Teardown review: new Craftsman brushless impact driver from Lowe’s - is it a DeWalt clone?

- I previously tested the performance of this Craftsman CMCF820D2 impact. Now, we’re going to tear it apart to see how it’s made. I'll look at this tool to see if it may be related to the DCF887 brushless DeWalt impact.
Check out my earlier review of this Craftsman impact here: • Review: new Craftsman ...
Did you miss my initial review of this impact? Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/sOagC6iT4Ic/v-deo.html
Just an fyi current price at lowes with 2 batteries is 129.00. So price has come way down
Lg makes the cells same as Samsung
Upgraded from an older 18v kit. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.
This guy must be AVEs calmer and less offensive cousin
Hahahahaha nice
i could have gone for a couple of more dick jokes
So the Canadian version of AvE?
Wait a second...
I think it’s the guy from kite army
should be a crime to export most of your work overseas. more interest should be brought to this or equal to interest in immigrants. so we dont care when the rich are exporting our jobs? only when the poor want jobs?
Worth the money. Glad I bought the entire set. Totally worth it. Will emerge as a leading brand as they take over market share with the lower price points. I guarantee it. Wait 5 more years. Craftsman brand is on the up and up! Buy them.
My new favorite channel. Your wealth of knowledge is very refreshing. Let the binge watching begin.
ive taken apart and fixed a plethora of dewalt brushless inpacts/drills etc
and this has the same exact motor/switch combo and impact mechanism as the dewalt
I have the whole craftsmen line of tools and these are great tools no complaints
its safe to say that im happy sears sold the brand. they were killing the brand. another wonder vid! glad i clicked the bell
Thanks for the kind words.
Of course there's nothing worthwhile to Craftsman now.
There's nothing to the brand. Sears just sold a recognizable name. There are no craftsman factories.
most of the craftsmen stuff is cheap trash
@@skliros9235 They are building a Craftsman Mechanics Tool Palnt right now in Forth Worth Texas, so that's about to change 😀. I know the v20 power tools are being built in South Carolina right now. SBD has something like 40 or so factories in the US already. Follow Craftsman's Instagram!
Your videos are always outstanding. Thanks for explaining everything plainly and showing us how everything works. Thumbs up!
I had a 20v Craftsman Pro drill and impact driver, uses lithium batteries, they were made in 06 and they still work great till this day. I gave them to my brother and went with Milwaukee because they weighed a ton, but they're still kicking after 13 years. Pretty impressive for cordless tools with original batteries.
I see a new video from " Tool Teardowns " video gets a thumbs up before I even watch it, good job guy.
Thanks for the kind words.
I got lucky and saw this on clearance as a combo. The drill n impact driver with two 2ah batteries, charger and bag. Was a super deal and no brainer. $49 bucks!!! Got 10 of them n will be gifting them to friends n families. Best gifts for the price!
The battery case is PC/ABS, not ABS. That's polycarbonate and ABS, very tough, and used by almost all major tool brands on the battery case.
no glass fiber though
I'm a Canadian and have, in the past, been a big fan of "AvE" (a Canadian based in Kamloops who many will recognize his channel) but I've tired of him and his politics and have a difficult time watching any of his videos nowadays. SOOOOO, I'm very happy to have come across your channel. Cheers!!
Fantastic review! This, and AvE are my two favorite channels on UA-cam! You both do fantastic jobs, and are both very knowledgeable of the presented information! Thank you for not swearing in your videos, I like your videos more than his because of that.
Those batteries, in my opinion are Samsung...
Me too. It's people like this that hopefully will help consumers be more informed and manufacturers more vigilant in selling better quality products.
Thanks for the kind words.
I like this channel for straight forward reviews, this reviewer is easier to understand and uses plainer language. I like AVE for when I'm in the mood for a more colorful experience. Project Farm is a great channel as well. I think these three are the best channels on UA-cam in their category.
Nah son ave has flavor.
Oh come on pull up your pants. Mommy he used bad words it hurt my fewlings. People cuss stop trying to encourage censorship. AvE is fine so is this guy.
Been using one or these almost daily at work for a few months now. Been good so far.
Good to know we're making (or at least assembling) things in the USA again
I remember feeling proud about owning a set of Craftsman tools. Made in America, lifetime warranty, yet they were affordable. Now Craftsman just sells the name to other tool manufacturers
@PC Police -Q That's good to hear. I still have a lot of Craftsman mechanic tools. When they break or if I need a specialty tool I go to harbor freight because I can't go to the basement of Sears anymore. Harbor freight has some decent ratchets and breaker bars that have a lifetime warranty. Unlike Craftsman I am not a proud owner of harbor freight tools, I am just a owner.
Thank you thank you thank you I love your way how you do it you speak slowly and correctly your microphone is perfect I loved every part of your video thank you again
Excellent video. Please do more videos like this next time.
Great video. Teardown videos are always fun. Thanks.
Looks like SBD made a new battery design for Craftsman.
Usually, all the tools from SBD used one of two battery designs, and compatibilities were only blocked by some plastic tabs on the case.
But that battery actually has different design. Connectors are placed with wider interval.
I think that could mean SBD is putting some good amount of effort on Craftsman lineup.
Craftsman is better than what it was. I bought the new angle grinder and it’s tough. Craftsman is back for good. Not to mention the Versatility of the brand. I mean cmon they even build Lawn Movers and Generators. Plus their New tool line has alotta of stuff that older Brands don’t have. They are watching where they step and watching their back. Craftsman is up to par now. The brand was just dying with Sears. Lowe’s gave it Life! I’m buying everything Craftsman Good quality for a good price can’t beat it!
Danny Boy D-Boy Lil D labrada I agree. I bought their entire line. Great buy. Great quality. Can't beat it for the price.
I do not believe you feel this way I think you are somehow invested in Stanly
@@coreyho6578 I wish I was invested in Stanley lol
Used to be a huge Craftsman fan when I was younger, then had a few bad experiences and stopped buying Craftsman, was hesitant to buy this impact but couldn't be more pleased, this tool blows most others away, and for the price difference DeWalt can kick rocks, Craftsman user for life.
The battery pack appears to use the same Chinese off-brand cells, similar to Black + Decker 20v line. It is worth mentioning hat they also use the same battery management circuitry. For what’s its worth, the new Craftsman line is also compatible with B&D and Porter Cable 20v batteries but need to be modified by removing blocking posts on the packs to allow the pack to attach.
So the supposed premium brand uses batteries from the budget brand. Pass.
Yep the internals look similar to my Porter Cable 20v. It failed after less then a year.
pospc2 this impact hasn’t even been out for a year. 🤣🤣
@@ajgreen868 was meaning the battery pack not the impact. No idea what the inside of my actual impact looks like, only the battery pack
pospc2 gotcha. My bad man
The battery cover is pc/abs this is very strong.
The mechanical specifications for PC-ABS include: Tensile strength: 5,900 psi. Tensile modulus: 278,000 psi. Flexural strength: 9,800 psi.
Thank you for your time and effort in your informal video on this item.
I'm 90% sure those cells in the battery packs are Samsung SDI INR18650-20R judging by the color of the insulation
High quality as far as I believe. And assembled here is a bonus.
Nice breakdown and great info, thanks
I have the yellow version craftsman called the Stanley FatMax v20 impact Driver basically they're the same driver just different colour
Yeah dude i got this with the brushless hammer drill, somewhere around 3 years ago, i work with them a lot and ive dropped them and the batteries pretty hard, and from tall ladders even, and they still going strong. I used to work with a guy that only got dewalt so I’ve worked extensively with both and honestly there wasnt a notable difference, other than the quarter inch of compactness. Im one of those crazies that extensively compares things too and honestly ive seen Milwaukee’s and Dewalt’s high end brushless drivers crap out with in the time ive had my craftsman’s and not even under heavy use which is exactly what ive put mine thru i mean I used the hammer drill to drill, probably about 150 holes in concrete and brick in 2 days. These drills are a great example of how you need to do your research
Love a teardown!!
Great video! The teardown is so informative. Thank you.
Thanks for the breakdown. Very enlightening. May now buy a Craftsman since it is really the DeWalt incognito.
I would think those dovetail slots would be more expensive in terms of tooling opposed to through holes. They must save on rubber material with a smaller shot size for it to be worth that extra complexity. Interesting design decision.
I own most of the newer Craftsman v20 tools. I bought them through sales at lowes and some good deals on eBay. I previously used the C3 stuff. This new stuff is pretty good no problems yet. I was able to get all this cheaper than DEWalt. I am impressed with the battery life. My complaint is I wish they had some more tools available .
Lowe’s has huge Craftsman selection, Amazon has okay array of it, and Ace sells some too. Pretty good prosumer or homeowner grade tool lines, notably the V20 line for power tools. Competes with Ryobi and seems to generally edge them out in quality, albeit with less quantity.
I use craftsman power tools in hvac and I have used and abused both hammer drill and impact and they are by far my favorite yes it’s down on power by 10-15% but in my field I don’t need that 10-15% more and it’s cheaper and have really great warranty’s
For $150 I'd be buying a Makita or a Milwaukee.
mattorama I’d get the craftsman. It’s pretty well built.
Milwaukee
@@jeffscomp We have no idea how it's going to hold up in the long run, because it's brand new. Dewalt, Makita, Milwaukee, you know you can count on them.
Dewalt or Milwaukee. Makita used to be good, at my last job the Makita 18volt tools didn't last. We may get 3 months out of them. The older NiCad set was un beatable. I have a set of DeWalt's Impact and hammer drill that have now hit 7yrs old. I haven't had an issues. Milwaukee has also earned a solid reputation.
Ryobi for its excellent range of tools that use the same battery
ABS isn’t always brittle. Car bodies are mostly ABS these days and they are very flexible. Heck, every street-legal sport bike uses ABS fairings from the factory except for the the really fancy ones with carbon fiber like Kawasaki uses on the Ninja H2 or the golf ball stuff Buell used to use.
i like the concept tool teardown good on you
That’s 2 of 2 craftsman drills I’ve seen taken apart that had assembly issues straight from the factory. They seem to be lacking in the quality control area
I'd really like to see a teardown/comparison between Craftsman brushless and Kobalt Brushless to see who wins the battle of the Lowe's entry level. Any chance you'll do that, I really like your approach.
I know I’m a bit late to the game but I think I can answer a little bit about why the battery is lower quality than the tool itself. In this instance I believe with it being a combo pack of the tool and battery it’s likely the case that the tool was built to a much higher standard as craftsman try’s to improve and meet the standards of there community, where as the battery at overflow and build in bulk from a 3rd party manufacturer. It’s a mixing of new standards and off the shelf parts. Same reason we still get the bags and not much better built cases. They are pushing out old stock and making room for better built products.
Everything should be made in the USA

Your video is very good, congrats and continue with more valuable videos
Great tear down. Well explained and clear video. I'll sub. I gave up on Crapsman a few years back. Used to be a great company and I bought a ton of their tools. I am not a fan of DeWalt either. I purchased a bunch of the first 12v and 18v tools and didn't have much luck with them.
Hm. Everything has a limit. Maybe you exceed limits a lot. Even the best made tools/equip will break down after daily extreme routines and working conditions. And the added overuse can stress them out in the field over time. I am a retired professional Landscape maintenance business owner and I’ve spent tens of thousands of dollars over many many years with even the best names (Still, Echo, Honda, Husqvarna, Toro etc) wearing down and then breaking down even with regular maintenance and service, so…
@@martygreen3145 No I think I attribute a lot of the failures to all the technology new cordless tools are much better than they were in the NiCad battery days My old DeWalt tools literally shook themselves to death.
@@foxwood67 Oh ok.. I went back and re-read it, 😂. I gotcha man.
But yeah you are certainly right about that. I a way technology is better but at the same time it is an agonizing crutch! 😂.
Good Looking out!
I believe that grinder armature is actually a universal motor. I think it would run on D.C. Voltage as well.
…and now there is the Craftsman CMCF940 which is a rebranded DeWALT DCF899 half-inch high-torque impact wrench that somehow even outperforms the DCF899. Of course, now DeWALT has a new DCF900 half-inch high-torque that beats everything but getting last year’s DCF899 performance for less is still a good thing.
I got this in a package with a brushless drill for 150. Not the 99 package and two batteries with charger it was a great deal for something with dewalt guts!
Looks like an excellent brushless impact driver! I would like to see he same teardown on the Ryobi brushless impact driver.. Thinking of buying a Ryobi combo kit as they have loads of great deals right now.. Great video! Thanks!
Ray B. I have owned the Ryobi combo kit for almost 2 years, impact driver is a excellent tool I worked it's butt off and it just keeps going. The drill/driver is a good tool also. I bought mine at Home Depot, it was on sale for 99 bucks well worth the cost. I just bought the 'impact/ drill driver combo as I already own all the other battery tools from Ryobi.
@@huntnwabbits8150 I believe it just want to see it torn down and see how it stacks up to the competition.. Great deals going on Ryobi right now!
If you get the Ryobi, get the 3-speed version. I have both of their brushless impact drivers and the single speed has too much torque for just one speed, plus it is difficult to control the trigger.
@@Pro1er thanks for the tip! Will see exactly what comes with this combo set..
Last winter I bought the three speed brushless impact that Ryobi offered. I believe it’s still their top impact. After using it almost daily throughout this year, I think I’m ready to upgrade. The tool itself is an ample performer and can keep up when put against the big brands; however after using a coworkers dewalt three speed brushless for a period, the difference in quality is quite noticeable. The best way I can describe it is that the dewalt was much more trigger sensitive and refined feeling. It just feels more reactive and solid altogether. That all being said, if you’re on a budget or want to feel like you’re getting a good deal, Ryobi will get you there. I’m going to keep mine as a back up.
Dude! That Red and Black Craftsman looks Bad-A! Owned by the same SB&D. Nearly identical internals. Price is significantly lower than the Commercial marketed DeWalt.
Even though the Pro’s typically buy DeWalt, Milwaukee, Markita etc, for the home consumer (great/better warranty to go with it) the Craftsman is the deal man.
Craftsman is selling like hot cakes at Lowe’s and online I read too, so yeah…
You seem like the perfect guy to answer this question. In your opinion, for performance and longevity, would safely removing as much grease as possible, and replacing it with the best available, compatible grease, be a good idea? I've always been a fan of premium lubrication, and a 3 decade user of Amsoil products whenever possible. I never really thought about lube other than for vehicles and trailers. I recently replaced the grease on a 90 tooth ratchet, right out of the box, and used Super Lube. It was simply amazing how much better it was. I have noticed, especially on Chinese made products, they always skimp on the quality of the lube. Even for the more expensive professional grade tools and products. Not sure why a few more pennies would hurt them, but apparently it does.
Apparently he wasn't the perfecvt guy because 2 months later he still has not answered your questions.
LMFAO
I was glad that Stanley\Black&Decker is now making craftsman power tools, to be honest over the years black and decker has offered one of the best products anyone could buy at lowest costs possible and they last almost just as long as some of the other higher priced tools. Dewalt as we all know is top notch equipment. And now craftsman is finally stepping back to some more reliable and expensive tools. Then Lowe’s started selling craftsman tools too it’s hard to be caught at the Home Depot buying Husky junk. Makes me sad I have some nice Husky pro tools from years back that we’re great. What they sale now is not even up to par with what a 6 year old kid gets in a toy tool kit.
Good job
I'm a SBD and Craftsman fan. I'm getting this soon.
PC/ABS
Polycarbonate mixed with abs gives it strength but I’d still like to see it have glass fiber mixed. Either way ABS plastic has no business being used for tools.
This tear down video is like an AvE BOLTR from an alternate universe, without all the F-bombs. 😅
Nice honest review!
old post I know 😔as a DIYer. I'm sorta impressed with these newer Craftsman tools. there's a nice pool of knowledge coming from Stanley Black & Decker my question is how long will the platform last? and maybe some of the shortcuts are the batteries. I can't tell you how many exploded (broken case )DeWalt batteries I've seen at work I think they use ABS as well. wrap them up with some tape keep on working 😉. now I want to see some holiday deals 👍 I also don't like that you really have to replace the entire guts to fix it or throw it away and buyI just like repairing a switch if it needs a switch not tossing the whole thing 😕
That was the important thing for me as well when buying tools, the longevity of the platform. That’s why I initially went with Ryobi, but as I needed more powerful tools I bought into the DeWalt 20v lineup and it worries me too the battery platform won’t be around long either.
No little chickadee, no cursing, no French. no singing, not springin' sproingin'... 6/10 would watch again if really bored.
It's a passing grade. I'll take it.
I bought the combo to work on industrial and commercial projects for a company and so far everyone on my job site was impressed with the brushless impact and drill. However the Sawzall and circular saw are crap the motor burns out on the sawzall and the plastic on the circular breaks easily
Thanks for the review of this Crapsman tool.
your good at what you do
The Craftsman seems like a good impact, but for similar money I'd choose Milwaukee (preferably), Ridgid or Dewalt, especially right now since they're all on sale for the holidays. They're well established brands that have much larger tool and battery lines. The new, brushless (non-Fuel) Milwaukee impact driver and drill driver combo kit with two 2ah batteries and a Packout case is $199 right now at Home Depot. The impact driver does not have 3 speed settings and is a little less powerful, but it's still a solid performer.
its basically a dewalt/porter cable though made by SBD
As best I can tell this is a Dewalt 787 in a red Craftsman clamshell
I Love your review and more importantly the comparison. Sub'ed. We'd loved to see a some shoot outs with Yellow, Blue or Red. This would probably help people to decide if this 2nd tier tool is good value.
Thanks. That's a good suggestion.
Should I buy it? Well if I am using this tool daily in my business, I would say no. Go with the Makita or Milwaukee. If I am using this tool less than daily for my business then yes because it is built well. If I am using this tool as a DIY or homeowner then no because there are cheaper options out there for the occasional use.
Very well done! Thank you. Just subscribed.
No glass fiber reinforcement on the battery packs?! Ewww. Glad Craftsman got moved on, all their new tools for years were gimmicky and homeownery.
Jacob Thompson yeah Craftsman is a little better now, more up to date. Has a very bright future.
All the companys battery packs are ABS.
It doesn't need it. It's a poly carbonate abs plastic not regular abs. It's really strong and is used in a bunch of industries as a strong hi temp thermoplastic
Not surprised by this; Lowes may putting Kobalt in a holding pattern though they have some tools in a new XTR line, which from what I've seen so far seem to be impressive at the sale price point.
My guess is that Craftsman will eventually replace the Kobalt max tools, the XTR will become the in house premium brand to compare with more established names; i.e., Milwaukee, Rigid, and others.
Still, unless it was sold at a very low price point, I would not purchase it because Lowe's customer service is so poor. I have a Kobalt 24max drill that I cannot get repaired because I cannot get anyone to answer the telephone or respond to emails.
See if you can get help at the toll free number for warranty before purchase, then decide if this is the right brand of power tools for you.
I've had experience with Stanley/Black and Decker service/warranty, so the Craftsman situation should be okay. My reference above is about the Lowe's house brand Kobalt, just to be clear.
Very informative teardown. I expect that these will see frequent markdowns and combo deals similar to Ryobi. The $150 sticker price is really only meant for the poorly informed impulse shopper who walks into the store with a DIY project in mind. For everyone else, the sticker price makes them feel good when they snag one of these for half price during promos that run every 2-3 months. It's a profitable model for HD/Ryobi, so I think SB&D is trying to replicate the same thing with Lowe's/Craftsman.
However, it appears that with Craftsman, they've decided to mate high quality tools with cheap batteries. Ryobi currently uses high quality name-brand high-current cells in all their batteries, including the lowly 1.3AH, although this wasn't the case until recently. So I'm surprised/disappointed to see the cheap cells and cheap build quality on the Craftsman batteries. Cheap batteries are good news for SB&D because people will keep coming back for more, but it's bad news for consumers. In the long run, the brand will suffer from a 'unreliable batteries' reputation, something Ryobi has only recently started digging itself out of.
Great vid. Thanks!
I really enjoyed your video, I suspected that Craftsman was a re-branded DeWalt, but I would like to point out one small minor error. DeWALT is not Stanley/Black N Decker's top of the line brand. Its actually Stanley/Back N Decker's 2nd tier brand. Mac Tools is Stanley/Black N Decker's #1 tier "top of line" brand. Here is a link to Mac Tools Impact Driver .....I would be curious if the Mac Impact Driver has the same guts as the Craftsman & DeWalt does. Because a lot of guys would be seriously pissed off if they've spent top dollar for a Mac Impact only to discover that it is the same thing as a Craftsman from Lowe's that cost 1/3 the price. .....Maybe that should be your next video.

I'm sorry, but isn't ABS plastic known for it's impact resistance. So it may be a better alternativ on the batteri as it dosn't have to be super strong but may have to take an impact if you drop the tool? I may be totally wrong here.
kaiza94 you are correct. It’s also able to withstand 105 degree and still no melting point. Same stuff LEGO blocks are made of . Unbreakable. It’s hard to break unless you hammer the crap out of one lol Abs is pretty sturdy man
Im trying to fix a trigger from a Craftsman impact similar to this. Do you have any teardown footage of the trigger housing? This could make helpful fix and rebuilds.
The trigger electronics looks almost identical to the one in my dewalt multitool
Hi TOOL TEARDOWNS where is the bearings made in the DEWALTS BRUSHLESS models. It appears the CRAFTSMANS BRUSHLESS is very good qualitys and good price.
I wish I had a Dewalt to tear apart and find out. It very well might use the same bearings. I have seen CW bearings in some good quality tools.

So sick of seeing " Made in USA" stickers on products so obviously made else where. Don't mind products made in China when they are marked accordingly.
The more accurate label would read "Assembled in the USA with parts made in CHINA"
@@blazera7328 yeah, that is more accurate
@@blazera7328 It does say on the case "Made in the USA with global materials" meaning that the components could come from anywhere, not just China.
Legally, it's either Made in USA, Assembled in USA, or made/assembled elsewhere. Made in USA with global materials is just Stanley's marketing department. If they want to go with this nonsense, they should be forced to list where each and every part came from. I wouldn't be annoyed if they just used the assembled in USA label.
More like placing the name tag on in the USA then claiming it's made in the USA.
I had it bought it charged it used it once then I went away for a week came back battery’s were completely dead and the charger wasn’t working but I have old milwalkies and kobalt s that I don’t charge for months and are still fully charged and working so I instantly returned it
Ill stick with Milwaukee.
I hate being so brand loyal, but I just dont see why people buy anything but Milwaukee. The line up is the biggest and they are definitely the highest quality out. Wish they'd start making stuff in USA again.
Highly over rated.
AJ Green so is your mouth.
I use my Milwaukee m12 ratchets literally every day, they're absolutely fantastic and great warranty!
I love my M12 impact. Use it all day for electrical work.
$149 for a consumer brand tool I think is a little to much, especially considering the DeWalt isn't much more. This said it almost looks like a clone of the DeWalt where the average user probably won't see any noticable difference in performance, it's not a bad way to save a few dollars.
I think this one is hard to call. If I had the money and need, Id buy it. I want to see Stanley Black Decker make Craftsman into something again, so yes.
I know your not an electrical engineer but the difference between a BLDC and universal motor go a lot deeper than just a commutator
I never said I was listing every difference. To keep the video to a reasonable length you have to just hit the high points.
Tool Teardowns fair enough. The biggest problem with the commutator and brushes is wear over time. But torque and power consumption between the 2 is vastly different.
Are the batteries over wrapped to hide the manufacturer? Sometimes companies will wrap them to cover the OEM labeling.
Curious which is better the motor with brushes or without
I was going to say something about AVE but you probably get that alot. Good video, I enjoyed myself.
Just get the DeWalt and you get better batteries that can also be used in other DeWalt tools.
DeusExAstra LOL have you seen the 887 reviews? They're always burning up.
@@TheImtoomuch Funny how they don't burn up in normal use.
If you cut the outer teal sleeve off the batterie they might have markings on the metal.
Yes they come out of the same factory and in fact are the same
Thats exactly a dewalt motor
I’ve never met nor heard of anyone in the US assembled cordless drill. I’m quite sure 100% of these tools are made/assembled overseas for less than $1/hr wages.
The ones with the USA made sticker are assembled in my home state of South Carolina in the same factory as the US made dewalts.
Not clones all made by black and decker . dewalt, craftsman and yes some snap on corded tools
Stanley Tools makes black and deck, DeWalt, and Craftsman....
I think he meant re-badged
i was surprised by the CRAFTSMANship of that driver 😂
really though i thought this thing was gunna be a pile of s*it not too bad
The motor doesn't seem like there is much there but i guess they make enough rpm and power
Great info.
Thanks for the kind words.
to me it's really a close deal. Dewalt is sale on HD for $199, Craftsman for $149. Considering the battery housing material, 18650 battery, warranty length and the main body housing size difference, I don't know, maybe for some professionals those are essential criteria, but as a weekend warrior, I probably go with the new craftsman.
Made in USA or China doesn't affect my decision. There are shitty products made in USA and good products made in China, vise versa. As long as they do the job well, I don't care. I'll pick the one has the highest cost-effective ratio.
As for the battery, those numbers probably are the production date and week, I guess. It's either Samsung or LG battery. Here is a list for 18650 battery cells, (I didn't make it, but google it out from someone's share drive) drive.google.com/file/d/0B9KXttJ6nbz6VWUtcUtvZEY3dWc/view?usp=sharing
I'll keep my Bosch.
Great video!
The 887 is the one that catches fire, I'll stick with the 885.
I own two 887s, they get heavily abused in a professional contractor environment so, driving big lag screws and what you seppos call tapcons all the time. No smoke. If you try to wreck any tool you will most likely be successful, but my 887s keep going.
Thanks
Hi, sounds like you know alot more about this stuff then i do! Is this product ok for just DIY stuff on weekends or should i seel a similiar but better product? What do you suggest? Thanks
It's a rebranded dewalt, so it's plenty good. Better question would be what battery platform do you want to get into? I guess if you want multiple tools it would be a good idea to choose one company so they can all use the same batteries.
Is the anvil case made of plastic???
Since the Craftsman is now filling the slot just below DeWalt in the SBD lineup, I wonder what that will mean for portercable 20v. Also do the PC batteries work with the craftsman? They look similar, but it's hard to tell if the spacing is the same.
No they don't
