Wild to see him so young
I swear I was thinking the same thing as soon as I saw him! I've never seen him this young before.
Yes it is. I lo e the music 🎶 put to it is wonderdul. 😀
Thinking the same thing haha
He's a 21st century mind in an early 20th century body. In 100 years his stuff will still be relevant in the same way as Kierekgaard is today. @@ilivemylifeforthestarsthat3140
I think this is 1959, so he's in his mid-forties here.
I listen to Watts nearly every morning on my walks or on the drive into the office. It is a great way to get your mind right to start the day.
I am almost 74 and have seriously never feared death, even as it grows nearer. I love this brilliant man's thoughts!
Nothing to fear.
@@detrockcity3 yes there is
@@Waltyworldwere you afraid of getting born? Same thing.
Jesus Christ, who is God, is the Only Way to salvation.
Get right with Him before you die, then you will have nothing to fear.
Repent.
@@WaltyworldThen you will live in fear.
Mr. Watts. A true sage. Disorder and Order are either pole of the same thing, varying only in degree. One must seek balance, whilst keeping the swing of the Pendulum in mind as well. All of existence is a Paradox of the highest order. It is all quite real, and yet as ephemeral as a dream.
Wise man he was. Hope his enlightened soul shines on all the ones who are in search and need of it.
... bless you, too ...
According to the dualistic Taoist principles that Mr Watts believed in, calling someone wise is actually calling them stupid. ☯️

I think this guy is one of the reasons I’m still alive.
Always greatful to Alan for reminding us about the very basics of Life...
It’s not about what you say, it’s how you say it I guess lol. Bro said it so meticulously, it sounded like he was telling me the key to life Lmao
“Instead of looking at life as a contest it becomes a dance, it becomes a game. One doesn’t withdraw from it one doesn’t stop living.” Alan watts
Miyamoto Musashi - 'If you know the way broadly you will see it in everything.'
“To be good, you must know that you’re capable of doing evil”
- Jordan Peterson I think
You shouldn't be good !!! YOU SHOULD BE A MONSTER BUT KNOW HOW TO CONTROL THAT IS THE KEY
@Mike Howard, I disagree with the part where you said you shouldn't be good. Because in my opinion, being a monster only capable of doing bad things even when controlled, isn't something that I would want to be. And I think that what Jordan Peterson meant by being a monster and knowing how to control it is that you are aware of your capacity for evil but choose to restrain yourself from acting on it, acting only when absolutely necessary. And I think that exactly fits with what being a good person is, because you can't be a good person just because you don't know how to do evil, or that you are incapable of doing it, that's just you being naive and harmless. To be a good person is when you know you could hurt the other person but choose not to. An example of this is when a person criticizes you, you know you could punch him/her, but you choose to refrain to do so. This makes you a monster who is capable of doing bad things but knows how to control yourself. This also makes you a good person, because if for example there wasn't any law to restrict you and you could punch the person if you want to, and you didn't, that makes you a good person because you didn't want to hurt the other person just because of a meaningless critique. But it would be a different scenario when you're incapable of doing the evil in the first place, that just makes you incapable of doing so, not a good person, because you might want to hurt him but cannot because you're weak and incapable of doing so in the first place. It's like this, a person isn't good because he/she didn't murder, maybe he/she wanted to, but just can't because the law restricts him/her. [Edit] What makes a good person is that when he/she knows he/she can murder, but chooses not to, not because of the law or anything, but because he/she decided that it was not good and that it was evil. [end of edit]
If you're still reading this, I appreciate you. I just really wanted to explain it and see if I understand it enough for me to be able to explain it. And If I am wrong, I would encourage you to correct me, because no human is perfect and I would love to correct my mistakes if I made one.
@@furtywelsh3482 Ah, yeah sure, sound fun. Mmm... Okay here's mine, without someone's kindness and generosity towards one of Mike's ancestors, one of his ancestors might have not lived, destroying all the war situation scenarios. Although pretty sure it's not only war that could've caused this scenario to happen.
@@SolonOz spot on and we'll said , I said to my mother , who is a Christian (I'm not much to my mother's dismay) , after a discussion about my sins , that I don't need the Bible to give me my morals in life , I'm a good person anyway , I don't do those bad things because it doesn't feel right within myself , not because I'm told it's a sin . Balance is Everything
It’s crazy how so many great philosophers and spiritual gurus were from the past and it seems like today we have no one just our selfs i use their teachings today because today we have a new breed of them who charge you 10g for a course of what you already know. Our kingdom is within know thy self dwell in it & change you’re reality.
I believe we have one in our era. Look up Teal Swan

Wise beyond his years. R.I.P. Mr. Watts...
The symbol is showing that there is only one answer to both sides.
The duality presents a choice. A choice represents lessons. Lessons represent learning, learning represents living, and living represents choices.
Do we have free will? Who is choosing?
Did you not decide to comment?
Alan was so clear and certain. He lives on with his highly informative and brilliant teachings here on n YT. There are a few greats here and he is among them. Eckhart Tolle, Mooji, Michael Singer, Wayne Dyer, Tara Brach, Louise Hay; their wisdom is profoundly life-changing. I listen to them all the time and they are making me a better, happier person.
I am so grateful for Mr.Watts teachings. I was just in thought about this very topic and my finger so called accidentally hit something on my phone and this Blessing popped up… WOW God is good!
So so so much depth and wisdom. Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu.. Rejoice.
We must have darkness in order to have light. It is the darkness that gives us our depth...

It’s hard to realize we have to have darkness for there to be any light.
Light without darkness gives rise to no three-dimensional form. Consider any object that you can perceive: it is precisely because of the contrast between light and dark that allows you to see its form. This is self-evident if you draw or paint.
No Pain No Gain, this is so simple for me to understand

Absolutely love this. Duality used to bother me because I craved simplicity. I'm gradually letting go of that need, but I've come to understand that you can't appreciate light without experiencing darkness and vice-versa.

"You don't control your thoughts. You don't control your feelings. There is no controller." ~ Alan Watts
When you sit with your thoughts and realize BAM! There appears a thought. Bam! Another. And feelings arise with those thoughts.
Yet you haven't chosen any of those things. We learn, yes. And everything has consequences. And we have preferences and values, and we have a conscience - there's no getting out of any of those things.
But we don't choose. We don't choose our thoughts. We don't choose how things make us feel. Free will is an illusion. But not because we're under the thumb of someone else. But because choice doesn't exist. How would anything choose? By looking at a thing and seeing how it makes you feel. But you don't choose how you feel.
How would you choose a thought? By seeing how it makes you feel. Even if you value pragmatism, it's because you know it consistently leads to outcomes that make you feel good and are good for others (which makes you feel good).
Dive in to Alan Watts lectures, and look at your own mind. We don't choose. But we learn.
