if leg locks hurt, it's pretty much too late, some amount of damage is being done to the ligaments of your knee. I blew up my left knee, whole gym heard it pop. tap early friends it's so important
aside from hip locks those usually hurt before damage is done, thankfully
I agree, tapping after you feel the pain is too late. I'd go so far as to say that as soon as your opponent has you in the heel-hook setup (or even is attempting the heel-hook), tap immediately
Straight ankle locks, toe holds, knee bars and outside heel hooks all hurt before you take damage. The inside heel hook is dangerous tho cuz you only feel tension before the damage occurs
How long for your knee to heal? Your story made me squeal.
John Danaher, Garry Tonon, Gordon Ryan,Nick Ryan, RyanHall
Poor Bernardo was living in a constant state of fear in this video, all in the name of demonstrating the technique to us lol
don't be a tough guy. tap! learn to be able to train again tomorrow.
Dean only has one of the best in the World at heel hooks lol.
Facts. No sense in getting seriously hurt over some bullshit
Love these guys. Love how Dean is learning Portuguese and the respect between them. Dean is a patriot and a beast! Bernardo is such a humble monster too!
Bernardo you have such a positive and smiling attitude!!You're great, greetings from Italy!! :)
Dean Lister one of the toughest guys there is has said it more than once don't train with people who are going to hurt you.
That looked painful in that position for so long. Love your videos Bernardo.
Dean Lister is a great teacher! He’s so detailed and patient.
Just experimenting with these techniques as a relatively new practitioner really helps expose me to all facets of the game. Love your videos!
Dean Lister could play Hellboy.
I mean that as a compliment.
If you have poor internal rotation mobility, these positions will hurt more so than otherwise. Bernardo is the first Jiu Jitsu competitor I subscribed to. I'm grateful he puts these videos out.
Thank you for the post. The leg knot is awesome
Dan Lister falando português foi d mais ..parabéns Bernardo... Dean Lister sem dúvida um dos maiores leg locker's d todos os tempos....oss
I love BOTH of these guys. Two of the best players and people in the sport.
great video (and all your others too)! thank you so much for making and posting them.
I’m un comfortable that he knows his boy speaks perfect English and then talks to him in Portuguese.
I Love Dean Lister man. That's my Dude. Trust him so much. Hope to meet him some day.
I got to train with Dean Lister in San Diego and I have all his DVD instructionals including his original ones.
I laugh at the comments. Just because Danaher or Cummings are not showing this the move is not good or trendy? Dean influenced Danaher to do footlocks in the first place! Find what works for you don’t try to copy or emulate certain grapplers!
Master Bernardo, these are some of the best videos on the net. Keep them coming please OSU
Awesome!!!! Thank you so much, Oss..
I always get nervous looking at heel hooks
Rooll Out watch Palhares
Me too
As someone with bad knees, I feel your pain!!
Its my favourite submission. Quickest way to finish a game and also finish a tournament.
@@ThePimpUnionsexy I get nervous just seeing his name
Dean is the man. Respect ✊
Awesome video, thanks
Became a big fan of Bernardo here.
great info
The hip facing tip is gold. Can you ask Dean for some tips from the 411 inside heel hook? I have a mean outside heel hook and mean inside heel hook from 50-50, but I don't really understand from the 411.
Bernardo smart to enlist Dean for this instructional instead of Rousimar lmao
Awesome.
Ossss
Huge honor for me
Kind of similar idea to the kimura/wrists relationship relative to the shoulder. High wrist on back then rotate. High ankle/smothered then turn or rotate.
Dean's lack of a neck is just plain scary!
Oh yea, he is also a leg lock master
GAMEOVER 🥋
I was lucky! I learned Sambo before Judo and BJJ and the black belts feared me!
This was in 1995!
hahah, Bernardo, I can see the worry on your face whenever Lister makes a move. XD
I understand why dean speaks Portuguese it's very fun especially in a foreign country.
SMARTTTT!!!
Dean I want that rash guard! I can't find it online, though 😞
I don't play with leg locks...heard wayyy too many horror stories. Tap the second they lock it in.
This guy gave Jocko his Black belt
Let's go slow to get you in this shot!!!!!!
got to edit Deans ramblings
The second I get in a leg lock I tap, I don’t mess with that stuff. Rather take an L than lose a leg.
You can't lose in training BTW
@@cherokeeoutlaw2.011 you can lose your leg lmao
@@AudioStep i understand what you are saying but you can't take an L in training...a loss is just a learning experience. But yes tap as soon as you,re in danger...leg locks are unforgiving
how do i get to that position
Now I cant have my revenge on that guy who stole my pen at 4th grade
W O W
Wow. 507 likes, 0 dislikes. Impressive
do heel hooks work with shoes on?
What about comprido? He was the first guy to win a major with a foot lock!
wow
Dean Lister is a human monster....
His striker is not that good but his submissions are tops
Leg locks can have scary effects. But, training them is not that scary. Introducing them should come early and in a controlled manner so injury can be avoided
Palhares brought me here
This is how Gordon Ryan submitted Nicky Rod 😉
It is muñeca for wrist
I'm a white belt and in my school they don't teach heel hooks, but I do watch a lot of UA-cam videos jiu jitsu techniques, so I was trying to show my dad what do jiu jitsu is all about so I put him in a heel hook and tried to finish it and he said he didn't feel anything, so I tried again and again and again to do the heel hook correctly on him without him resisting for like 15 minutes and still nothing, I don't know if she has very dense tendons and strong knees or if my heel hook is complete shitt, but I kinda lost faith in that technique
God I hope you're joking
Probably had the leverage wrong coz i dont train heelhooks but ppl tap to them when i demo them lightly
from the thumbnail, I thought for a second it was Jason Statham doing some bjj.
an opponent thats not very flexible ultimate game over would probably blow a knee out by itself. Thats a terrifying move lol.
Bernardo here is on 15 kg lighter than now
Dean can talk for hours
They are the anti giant and while no guarantees your chances of winning against a bigger stronger opponent are greater (Brock leaner) so lol it works 50% of the time all the time
Is that reaping or no
yes super reaping hehe
muñeca is actually wrist
6:15
Left leg goes above right leg, right leg goes under left leg to meet for the hold. Simply lock hands in a snake hold around the heel and slowly push back like an armbar
He’s definitely from Brazil because he is speaking Portuguese in English lol
OSSS
I'm sorry but what exactly is stopping him from escaping the first position? He literally made no adjustment 😂
Yup.......gay
I'm sorry I don't see Eddie Cummings in this video
Did Eddie Cummings win a ADCC title with his leg lock game??.....No!! #Next
yeh eddie cummings isnt on the level of leister mate
Cummings learned from Danaher, and Danaher admits Lister was the one who inspired him to attack legs in the first place.
the real problem is trying to settle on one 'best' leg locker in all of grappling. that is kind of ridiculous I mean there are a lot of varieties of leg locks. my heel hooks suck but I have good toe holds. so my leg locks run the range from sucking to being legit. obviously I am not on the level of being compared to these guys or best in the world or whatever but point is everyone is going ot have diferent things they are better at
You must love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. You must love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus the anointed is Lord! Repent and be baptized and believe the Gospel.
Dean lister just shave it off bro
the hair or beard? haha
The hair 😆
@@2petty28 i agree, I'll tell him. Funny you said this because he commented once that it is funny when men try to keep their hair for too long.
Jon Tucker don’t tell him that might be a touchy subject lol 😆
@@2petty28 ok, well he would prob find it funny though... maybe I'll just leave it between us though
High level footsies. Totally gay.
Dean trying to speak Portuguese kinda annoying..stick to the move
Click bait , I respect Lister but he is NOT the best leglock, foot locker grappler in the world.
So I am pretty stupid ?? If you attack his right leg then it goes under your left armpit and you get on your left hip ?? Does that sound right. I had 2 black belts both show me 2 different ways. Then in class last week a purple belt told me NO. He said the right leg goes under your right armpit and I am like very confused
David both are correct. One is an outside heel hook, the other is an inside heel hook.
Irresponsible to post heel hook vids! Some new practitioners could get hurt really fast or hurt someone else. This is something that should be shown in the gym only and to brown or higher. To you guys watching this video and dont know it is very easy to destroy your friends knees for life. If you decide to practice this BE VERY VERY careful and do not use this technique when rolling for a submission. There is almost no pain only a feeling of tightness in the knee and POP!
No offense man, but you are speaking as someone who has been conditioned by the scare tactic that BJJ has put out.. It is actually very responsible to put out instructionals on the heel hook.. A lot of BJJ have this idea that the heel hook is this incredibly dangerous technique and that "There is almost no pain only a feeling of tightness in the knee and POP!"... Believe it or not, that is because a lot of BJJ practitioners DONT KNOW HOW TO DO IT.. There IS a way to do heel hooks safely.. So that you feel pain BEFORE it pops.. Starting from the toes, to the ankle, and EVENTUALLY the knee... The way Bernardo was showing is the WRONG way to do it.. its when you ROTATE the foot side to side, is when they wont feel it but it will break.. If you do it like dean did here.. fall towards the foot, and use your lat to push his foot toward his butt, and pull UP on his foot, is when it becomes more of a foot lock than anything.. Its actually more irresponsible to NOT SHOW it, because you are allowing people to remain ignorant, which is the most dangerous thing of all.
My point is that this should only be shown in a gym by qualified instructors like the ones showing the technique in this video. Not on youtube where any knuckle head can view this technique while drinking a beer or smoking a lefty and apply it a few weeks down the road on a buddy. I know this guy is really good at leg locks and heel hooks etc but this is a very dangerous technique. Ive been training BJJ for about ten years now and have seen to many people get jacked up for life. UA-cam is not the place to teach Heel hooks ask any professor and i'm sure he will agree!
Let me just add that I was rolling with a 7 year 4 stripe blue last week " tough kid" that is 24 years old and he is all about the leg locks and heel hooks. He asked me to be careful because he had already torn his ACL and MCL multiple times because his gym taught these techniques to blue belts and up. I do agree that practicing these techniques and the defenses as a lower belt is definitely beneficial. But should not be executed when rolling by anyone lower that at least a purple depending on years in training. too many people these days are getting belts to fast and are still wet behind the ears.
Irresponsible to post swimming videos as some newborns might drown...
If you decide to practice this sort of techniques with no experience whatsoever nor basic knowledge of anatomy, you kind of deserve to have a broken leg.
@Barroso
It's irresponsible to have youtube entirely, too much tutorials all together!?
You want to go back to the stone age where so called advanced techniques were taught to so called advanced practitioners, and start the whole damn process all over again that the Gracies helped changed?
