The film made its international premiere at the 2012 Melbourne International Film Festival. The female lead was meant to be Gena Rowlands but her casting was opposed by the MEAA.
Australian actress Julia Blake, who portrays a Jewish holocaust survivor in this film called Ulah Lippmann, previously co-starred alongside Max von Sydow in the Australian film Father, where Blake played Iya Zetnick, a Lithuanian holocaust survivor woman protagonist whose aim was to expose World War II Nazi war criminal Joseph Mueller, portrayed by Sydow.
The film's screenplay was nominated in 2012 for an Awgie Award by the Australian Writers' Guild (AWG) in the category of Feature Film - Best Original Screenplay for its screenwriters David Pulbrook and Terence Hammond.
The production utilized a studio on Pakington Street in St Kilda, Melbourne in Victoria, Australia where the classic Ozploitation movie Alvin Purple had been filmed almost forty years earlier.
David Pulbrook said of directing his first theatrical feature film: "I loved the experience of directing. If you've got the energy and the will and all your marbles, there's no reason why you can't keep making movies.''
This Australian hostage suspense-drama about the kidnapping of a Jewish holocaust survivor was made and released almost thirty years after the earlier Australian movie Savage Attraction [The Christine Maresch story] which was the true story of a woman whose husband eventually reveals to her that he is an active member of the Nazi party.
The production submitted the film's screenplay to the Islamic Council of Victoria who in turn provided notes and feedback which were incorporated into the movie.
Director and co-writer David Pulbrook and DOP/cinematographer Lee Pulbrook are brothers.
The name of the German song that plays on the record player was "Es führt kein and'rer Weg zur Seligkeit", written by Werner R. Heymann (as Heymann) and Robert Gilbert (as Gilbert) and performed by Sein & Oskar Joost Orchester and Kurt Mühlhardt.

The world would be a much better more peaceful place if we would stop hating others that have different religious beliefs or who look different than we do. Beautiful well crafted touching story, as well as wonderful acting. We all need to learn to be human and to respect one another.

This was a beautiful film. It was amazing how they could each look past race & religion and just see the other person for who they were. He asked her questions that made her think and vice versa which gave them a better sense of each other. The dance at the end was so spontaneous and special. I subconsciously knew he was going to die but I was still shocked when it happened. Great acting by both actors. Thanks for sharing this movie.

Never ever did I expect this ending. Compassion, empathy, forgiveness given by this amazing woman who chose Peace instead of fear. If only we could all get along I believe God would give this world more time to exist. How sad that God has given us the Miracle of life and one day we will no longer exist bc so many cannot co-exist. The world and its people cannot get along. What a MIRACLE to be born.

Two excellent actors, great story one of the best movies I ever watched.
She found a son in a would’ve been terrorist and he was taken away from her despite her effort to save him. Lesson learnt is sometimes we have to give people a second chance and thought. It’s our duty to make people see the good in others

Very sensational story and the actors were great. The tension was very high at the beginning until the nevertheless the love of a mother melt away the bitterness from the young man. I didn't expect the Script Writer to end it this way. Very sad I cried 😩

The son of the lady was killing other terrorists and soldiers, not ordinary people in a mall, that's the difference. But I could't hear properly when the Palestinian explain why his family was killed - someone can help ? Israélien army doesn't "just" kill people for no reason.

Sad ending. I had hoped for a different turn of events. Maybe a change of thinking, the boy would be an activist for awareness of how everyone have gone through a unique or similar suffering and maybe preach love throughout the world.

There is something that always lingers in my mind. With Antisemitism, so much hate from Arabs against Jews and the claim the "river to sea" claim, where do people expect Jews to settle? what exactly does the world expect of Jews? Everyone needs a home and where to belong. Jews are people, they need a home of there own and Israel is there home. They deserve to have peace.
The reason Arabs hate them is because of the way they treat the Arabs. The Arabs are treated like 2nd class citizens in their own land, and have been for the last 76 years. The jews should go to Germany, plenty of room there. They should leave Palestine to the Palestinians.

I wanted him to live at the end, even though in the beginning I saw him as a terrorist. As the grew, I understood both of their griefs and struggles and lady showed such compassion for him inspite of what his plot was and how he could not carry out his mission to his own cultural belief. We are not serving the same God. The God of the Bible gave His only begotten Son Jesus to die for the sins of the world. The 'god' of Islam denies that Jesus is God's only Son and came as the Savior of mankind. Jesus is the only Way, the Truth and the only One that can give us Life and restoration back to God. Islam denies that Jesus is who He says He is, that He died on the cross for our sins and that He rose again on the third day. We can pray to 'god' 24 hours a day, but if we reject Jesus as our Savior then we are deceived and without salvation.
