Batesy, I really enjoyed this Spurrier tribute. It was solid and enjoyable for non Gators (my wife!). I was a Miami Herald/St. Pete Times stringer when he played. On thing you may not know: Before the world called him Old Ball Coach, we referred to him as a player by his middle name. Do you know it? His initials are S.O.S. Also, do you know the story of the guy (#10) who held the ball when Steve beat Auburn with that field goal? Maybe you've heard this: "There's no defense for Larry Rentz" ...

Love the paintings, sorry, only have a few large cups from the Swamp, "Head ball coach called the swamp and we've been chompin ever since" Batesy, ur are a Gator Legend. Nobody has left their mark on Florida on and off the field. "Sugar Bowl"

Steve Spurrier offense is really a Basketball/Football cross over! In Basketball you want to draw player out to open up the inside or have them attack inside to open outside. Your strong side wide out runs a cross over the middle to draw the defense in than the weak side wide receiver runs a deep post. high low attack.

"When asked about the criticism he received for allegedly running up the score, the Gators coach, Steve Spurrier, replied, 'It ain't my job to stop me.'."

Running up the score in football is TRADITION. Go back to Box Scores 110 years ago, Fielding Yost, Pop Warner, Knute Rockne, it's 68-7, 73-0, at least 1/5 of their games are 40 point beatdowns. Now, you HAVE to keep scoring, if you barely squeak by your opponents you'll end up out of the top 5-10.

Im SO Sick of sore losers calling it a travesty. PLAY THE GAME ALL 4 QUARTERS. You're supposed to just quit running your plays, bench all your starters who waited and trained so long to even BE starters... because you're doing too well? Turn off the game or go home if you're being killed, but fans of winning team deserve to watch 4 quarters of that team DOING what they DO. Because its fleeting, bad seasons are coming for every team. PLUS: We fans make sacrifices the rest of the week, just to have 3.5 hours free to sit and watch football on weekends. LET THEM PLAY THEIR BEST Damn it.
