1. Time-Saver Standards for Landscape Architecture by Charles Harris
I think this is the bible for every LA.
2. Architecture: Form, Space, & Order by Francis, Ching
and this is the bible for every designer!! I prefer the very old edition where he hand wrote all the letters in the book with architect's font.>.<
3. Image of the City by Kevin Lynch
one of my professor's favorite books, I found it pretty useful for us to understand Landscape Architectures around us.
4. Design With Nature by Ian McHarg.
the design philosophy how landscape architects are different compare to architects, or designer.
5. Landscape Architect: Sasaki Associates
the book that I always find some inspirations while flipping through the pages.

How could I forget Time-Saver Standards! you are spot on that book is exactly as advertised! this is a solid list! Image of the City is a great urban design book and his diagrams are kings in the schematic design phase! Thanks for sharing!
Agree with Nicolas' list and I'd add "Handbook of Landscape Architectural Constriction" by Jot Carpenter (1976), "Layout Techniques for Landscape Architects" by Gary Austin (1995), and "Landscape Architect's Portable Handbook by Dines and Brown (2001). Highly recommend "Design with Nature" got my copy signed by its author years ago, what an inspirational speaker that man was, wow.

Oh yea, I forgot one for you freehand drawing types, "Freehand Drawing and Discovery" by James Richards (2013). Mr. Richards also has online classes for freehand drawing. Remember, the person at the table who can sketch ideas on paper is the lead of the discussion.

Hi, @DesignItGreen, thank you so much to you and those below for these excellent suggestions. Our daughter will be a freshman next year starting her studies. I would like to get some of the books for gifts. "Site Engineering for Landscape Architects" -- you mentioned the 5th edition in your video. The 6th edition is currently available on Amazon for ~$80. Are the editions that different do you think? Would the 5th edition still be valuable? I would think so but I know nothing about the field (but learning!) Also, if you were starting way back at the beginning of your studies, (she still has about 6 months until she starts) which 2-3 of your five/those mentioned below would you want on your dorm room shelf? Would the above discussed textbook likely be on her academic booklist? Thank you so much for all your work assembling these videos and for your experience tested advice.
I would most likely wait till school starts as a lot of the books on the list will be required for the classes! 1 that I would recommend that sometimes isn’t part of the curriculum would be the digital drawing for landscape architects
