Don't listen to any of the jerkoffs saying shitty job... people always will hate no matter what. question, how strong is that glue? if you had one large piece of mesh opposed to four separate cut outs, would you still use that to mount the grill? i have a cadillac CTS, and want to and a lower mesh grill similar the the cts-v.

This Dakota install, as well as many that are well older than this one are still on the road today. Since this video was made much of the newer videos I make use Pliogrip Plastic Repair #3. It works even better BUT comes at a much higher cost. If you have the budget to get the Pliogrip, then I would encourage it but if you're on a budget then the Automotive Goop is still a great choice for many applications.

That's a super clean home made car grill ! I was searching the cleanest system to attach the mesh on the grill, and yours is the cleanest and the easiest to do. Thank you.
I did a mesh grille on my '02 Dakota about 10 years ago. I had to saw off a small piece of the hood latch. Then I drilled a hole in it for a cable that hangs out of sight to behind the bumper. No unsightly hole in the grille. Whenever I have to take my truck in for inspection, etc, I just show the mechanic where the release is. Otherwise it would take at least a few minutes to figure it out.
That hood latch cut out is a deal killer Doesnt look good.I'd have to make a mechanism to trigger that hood latch from the lower fascia opening or right under front of truck.

Awesome so it is as simple as i was hoping it would be and shouldn't be a huge issue on an old ford powerstroke had a rock smack my oil cooler wasnt a big fan of that lol
Trace & cut out the 4 opening shapes on 3/4" wood, then make slightly smaller inside filler hammer blocks, then sand edges. Then hammer out some cool dimensional grilles

The hood latch needed an extension on it which mine came with that moves the latch handle to when you pop the hood you reach between the grill and bumper to open it.
I gave the customer what they wanted. There's 3 options for this install for the latch. 1) make a cutout as shown in the video. It's less than ideal but functional 2) extend the hood latch down by drilling into the safety release and running a cable down 3) do nothing and never open your hood again As I've stated before, the customer who the grill was made for in the video requested a cutout for the latch though, which is why it was done. If it were my personal truck, I would have opt'd for extending the latch down.
It would probably be best to sand the chrome off the plastic first. From there, you can prime and paint it and you'll probably see better results than just painting directly on the chrome.
I tried sanding and painting that factory "chrome" but the paint won't adhere. BUT, the "chrome" is only a very thin tin material that you can peel off. Under the tin/chrome it's black plastic. I still paint the plastic but after sanding, and buying paint made for plastics, it's way easier to paint over.
I have a 89 n 86 ford bronco full size n from 85 to 96 all the grills r pretty much the same so if u can do it to a broncos grill between 85 to 96 i would appreciate it alot

The mesh looks good but I think I would have figured out something different for the latch hole
There are some good write ups on the Dakota forums about extending the latch with a rod if this type of mod interests you.
Do you need to cut out the original grille inserts. Can you do the same thing and leave the factory grille all original?
Yes, you can do the same thing with the OEM grill still intact.
