MR2 Spyder Top Speed resonator exhaust + Magnaflow catalytic converter and PPE cold air intake

- It's hard to do the exhaust justice using basic recording equipment, but I get a lot of compliments on the Spyder's exhaust. If it sounds good, it's really by chance. I knew I wanted a real cold-air intake, which meant the PPE was the only option that actually helps power at all. I also knew I wanted center-exit, so that restricted me to just a few options. Overall, it came together and sounds a lot better than I was expecting.

Ha, that's what a lot of people say! I don't think it sounds incredible, but it certainly seems to be a pretty good-sounding 1ZZ.

Gotta love a good rabbit hole. Was online looking for wheel/tire set ups for my integra. Came a across a few pics of 3rd gen mr2’s. Which led me to looking up the curb weight of them as I had no idea what it was (2200lbs give or take if anyone is wondering). I found that on Wikipedia, which then led to me reading the entire section on the w30 mr2’s. After that I decided to just look through google images for some modified ones just to see what people had done to them. Found a few nice looking ones, which led me onto a few different forums. One of the posts also had a nice looking custom exhaust that the owner had taken pics of before installation. Which got me wondering what these cars sound like with an aftermarket exhaust. Upon researching exhaust combinations, I came across this video. Car sounds awesome btw, no idea a Toyota 4 cyl could sound like that. So what started out as research on wheels for a car I do own ended up in me knowing the curb weight, what aesthetic mods and what exhaust I would put on a car that I don’t own 🥴

Any weight loss or gain and does the throttle feel more chirpy/ free? Looking to get back into a MR2 and I am looking into the spyders.
Just sold my 91 sw20 and I have a spyder. Much better build quality on the spyder. I go on long drives (5-8 hours) with my spyder and I could never do that in my old mr2. Highly recommend it. Such a better handling car

The drone was terrible! No sugarcoating it. I did a 4 hour drive once and it was horrible.

Because I basically have a similar setup now. Same style cold air intake, high flo cat, I don't have headers but I have gutted precats. I have stock muffler currently. It sounds quiet. I'm thinking it should sound pretty close to this? I'm a cheap ass though and if this is the top speed exhaust on eBay then I am buying it
Is the catalytic converter necessary on this setup?
what generic header do you recommend since you weren't so thrilled with the one you installed?
This is the only one I ever used, but I hear the PPE headers are good!
PPE header will require their midpipe as well, it doesn't have the same exit as oem

Car in garage now but buried under other stuff. It failed it's MOT couple years back and needs a bunch of stuff doing but I've never got around to it. One day....

I’m running this exhaust right now but heard it had trouble fitting into the magnaflow catpipe . Do they fit correctly ?
I didn't have any big issues, but like all custom exhaust parts it took some finegling to get it all perfect.

did you notice any diferent in sound with the magnaflow catalitic?
It was replacing a totally blocked up cat, so yes, but I'm not sure how well that compares to replacing a cat that still works.
Put a HKS 7460R and a Greddy bov and you'll have a monster, I have mine in that exact same setup xD

Pretty much! Fit was a little tough, but once I got it figured out it wasn't bad.
the only top speed exhaust I can find is titanium for the 2zz?
bro trust me the 1nz-fe, 2nz-fe, 1nxz-fe, 2nxz-fe, 1zz-fe and the 2zz-fe are all the same motor when looking for parts for them in the scrap yard you can see it so all those parts should work back to back once the part number is the same.
is it loud lol I got muffler deletes on my sti and thats not too loud..collecting parts for a 2zz swap
It's pretty loud. When I'm not on the throttle it's fine, but it doesn't have much power and highway speed is about 3700 rpm...I'm trying to figure out a silencer mod I could install for road trips.
Sounds awesome! How does it sound with the top up? I had a header and team moon on my last spyder and it was a little annoying with the top up!

Nope. I considered swapping in a 2ZZ when I replaced the 1ZZ that came in it, but I decided I'd rather put the extra money into handling upgrades, so I did that. For how I normally drive the car, the 2ZZ wouldn't have made that much of a difference.

I don't have pre-cats anymore, just the Magnaflow cat.
Are the pre cats only in the header or is it in the down pipe too?

What gains did u make in power
Realistically, probably no more than 4-5 total. It certainly doesn't feel like it pulls any harder, but I don't mind it at stock power. It feels slower now that I have faster daily driver!
