  • Join the Head Ball Coach, Steve Spurrier, for a morning's chat at his new restaurant in Gainesville with Mark Schipper of 5th Down College Football. Spurrier and Schipper toured the restaurant's vast memorabilia collection and talked about the coach's life in the sport and a little bit of the history he has been a part of over the years.
This is a conversation you will enjoy no matter what team or university you root for because the Ball Coach, as a consequence of his massive success, his innovative approach to offensive football, and his clever, quip-heavy sense of humor, has transcended all traditional boundaries to become a man for all allegiances. He is one of those rare true legends of the game . . . . .
Please hit the subscribe button on the 5th Down channel and drop your email at the project’s website, www.5thDownCFB.com, to sign up for the weekly newsletter. The newsletter keeps subscribers abreast of developments with Schipper's forthcoming book on the important place college football occupies both in American history and culture. Thank you!

Legend. When I was walking to the mech engineering building at UF, I routinely saw the Head Ball Coach on his run.

Appreciate that, Jason. Thank you for watching. This is all part of a big CFB book project I'm in the middle of. Hope you'll leave your email at the website. I get your perspective on Coach Spurrier. Florida is very fortunate to have someone like that in the middle of their program. Legend of the game.

What a great interview! It was like some of the Gator gatherings he would come to speak at, like in Orlando. SOS is a national treasure! Great job again! Had fun watching!

This man is a legend, the ole ball coach. I came of age watching him coach the gators. The Fun n Gun was beautiful. It birthed all the spread offenses you see today.

Only Spurrier would lament about not scoring 60 on a lousy team thirty tears later. He will always be the greatest gator.

Props and Respect to "The Believer." The last of a Dying Breed that played and coached when Football was still a "Man's" Game.

Yes, he's nearly 80 years old and can have any number of ailments or side effects from medication. His mind, however, is incredibly sharp, which I am sure most in his age group can't claim (not even the current prez)! We should hope to be as alert and coherent when (or if) we live that long! Great coach, a true legend!
