53 yrs old and never brined a turkey because I thought it would make it salty. This thanksgiving I followed your recipe and the turkey was absolutely outstanding. Best turkey I’ve ever done and everyone raved about it. Thank you! Can’t wait to view more of your content.
Out of all the videos I’m watching bout turkey others making turkey 🙂↕️… but this is the one ☝️ this is the one !! Making it for the fam on thanksgiving .. my first time too, wish me luck 💙
I have never cooked a turkey but was asked by a friend to make one for our Friendsgiving. Looked for brines and used yours except I used white sugar. I brined in the bottom portion of a crab pot for 24 hrs. Then, I slathered a butter compote with rosemary and thyme all over the bird for another 24 hours. Ohhhh we, my friends loved it, and I was so proud. Now I'm being asked to make another one 😂.
This is your BEST video where you really explain everything and you're not using a turkey brine product that many can't find or afford. You told us all the ingredients we need. Just wish you'd say the actual measurements of the pot and the ingredients. But men don't usually focus on that stuff anyways.
Great video. My mom used to Brine her turkeys all the time for the holidays and I would help her out. Since she passed away my sister had been doing the turkey, but I'm hosting Christmas this year so I was taking the duty of brining the turkey. Your video is very helpful so that I can get an idea of what I was getting myself into. Much appreciation, sir. 😊
Let me tell y'all something!!! I followed these exact instructions and I will NEVER and I mean NEVER do it any other way, THE BEST turkey I ever had! It was juicy as h3ll😂 I will never go back to injection, I will brine everything I can from now on, thanks AB
Down here in the Louisiana we use half Tony chachrie Creole seasoning and half salt. Some use just the Tony's by itself instead of salt. Luv brining.. Great job..
I do salt, brown sugar, peppercorns, Orange, rosemary sprigs, and thyme. I will add bay leaf next time. I get a bag of ice and pour the hot brine over the ice. There is usually some ice that doesn’t melt. Put in the bird, add orange and herbs. Put in cool garage overnight.
Great recipe Ab! Brine is life. Ever since I brined my first turkey I have never looked back. The main reason for brining is to add moisture to the bird and make your cooking more forgiving to avoid getting that nasty dry turkey texture that you probably had in your younger years. Of course if you are infusing things in the bird you might as well impart some flavor in there. Brining will help your turkey no matter how you cook it afterwards (deep fry/smoke/oven/etc.) so give it a try.
I made my first brine today! I added sour orange, clementines, a red onion, mustard seeds, all spice, fresh Bay leaves, black pepper, Swedish Pearl sugar, 15 garlic cloves, rosemary, thyme and salt. I've been adding Ice on the hour (no room in the fridge) and the house smells divine!
Not to be too nerdy but you have to factor the water in the ice into your ratios for the brine. You can get varying degrees of salinity if you don't account for the water coming from the ice.
I've done brine before. I've waited 24 hours and noticed a little bit of a difference. This year, I tried your brine except I used pure maple syrup with it and also let it sit for 1 1/2 days. Boy oh boy! What a difference! I did notice a bit of saltiness, but not so much that it was a deal breaker. Came out juicy and flavorful. Best turkey I've ever done. Will definitely do again
I used your recipe to brine two turkeys last year. I will reduce it to one turkey this year, but I use the same technique. Placing it in my cooler. Thank you!
I found this video at the right time, I've never cooked a turkey before and this year we are doing a brine for the first time as well and I feel wayyy more confident tackling this now. Thank you AB!
Good stuff there! I use a 50/50 apple cider and water, salt, brown sugar, peppercorns, bay leaf, a knob of ginger, garlic, onions, oranges, Gochujang and a cinnamon stick. The Gochujang gives it an awesome colour and fruity flavour, with very little heat. Since it is just the two of us now, I spatchcock it and smoke it. I smoke my par-roasted root veggies during the last hour of smoking. Thank you for sharing! Happy Thanksgiving!
@@GospelOutside I usually do a 13lbs bird, and I use 1/2 gallon of cider and 1/2 gallon of water, double it if your bird is bigger, then I pile on the ice. I usually use 1/2 cup of gochujang. have a great Thanksgiving!
@@damien1781 With these powerful flavours going, the apple is not necessary in fact it will be lost, I focus on the citrus angle with this, a lemon or lime would accompany this wonderfully!
@@bdctrans70 yea I was thinking actually the same thing after I typed it. I have stuffed apples before last year when I made an Asian style turkey and it was so delicious.
I've been cooking for Thanksgiving every year since 2019 and this is the first year I'm actually considering brining I wasn't sure if it was a good idea or not but now that I see that you do it I am definitely going to do it it's an okay for me you're the boss when it comes to cooking
A b I’ve been brining over 30 years I have never boiled water I always used cold water kosher salt, white sugar ,ice is a must 10 hrs or over nite comes out juice & seasoned too the bone delicious
Thank You AB for printable recipes! It’s life changing for someone like me who’s trying to get it all right on such an important holiday as Thanksgiving. Believe me your recipes gives me some measure of confidence that all will turn out okay. Happy Thanksgiving AB and Thanks for such an Awesome Dynamic Cooking Channel. ❤❤❤
While buying my turkey lady told me her brining method....get a bucket from Walmarts bakery. $1.00. (18lb turkey). The top has rubber gasket, you pop it close, you have to pry that baby off. The ice to cool the hot brine, and put in bucket to keep cold, is great tip. Lol keeping that in the fridge.
I throw my frozen turkey in a cooler to "brine/thaw" on Monday before "the day". I'm def gonna use your brine mix! We also inject ours w/Tony T's roasted garlic & herb plus 1 stick of garlic butter and rub it with Tony T's, we rub it down, roll in saran the night before he smokes it! OMG so good!
Solid video. My brine is nearly identical except I add beer and then brine the bird in a brine bag (your zipper bag), stored inside a small cooler with ice.
Never done that I usually melt 8 sticks of better add my other ingredients rub turkey down after butter mixture cool put in a big plastic bag or roasting bag put in fridge then off set cook next day on grill I usually use jerk seasons not hot comes out amazing
AB ain't ever lied! Once you brine, you never want a bird seasoned any other way. I have people that don't brine or smoke meats, say things like, "everything doesnt have to be smoked to be good", as this can be true to alot of things, no, whole chickens, turkeys, seasoned and cooked in an oven, will NEVER be as good as a 24 hour brined bird, those are just facts.
When I tell you I love watching your videos! Whatever I have a taste for I come straight to your page for a recipe. Anyone ask me for a recipe I send them your way❤
I have never done this. I cook a lot, I've heard of it. But honestly AB. You never say never. I'm not! But my turkey DO not be dry. I continue to baste. I just haven't had that problem. I only cook turkey for the holidays & for the turkey salad. Enjoy! I loved the process. ❤️🐞😋
I brined my turkey legs in a Crystal Geyser gallon. Cut part of the top off, and put it back on after i added everything in. Saves on space and you don't have to buy anything. Even using that 2.5 water gal jug will work
I intended to get a brining bucket, but I didn't get a chance to. I got a big bag after seeing Malcom Reed brine a turkey, but i ended up just putting it in one of those disposable coolers and putting ice around the bag. I still have ice packs from when i ordered something from the butcher shop. I probably could have used those
Excellent A. B. man I'm buying a turkey tomorrow gonna definitely do this - I already brine all my wild fish, it's a game changer. Have a great Thanksgiving ❤❤❤❤
