I remember a while ago reading about how he recorded for emma, forever ago. he used a cheap audio interface and a free version of pro tools. he also used a 120 dollar ribbon mic for recording a lot of it. he also used an e bow and a chacon. really not a lot of gear, especially not expensive gear. he was really sick and his girlfriend broke up with him and kicked him out and his band kicked him out. he packed up all his stuff and left north carolina and went and stayed at his families hunting cabin in wisconsin in the winter and stayed there by himself where he wrote and recorded the album. one of his friends who he showed it to mixed it and put it up on tumblr without him knowing and the rest is history. inspiring story.
What is a chacon? Also, he used an SM57 for the album :)

Had a song stuck in my head all day but just the “on the mantelpiece” line and couldn’t for the life of me remember where it was from…and then it clicked. It’s such a great tune and testament to you guys nailing the brief.
There's an interview (I think on Kimmel) where he says he used the M1 for the beth/rest sound but they're both super close - great vid
yep! in the album stems, there’s a note with the patches that were used - i think the 2 r ‘super e.p.’ & ‘analogpad2.’ bruce hornsby also loooooooved the m1 stock piano sounds; u can hear them everywhere on the way it is & other songs on the record
it's 'pad piano,' not 'super e.p.,' apologies -- it's the same sound, just treated differently

A lot of the sound of 22,a million is also very much inspired by Vernon’s prior collaborations with Blake , and also just them hanging out lol.

You are mistaken, the Beth Rest Sound is a Korg m1, it's one of the stock presets called hyper pad and sounds nothing like what was used here. Any google search would have pulled that up. Rest of the video is neat.
