If anyone is wondering. Billie Joe Armstrong entered rehab for alcohol/drug issues and they had to cancel a headline spot at a festival. Green Day reached out to Metallica and they said they would cover the spot (both bands are good friends and also both bands especially James hetfield has had rehab in the past and also since this video. )
It's not a sound check , it's a tribute to green day , their frontman went into rehab and cancelled a show , metallica filled in for them and this is that very show . Both bands are close friends .

Everyone’s picking on Lars but James butchered the riff too 😂 it’s choppy as heck and he isn’t doing the open strings section just the power chords. Just goes to show you that stepping away from your comfort zone can make anyone look like an amateur even if you’re as good as James is.

Billie for years has been playing a bit of masters of puppets. I’ve seen them twice and in addition to playing so much of their own material they somehow managed to throw in a covers competition featuring tequila and then a full cover of an operation ivy song both times. Maybe sometime they’ll put some Metallica back in their set
