Our First & Last Mango Tasting 2022: Lemon Zest, Super Julie, Piña Colada, Sugar Loaf

- 2022 has been a very disappointing mango season for us here in our South FL garden. Our regular producers Peach Cobbler, Mallika, Carrie, Glenn, M-4, Honey Kiss did not flower at all. We had a few mangoes from Angie, a few from Super Julie and Coconut Cream. The only tree that fruited quite a bit was Fairchild. Out of the very few fruits we could bring these exceptional mangoes for tasting, Sugar Loaf, Pina Colada, Super Julie and we got a Lemon Zest from a friend up north in Coral Springs, FL.
Disclaimer:
We feel like sharing the same disclaimer because we still see people arguing about taste. Like many things in life that cannot be ever measured in a lab, taste is one of them. It is purely a subjective experience involving one's cultural conditioning. Exposure to certain types of foods during our childhood days, special liking of other types of fruit or candies and finding hints of them in mangoes play very heavy on the type of mangoes one likes or dislikes.
Also, the same mango variety grown in different parts of Florida (or the world) will taste different depending on changes in microclimate, annual rainfall, soil health, soil mineral and salt content, fertigation regimen (irrigation+fertilization), etc. so blanket statements about a certain variety's taste aren't welcome. Lastly, mango picked early / not fully mature vs picked at the peak maturity changes how they ripen off of tree; often mangoes picked green, hard & immature eventually change color and look nice but will not get optimal sweetness (brix) or the complexity of flavor that makes mango such a unique and tasty fruit.
Please don’t make assumptions about a variety based on your tasting of a mediocre tasting fruit! Try fruit from different places, different microclimates at different stages of ripeness.

I really enjoy your videos! You are very good at describing the flavor profiles, unlike other channels who just say "it's good" haha! Hope you get a better crop next year!
Your videos inspired me to plant more mango trees this year. I now have a Carrie, M4, coconut cream, fruit punch and one unknown variety my husband planted a couple of years ago 🤷🏼♀️. Going to plant more, still deciding 😋. I really enjoy your natural landscape and the symbiotic relationship between you and all the plants in your garden. I’m glad you’re back on UA-cam, and looking forward to hearing about your new project!
Great, you are back to do the mango testing.I always enjoy your beautiful video.😊
Congratulations on your new venture 😊🙏 that’s awesome!!!!!

We missed you, Satya, and will miss you some more!

I’m my garden Maha Chanook held huge amount of fruit! Everything else was low yield ..
Next year will be great!
Hat city are you in?
North Miami Beach
Can you tell us the average tree size for mango you taste?
You can see the size of some of my trees in last year’s video called “8 most productive mangoes”.
What are the top 5 mangoes you've tasted in 2022?
in 2022 i have tasted only 10% of what i got to taste in 2021. Coconut Cream, Sugar Loaf, Cotton Candy, Fairchild and Edgar have been noteworthy this year.
@@growpuravida This year was my first time tasting different mangoes, got them from shipping. Fairchild, Lemon Meringue, Edward, Zil 0-29, and Prieto were my favorite.
