  • Check out my full review of the brand new 2024 Mazda MX-30 R-EV Plug-in Hybrid, with an all-new ROTARY (Wankel) engine acting as a range-extender hybrid. This responds to the previously launched MX-30 EV arguably having insufficient range at 125 miles. Full details and specifications of how it works, plus a look at the practicality, space, comfort, equipment and pricing, as well as taking it for an extended drive on a press launch across North Wales.

    How long before Rob Dahm starts stacking these rotors into a 4 rotor engine! Great to see Mazda not giving up on this engine, it's like nothing else.

    Nice review, thanks for the video. I had one of these for a day, the all electric, when they first came and I really liked it but the range was too short. Great quality and nice handling. Now this hybrid would really suit me as my day to day trips are under 40 miles and petrol for the odd long trip. What they should have done is to have made a family car with good rear seat room and a decent boot VW ID3 size and I would be in the market for one. I have an MG 4 and other than the boot not being quite big enough, it's perfect. That's where I think Mazda failed, with the size not that it's a hybrid.

    This is my favorite car now. Such a nice departure from all the bloated designs on thhe road. And with the rotary extender it's perfect.

      you need torque to run a generator , mazda lets put in a low torque engine, oh well it least wankle engines are reliable , oh well at least they are economical, oh well at least they dont polute ....doh..

    The brown material in the cabin is made of cork. The light grey door panelling is actually recycled plastic bottles hence the difference in colour you mentioned. Mazda interiors are beautiful and few other car brands come close. We have a 2023 CX3 S Touring and it's a gorgeous car that drives superbly. We'll wait to see how the MX30 fares this year. It's new after all and it's best to see what kinks still need to be worked out. It's not a good idea to buy a new model that's fresh off the production line until the glitches are sorted. Although this car has had its range extended, I'm not convinced it's the most efficient Hybrid out there....yet. Some tweaking will need to be done down the road (pardon the pun) to give both range and efficiency. Why Mazda ever introduced the original EV only version with such an unimpressive range is beyond me. That's my two cents.

    Great video, below what % SoC does the engine come on itself (assuming no harsh accelerating)

    Have Mazda finally found a use for the rotary engine that means the engine doesn’t wreck oil seals in a few thousand miles.

    The Prius hybrid can do to 60 in 7 secs and is a lot cheaper

    Poor specs but i like it (but not enough to buy it). Looked it up, the rotary runs at output shaft rpm of 4700 meaning the rotor turns at a leisurly 1567rpm... i just hope theyve given this one good lubrication.

  • @The-Salty-Bager

    I really can’t see the point, limited battery range, mpg that’s no better than a standard petrol car, plus the old rotary engine worries of high oil usage, oil seal problems and engines not lasting more than 70k.

    • @deansmits006

      Considering you'd likely not use the rotary during the week much or at all, just for weekly or monthly larger trips, and the fact that there's modern material science advancement, I would figure that it wouldn't be an issue. Instead of running 800-9000rpm daily, it's like 2500-4500rpm a few hours a week.
      That being said, all we have is the rotary history and time will tell.

    125 miles on battery?
    The 40 odd you were getting is like my Mrs CX5. But from.what I understand from your review one can get upto 125 miles from plugin charge? Not so good for London to Mull but not so bad for London to Arundel ... and back.

    • @BrownCarGuy
      @BrownCarGuy  8 місяців тому +3

      No 125 is for the full EV version. For this R-EV tested, it's 53 in EV mode only.

      This is primarily an urban commuter EV with a Wankel Rotary Extender which eliminates range anxiety. The Rotary Extender is also very handy for those rare long distance journeys - especially with that 50 Litre fuel tank.
      However, primarily, the designated modus operandi for this MX-30 R-EV is home charge it every day or two and run the Rotary Extender to get home if you run out of battery power.
      Please note the Rotary Extender will also charge the battery to full - or whatever percentage you program in (easily).
      This is an EV with a Wankel Rotary Generator that would normally be sparingly used in a city environment, but comes in handy for trips between cities.
      Of course, this will not suit every lifestyle, but it would certainly suit mine.
      If you have home charging, work charging and you mostly just commute in a city (I do 34 miles return commute per week day), then this is for you.
      I can totally live with this and would certainly buy one - it suits my lifestyle perfectly! 😊👍🏾
      Oh, and thank you BCG…..this is the best UK video review of the MX-30 R-EV I’ve seen so far….Live long and prosper!🖖🏾

    That rear door arrangement is very concerning. What happens in the event of a crash, where the front seat passenger and driver are both incapacitated, how do those in the back seat get out ??

    • @datathunderstorm
      @datathunderstorm 8 місяців тому +1

      This is an SUV Crossover Coupe. Coupe vehicles / 3 door vehicles have been with us for decades - and they’re still being made. Your question is pretty much a non issue - especially with the MX-30. Essentially, rear seat passengers have enough space to squeeze between the front seats, reach across the potentially incapacitated front seat passengers, and open either of the front doors - followed by the back doors.
      I would have thought this was obvious from watching the video.

    When you think that Mazda cannot produce something stupid& pointless they actually produce it like this junk here with shitty range,max speed and relative high price!! I think that Rolls Royce and Bentley will have higher sale numbers then Mazda with this junk
