“Perhaps the foremost interpreter of Eastern disciplines for the contemporary West, Alan Watts had the rare gift of ‘writing beautifully the un-writable’. Watts begins with scholarship and intellect and proceeds with art and eloquence to the frontiers of the spirit. A fascinating entry into the deepest ways of knowing.” - Los Angeles Times

This short video of Alan is like the short version of my new documentary or vice versa. If you lived what Alan is saying, you will love this documentary: The Connections (2021)
Many didn't get the message of Watts because people have been educated to be local and mechanical thinkers and can't grasp what Alan is saying without a mechanical explanation... Let's share The Connections (2021) to wake them up.

I think he philosophized himself into a slow alcoholic death because he just saw reality too damn strong. It’s harsh. @Greg Jacques : Isn't that essentially the point @North Island Bushcraft was indeed asserting? Just in a less explicit fashion: To my mind at least, the opening commenter made his/her comment in very skillful, appropriate keeping with Watts' ingenious, oxymoronic way of articulation. Watts' style was always characteristically multi - layered and what appeares upon first reading/hearing is not usually what it reveales itself to be upon closer inspection......Just a thought and absolutely no offence intended, so please don't think I'm digging you out or being an ass; I'm acutely aware I'm an irrelevant nobody whose opinion is pretty much irrelevant: Also that my opinion may very well be totally wrong!💙.

All film is higher quality than 1080p, what happens is two things. Film physically degrades, making it lower quality and once its convered into a digital format, the file degrades a little bit everytime the data is copied. Old videos look bad because of degradation, not because they couldnt film in high quality.

This video only spells out half of the dynamic. The acknowledgment of the illusion of control. The other half, is the illusion of powerlessness. They appear diametrically opposed, but are actually complimentary. They occupy the same space.
That space is the gap in time between our true self's recognition/acceptance of reality, and our rewriting of it to make sense of the chaos...impose meaning on it.
Meditation sits you in that gap. It places you not in a position of control or power...it MAKES you power and control. You recognize that YOU don't exist, but pure potential does. Pure, powerful, dynamic potential.
You can't change...because you ARE change.

Agreed. The ruling class will do everything in its power to keep the masses that way. Given how woke everything is becoming, things are only getting worse. Evolution must respond or else our species is liable to corner itself. A "new" breed of human must arise. This "new" breed will actually think for itself. This "new" breed will not fit into the herd. Whilst in the minority, this "new" breed will be considered "socially awkward" and on some kind of "spectrum". ;D
As for you allistics, stop being duped by the Left-Right paradigm. We can fly to the moon but not create a political system in which the Left and Right can abide by each. I smell agenda. It's nothing more than a TV drama of problems that don't even need to exist. It's just there to distract you from the likelihood that gov and corp are in bed with each other.

This video was taken about the time that I first heard his lectures broadcast on local radio here in Portland Oregon, [as simulcast from San Francisco,] while I was attending art college.
It wasn't until just about a year ago that I first realized so many of his lectures have now been re-released in UA-cam. It's so great to hear him again. And especially seeing him speaking in this video.
    Thank you for posting this.

If Alan Watts thought the world was at dead end in 1971, he ought to see how much the world has declined up to now in the year 2024, a full 53 years on. Sad. Tragic.

Back in early 2000 this man served as a great missionary who has been given all the way through these times. Greatful!

My marriage is failing and my 4 children loath me, despite my best efforts at being kind and good. I found Alan when it started going wrong a few years ago but now realize it doesn't really matter as it's all a game. We all have opportunity to come back and play another role if we wish. Next time I hope to do better.

Letting nature take it's course is about as laid back an attitude a mind can have toward life. There's actually nothing hard about it. The more you try to do something about the situation the further away you get from achieving your goal
