Taylor is not after charts and awards anymore. She's making music that makes her happy instead of doing something that the critics demands. This is for the real fans, not the fake ones. :)
I'm glad that Taylor has made me discover such amazing artists and genre.I think this album will be a masterpiece and I'm looking forward to stream it. Guys let's make this album a wildfire.
I’ve wanted The National and Taylor to work together for over a decade. To the point of holding my phone up at their show with “Taylor COLAB??!” only wish that has ever came true.
i adore this song, the lyrics are basically telling someone you can't be together cause they're fucked up, but it is sung with an incredible amount of love. it's sung with the pain of not wanting to let go of someone but doing so for your own good, and miss swift has my respect for being able to give her voice this emotion
The singer has NOT left. The lyrics are are firmly present tense and talk about how they are being pushed away by the damaged person. But they are still here, trying to help.
I agree. Hence, “is it insensitive for me to say, ‘get your shit together, so I can love you.’” She is saying, I’m here, trying to love you, despite your mental health, so let me!
Maybe I'm overanalysing right now, but the line "I tapped on your window on your darkest night" is really intriguing to me. She could've said "I knocked on your door on your darkest night", but she didn't. And we all know that Tay is really good at using diction effectively. I think this line implies that the speaker knew what they were about to deal with. They could see or at least assume this person's state of being. When you knock a door, you are expecting someone, but you don't really know who exactly is gonna open the door for you. However, this speaker knows. They can see through the window that this person is not doing well emotionally and mentally, but they decide to ask to come in and stay anyway
beautiful analysis! i have a sneaky connection on this. in cruel summer (lover) she says " killing me slow, out the window, i'm always waiting for you to be waiting below " like she can see out the window for him. and when he did tap on her window, he knew it was a gamble knowing her state of mind- like this is joe's song for taylor as much as this is her song. it has a similar beat to long story short. it reminds me of the opening of closure- its been a long time, the shape of your name, still spells out pain- especially the way she sings the shape of you was jagged and weak.
@@shalakaj523 Thank you :D And omg, you made some great points and connections, I love your interpretations! I think this is a pretty constant theme with Tay's songs. She is always the more, for the lack of a better word, 'unstable' one, and Joe somehow manages to balance her (My waves meet your shore). Such a bittersweet love story :)
@@mahimasingh7119 She means that she can already see the end of the relationship. It isn't over yet, but it's likely that it will be. When that happens, she will be a part of that person's history.

I love what Aaron and Justin did to the songs in folklore and evermore. I'm excited to hear what it would sound like with their roles reversed with Taylor's❤
You have no ide how she is fighting her fake self persona "taylor swift" vs "Allison Swift" H ... please get yourself honest with yourself again. The answer 2 ur Q is "Love=Truth"
Taylor invented a new oxymoron. "future history" is exactly that. As a literature teacher I'm impressed. She doesn't just use figurative language she invents it! Wowza
Actually, she didn’t invent it. There is a kick ass rock band from Tampa called Someday Souvenir. Don’t get me wrong I love me some swifty but she didn’t invent that thought process. #somedaysouvenir
I did not say she invented oxymorons lol!! I had never heard that particular one, so if it had been used before, it's still a great example of figurative language and how to use it effectively. Her songs make it easier to teach. I guess you've never had to teach figurative language to young kids, but I have, and these are perfect examples to use. No matter where it originally came from.
idk why but this song feels like a conversation with yourself. the version of yourself that wants to progress and be better vs your past version that's been holding you back. i imagine singing this words in a mirror especially the parts: "is it insensitive for me to say 'get your shit together' so i can love you" "is it really your anxiety that stops you from giving me everything or you just don't want to?" "you fire off missiles because you hate yourself but do you know that you're demolishing me?" damn. this song really hits the spot. big red machine and taylor swift really did a great job on this one.
"Is it insensitive for me to say, "Get your shit together so I can love you?" Is it really your anxiety that stops you from giving me everything? Or do you just not want to?" just sums up my love life
Actually I don't know the exact meaning Cause I mean the person might be going through something but at the same time ik how hard is it to love a person like that.
Did you guys hear the siren at 1:27 ? "there was nowhere for me to stay, but i stayed anyway" Reminds me of an ambulance 🚑 🥺🥺 So subtle yet heart-wrenching.
it's actually for the next line. like when a place is bombed usually there are alerts so people can get away. the line says "you fire off missiles cuz you hate yourself" so the sirens alludes the the next line's term 'missile' it's quite clever
to me it always sounded like the opposite of That's When, since That's When is a duet as well, and it's about someone leaving for a while to repair a relationship. To me, Renegade is what happens after the person comes back :)
But can we talk about Taylor’s songwriting- I don’t think that anyone could ever write songs like she does, the lyrics is just amazing and I have no idea how she comes up with those lyrics. She is made for songwriting-
I love that this could be sung to a partner going through it and not able to open up, but it could also be a song sung to yourself while in the midst of a deep depression. A new favorite song. As someone who grew up listening to Taylor, Bon Iver and the National, I will never get over how perfectly the three of them were able to work together. The songs and lyrics are just superior!
THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I THINK! Been dealing with depression for years now and my brain is torn in half, one half tells me the "insensitive" things and the other, well, is struggling. i think the narrator loves the person, they just want them to open up. you are so right
this might be one of the saddest lyrics taylor’s has ever written. it’s really devastating when you’re ready to willingly to give all of you to the other person but they’re just not on your level of commitment and want. so you stay for a moment, even if deep down you know it’s not gonna work, even if there’s no space for you, holding that tiny peace of hope with all that you’ve got but… turns out they really have to get their shit together so you can give and receive true love. so you walk away. and the understanding that it’s out of love and respect for yourself is liberating
Totally I had a relation that was exactly like that years ago and the best thing for me was to end it! It is sad but I was hurting myself more than I felt loved.
Yeah, the line 'Is it insensitive for me to say get your shit together so I can love you' is the kind of thing that you feel but don't think you can ever express. I think it also works for people dating people with depression or something, where they'll never 'get their shit together' because it's a long-term illness and they'll have their good and bad days, and sometimes you just want them to be happy so you can have good times and love them but then they're just sad all the time and you can't say anything about it cause it's not their fault and...yeah.
I have seen The National 3 times, Bon Iver 4 times, and Taylor Swift 3 times. My 3 favorite artists unexpectedly deciding to collaborate has been thrilling. I can’t thank Aaron, Justin and Taylor enough for the beautiful music that made this year on some level bearable.
@@shalakaj523 Yes I am very fortunate to have seen my favorite artists! I’ve been going to concerts since 1999 so at some point you just end up seeing everyone haha
I know is song is supposed to be about a loved one, but this is such a perfect song to describe my own mental state. I could sing this song to myself and it would still make sense.
Renegade is perfect and I can't remember the last time a song has spoken to me on this level. The lyrics? The melody? THEIR VOICES TANGELING TOGETHER IN THE END??? *chef's kiss*
The worst thing is that today they’ve published an interview to Lana del Rey and she’s confirmed that Taylor really wanted her to sing the second verse but she’s the one who decided to only do backing vocals, so they’ve been calling Taylor all kinds of shit for absolutely no reason, as usual.
A few years ago, my English teacher made us analyze Out of the Woods as a pop quiz 💕 , but she omitted the author and title. ( i didn’t know it was a Taylor song back then 😂)
My last relationship was exactly like this. I gave more than I physically and mentally could to a boy I never even thought I would ever talk to, only because I loved him and yet he broke, played, abused and manipulated me. Sometimes the more you want to support someone, the more they take you for granted. They diminish your image in your own eyes so you stick around forever. It was like I was in this trance until someone actually snapped me out of it. So, yes support the ones you love, but not to an extent that you completely erase yourself please
This song spoke right to me. I met a wonderful woman and I love her six year old son too. I mess up everyday because I suffer from PTSD from being a medic in the ARMY but I WANT to be everything they need and I have been making great strides in that direction. I’m gonna listen to this everyday for a while for motivation. Great song, thank you to the artists.

I’ve wanted The National and Taylor to work together for over a decade. To the point of holding my phone up at their show with “Taylor COLAB??!” only wish that has ever came true.
This is so real in relationships. As much as you love them no matter how damaged and lost they are, you need some loving back too.
Truth hurts.
Absolutely! I don’t know how story ends in this song but I am enjoying it anyway.
Wow this deserves more likes 👏🏼❤️
I like your comment omg
Thank you all so much 💕
i adore this song, the lyrics are basically telling someone you can't be together cause they're fucked up, but it is sung with an incredible amount of love. it's sung with the pain of not wanting to let go of someone but doing so for your own good, and miss swift has my respect for being able to give her voice this emotion
They can see through the window that this person is not doing well emotionally and mentally, but they decide to ask to come in and stay anyway
ua-cam.com/video/BxI2whLbtlk/v-deo.html
Omg yess
Beautiful
beautiful analysis! i have a sneaky connection on this.
in cruel summer (lover) she says " killing me slow, out the window, i'm always waiting for you to be waiting below " like she can see out the window for him. and when he did tap on her window, he knew it was a gamble knowing her state of mind- like this is joe's song for taylor as much as this is her song.
it has a similar beat to long story short.
it reminds me of the opening of closure- its been a long time, the shape of your name, still spells out pain- especially the way she sings the shape of you was jagged and weak.
Such a bittersweet love story :)
how heavy the lyrics are.... I love how they wrote a song in this perspective. A spectrum of love, that is realistic, damaging yet it flourished.

they told me all of my cages were mental so i got wasted like all my potential-
You have no ide how she is fighting her fake self persona "taylor swift" vs "Allison Swift" H ... please get yourself honest with yourself again. The answer 2 ur Q is "Love=Truth"
the more i grow up, the more i realize this song is a conversation with myself.
And both foreshadowed "So Long, London"

Hi i just started an album cover drawing channel
I wouldnt mind your support😁
She has a song called “Breathe,” and you still spell it like breath?
Same I wouldn’t be here on earth without her lol
Taylor invented a new oxymoron. "future history" is exactly that. As a literature teacher I'm impressed. She doesn't just use figurative language she invents it! Wowza
Dua Lipa had " future nostalgia" first
Actually, she didn’t invent it. There is a kick ass rock band from Tampa called Someday Souvenir. Don’t get me wrong I love me some swifty but she didn’t invent that thought process. #somedaysouvenir
It's not really new?
But ok
I did not say she invented oxymorons lol!! I had never heard that particular one, so if it had been used before, it's still a great example of figurative language and how to use it effectively. Her songs make it easier to teach. I guess you've never had to teach figurative language to young kids, but I have, and these are perfect examples to use. No matter where it originally came from.

this might be one of the saddest lyrics taylor’s has ever written. it’s really devastating when you’re ready to willingly to give all of you to the other person but they’re just not on your level of commitment and want. so you stay for a moment, even if deep down you know it’s not gonna work, even if there’s no space for you, holding that tiny peace of hope with all that you’ve got but… turns out they really have to get their shit together so you can give and receive true love. so you walk away. and the understanding that it’s out of love and respect for yourself is liberating
ua-cam.com/video/BxI2whLbtlk/v-deo.html

THIS ONE .
