I deployed to Iraq 3 times between 2004 to 2013. We did tons of convoys, route clearance ops, and door kicking to find insurgents as well as many week long operations out in the field for more distant locations from the FOB. We never did a mission where we were looking for weapons of mass destruction, only RPGs and IED making materials. There never were WMD to be found, and so we didn't even look for them.

    • @0num4
      @0num4 11 місяців тому

My guys found old chemical mortar rounds (usually blister agent) from the Soviet era, circa 2005, but we never found large caches or the means to produce chem or bio weaponry.
Yes, there were WMDs, but they were mostly 20+ years old and of questionable effectiveness if employed by that point, as they do have a shelf life. Still, even a partially effective bio weapon can wipe out large swaths of population--not to justify our decisions in theater in any way.
I'm quite conflicted in the years since, in how I think of my time in the sandbox. My platoon was awesome, but our mission set wasn't clearly communicated to the lower enlisted and our efforts during the war seem to have been almost entirely moot after the fact. All of those utilities, power plants, schools, and refineries we kept safe would fall into ISIS/ISIL hands barely a decade later.
      Take care, brother. ⛩⛩⛩

The game is just biblical allegory, Venom is a literal sacrificial lamb as well as a deified being seperate from the Big Boss entity, but retaining the Big Boss persona in the same way that Christ and Anti-Christ retained the God persona but were seperate from the God entity
The whole theme of the game is literally "Sins of the Father" and that's not just in reference to David and Eli, who are also biblical allegory but like for a different part.
Every western school of thought and tradition stems from the cultural philosophy and sociological theory imparted by scriptures of the Israelites (and subsequently the Greco-Romans), simply by nature of having been one of the few works of written word that survived in a stable fashion let alone being a collaborative effort of a society throughout thousands of years, over multiple cycles of rising empires, warring tribes and nation-states, enslavement, exodus and dispersement, reintegration etc.
The point being that despite the nonsense of what is happening on screen, there is a passage from a 2000 year old book of history conflated with fable and myth that corresponds to it
Peace Day never comes because as long as humans have walked the earth, war has existed alongside it.

Your video essays not only led me to read Neitzsche, but to gain a total understanding of the difference between the graspable but ever elusive objectivity, and the all too prevalent and disguised subjectivity. Thank you.
Edit: Truth about war absolutely exists, Jorrin. To find truth, you need only look for what is replicable, nigh essential, in every instance. There may only be interpretations, but if some aspects of everyone's interpretations are universal and not bound by subjectivity, then they are the objective truths of the matter.
To paraphrase the game series we love so much: do you think love can bloom on a battlefield? Yes. Yes it can. And we all recognise it when it happens.

Thanks for sharing and doing such sleuthing. I just revisited mgsv moments before this video was uploaded. Found myself thinking more and more about the level of detail and attentions in the game from the well-aging iDroid UI, to different movement animations, to the camera, to the level design. This game has relentlessly lived within my mind since I first played and completed it. Interestingly enough, as I revisit it several times a year, I haven't experienced the same game every time I start a fresh save file or continue from a mid-game one. (I've only managed to make it to late-game upon my first completion and find myself restarting 1/2 times a year and I'm always finding a deeper yet new appreciation for the game amongst viewing it from a new lens every time.)
unlike any other game I've played, even previous titles within the franchise, this have a mental map and core abstract understanding and breakdown of the games in my mind, yet with mgsv, it resides in my mind like a real-life fond memory, constantly revisiting and seeing it from new angles but never truly being able to recapture the past, but my favorite game LoZ: OoT for instance, any number of subsequent playthroughs, I find rarely any new feelings or experiences, rather optimizations or present-fun. And with something amongst my favorite games of all times like MGS2, I find I just remember the past or 'refresh' the fun since the game is well-designed and in a "gray-box" representation would still be fun. (I.e 'VR MISSIONS')
    Again However,
MGSV just hits different. Only similar feeling I experience with another form of media I can think of is my favorite film 'Her' by Spike Jonze. Which grants me the tangential thought of seeing Hideo as both, truly, captivating manifesting video games as an art form as critically and emotionally engaging as his favorite films but also surpassing the medium in ways in which video games can only do.
But to your video, I hope you don’t mind me sharing my thoughts of MGSV I've had both prior to your upload and have become facilitated as a result of your video, but the fact that MGSV is becoming just as much as a culturally relevant and arguably more important form of media as MGS2 was, remains and continues to since its release in 2001. I feel like you made an interesting point, where the argument can be made that, just as it's release in 2001, MGS2 was very on the nose and hiding in plain sight (the player literally seeing Snake as Iroquois Pliskin and doubting Snakes survival on tanker plant since the media within the game, including colonel, telling us he's dead, and seeing 9/11 with our eyes but denying evidence presented towards us due to media and our US countries 'colonel' telling us what happened).
2015's MGSV plays with the vast amount of information it presents us with, gives us a goal, and allows us to disseminate 1-how to achieve goal for personal gain 2-engage in some multi-layered-faux-layer criticism of information being presented to us (since most of us experienced present day 'fake news' (including MGS2's multiple ruses (I.e raiden as snake, simulation, many fake news within game)) but also becoming insensitive to so much information as to adapt a fake popular-criticism of said information, as opposed to true personal critique, as a response from the layman to understanding that this news and information is subject to manipulation tactics)
MGSV, despite being set in a 'play' and setting prior to that of MGS2, was released literally much later and thus presented in a manner which reflected those present day paradigms. (HOMO LUDENS)--, (the games setting and characters are nothing but a stage and actors presented in the time of release for the players of that period and after) "for that's something a director/artist should do"
MGSV should forever live in our cultural zeitgeist just as much as 1984 and moby dick, and will only be more relevant and appreciated and recognized with the further passing of time.
Had to keep it as short and abridged as I could, hope you understand some of what I'm saying in relation to how I interpret your words and content. (I've watched every video in your channel several times for past few years. (For context))
Thank you, king. Keep it up.

i was so sad that mgsv didnt get to flesh out the africa portion as much as afghanistan in this way, as they couldve tied both real world conflicts (rhodesia & how they were supported jointly by south africa and israel) to other in-universe lore too such as raiden/solidus, frank jaeger and other more direct examples of children affected by war.

Metal Gears were the games of my childhood. As I’ve grown older my respect for them has increased expotentally for the messages these games convey.
Thinking back the only fault I can give them is the games stories being a mess filled with contradictions if looked all games together as one linear story… But this is not what MGS is about, the story of each game is only loosely based on the larger MGS universe and each game should be looked individually. Every game has their own story which is influenced by different ideologies and political views and the story of the individual game is written around a certain theme and the lore of mgs morphs a bit for each game for that game to make sense as itself but not necessarily as an ongoing story.
The fact that almost all mgs games were ampng the very best of their generation is also telling, these are not just games with great stories. Metal Gears have some of the best gameplay of all games, almost all of them have pushed the technology of gaming forward.
If this wasn’t the case the underlying meanings within the games would never been understood since much of those have been only discussed years after the games release.

What amazes me is that all this literary complexity, masterful allusions, adept commentary on the nature of war across centuries, the near-impossible feat of bringing to a close one of the most cryptic franchises in video game history. All of this is coming from a dude who hated every minute of it. How can somebody who winced every time his bosses told him to make yet another sequel to a franchise he mentally checked-out of years ago create something like MGSV? It’s just insane how talented Kojima is.

9:43 don't worry, most of ideas fly over my head, so i probably wont be getting indoctrinated 👍
Tho i love learning about the various conflicts MGS takes from the real world and mix and repurpose in different ways to tell its story,it is amazing the amount of details there exist in the games and how we can still talk about them today
