing last week. How often is still normal for them? We took him to the vet who gave him an injection and he stopped reverse sneezing for 3 days now it started again… I suppose it is allergies but it would be nice to know how often is normal for Frenchies 😊 thank you!!!

    My Frenchie Bear reverse sneezes a lot. Lately he has been “coughing” up mucus/phlegm and sometimes food after a reverse sneeze.. And it can happen multiple times in a day. I know this could be allergies as the seasons are changing. Would Benedryl help to settle it down?

    • @YourVetOnline
      @YourVetOnline  4 роки тому +4

      Hi Connie
      Thanks for your question. Benadryl could possibly work, however studies show that anti-histamines are only effective in about 20% of dogs. If it doesn't work, you may need to investigate other medications for allergies.

    I have a Cavalier King Charles. She seems to reverse sneeze when she gets over excited. She wears a harness when going for walks but even then she’ll reverse sneeze if she over reacts and pulls on her lead upon seeing another dog. It’s quite alarming at times. Today she became agitated on our walk. It took her several minutes to calm down and breathe normal.

    • @YourVetOnline
      @YourVetOnline  4 роки тому

      Hi Ruth, thanks for your comment. Yes this can be quite common. As you say her anxiousness is likely causing her to breath in an abnormal way that is causing this issue. The more you can practice calm walks, the less reverse sneezing will occur. All the best.

    My little 6 lb Morkie started reverse sneezing about 6 months ago. It's was far and few between but as of the last 3 months ths the episodes have increased and it happens much more frequently. I have taken him to a vet who, prescribed a cough medicine type thing for him and that helped for the time he was on the medication but approximately a week after he started again. It happens at any time and is becoming increasingly more frequent. Happens when he is sleeping at night, laying around, after eating or drinking and at any other time for no apparent reason. What could I do to help him and what could be the cause

    My dog started reverse sneezing a few days ago. Other dogs in my neighborhood also recently started reverse sneezing. So i assume this is environmental allergies. Ive seen her do this more at night, sometimes she has around 6-7 episodes. I took her to the vet and recommended some drugs. 4th day today and i see slight improvement but she still having around 3 episodes a day. Is that something to worry about? She will be 1 year in March. Thank you for the tips.

    I’ve been told this before about why vets say what causes reverse sneezing. My dog is a t-cup short nosed chihuahua. The only time he ever reverse sneezes are from emotions. When I go away to the store or anywhere, when I get back he gets excited then he immediately goes into reverse sneezes. When a stranger comes to the door he is quiet but as soon as they leave he starts reverse sneezing. When we are outside and another dog and he sniff each other in a friendly way, as soon as we move on he will reverse sneeze. My little guy doesn’t reverse sneeze because of any irritant.
    I had a toy yorkie that was exactly the same way. So I am not an advocate of the traditional explanation of reverse sneezing.

    • @YourVetOnline
      @YourVetOnline  Рік тому

      Yes, as we explained in the video excitement can cause reverse sneezing.

    I have a Pekingese/Chihuahua mix, she's almost 7 years old, and I can tell her reverse sneezing still makes her so nervous! She doesn't have a totally flat face like a purebred Pekingese, but she still has a very short snout.

      @YourVetOnline  3 роки тому

      Yes it can be very distressing for the dog.
      Next time she has a dental exam/clean, ask your vet to check her for signs of BOAS. She may benefit from surgery.

    I have 2 chihuahuas which are father and son and it seems as if they reverse sneeze more then the other chi chi's we have. Can it be a genetic condition? Is it common in chihuahuas? Pancake is 1 year and 8 months and Nugget is 8 months. Your video has put my mind at ease, but I just want to be sure. Thank you for your videos and your time.🐕🐶🐩🐾

    • @YourVetOnline
      @YourVetOnline  4 роки тому

      Hi Stephanie
      Thanks for your question and your kind words.
      Yes it could be genetic. Just like we have features like our parents, our dogs do too.
      So if a dog has a long soft palate then it is possible that their offspring will have a long one too.
      Take care!

    I’m wondering if dogs with reverse sneezing would vomit like once a day? Is there a chance if the dog keeps vomiting because of reverse sneezing? Or is it likely to be caused by other reasons? I am not sure because my dog had ear infection treated a few months ago but when I checked recently the ear seems to be pinkish but with a bit of bright gray color mixed..so just curious what the cause is..
    Thank you!

    • @YourVetOnline

      Vomiting and reverse sneezing are unlikely to be related, but if you have a brachycephalic breed then they may have other issues such as a hiatel hernia. Vomiting daily is not normal. Please discuss with your vet or our online vets at yourvetonline.com

    My dog has been doing this for years, he is a terrier cross, my vet thinks he has a soft palate. He does this every time he gets over excited, it sounds awful but she said that it’s highly unlikely it will get any worse. He occasionally coughs but it’s mostly a honking sound.
