Shame on UA-cam for saying that this song goes against community standards it’s a great song with a group message

    • @marginallycompetentgourmet
      @marginallycompetentgourmet Рік тому +5

Interesting take on things. If it was actually "against community standards" you wouldn't be posting this comment, because the video would be gone. What they do have is essentially a trigger warning, so that people like the actual veterans that this song honors can be prepared to possibly relive some pretty serious shit. Maybe don't blindly react to social media talking points next time.

59 years later, this song was a must- listen: on this date, in this place.
My siblings and I owe our lives to the fact that my father served in Germany and not SE Asia from '63-'66. I firmly believe he would not have survived combat; and we would not exist at all.
To those who went, whether volunteered or "volunTOLD," I salute you all.

I'm so used to them flagging song that I love that I didn't read what it says, and it almost always comes up. I hate that they flag it, and even after you confirm it, you have to stop what you're doing to hit play. I've never been a fan of censorship of adults in a free society, especially on a song that speaks to the unspeakable price some have paid to keep it free

    • @zchris87v80

We lost my grandfather in February of last year he served alongside the 101st airborne division from 1960 until he was transferred to the 5 special forces group in 1962 where he spent the remainder of his career in the army as a communications specialists however he wouldn't talk much about his military service but when he did he would always say god bless the 101st he once told me a story about how one platoon from the 101st airborne went into and didn't expect to survive and in the end even though they sustained heavy casualties they fended off over 300 NVA regulars

@Boomers On a Ferris Wheel All I'm gonna say.is this. Sometimes we have to do the wrong thing, for the right reason. Showing a willingness to lay down your own life, for a loved one, is the right reason, and that is what that ink stands for. I'm pretty sure.He understands why you got it.
On the tattoo reference in the Scripture, you Also have ve to look at the history of that region. There were groups who, as part of the mourning process, would heavily tattoo them self, to honor, (for) their dead.
      IOW, Why.is a factor.
Keep in mind that this is coming from someone with Il Duce's prayer on his right ribs, and the family prayer from the Boondock Saints, over his heart, because he believes in what those prayers mean. Pretty much, if you spill the blood of the innocent, then, eith His blessing, your blood will also be spilled, if need be, by my hand.
As a father, friend, Brother, and a husband, I would lay my own life forfeit, for those I love, and if neccessary, die, or kill, to protect them, and those unable, of protecting themself.
Even Jesus told his flock to arm themselves, and if need be, sell their cloaks, to buy a sword, as it is better to be naked, than defenseless.

The father of nine in my close friends, and an ex, was there, 8 November, 1965. I still remember the first time he saw this video, and recognized some if the faces in it,.including the medic who saved his life. Aside from his daughter's wedding, last spring, it is the only time I've even seen him cry.
The next day, he sat down, and told us the story, from his boots, on the ground that day. Something we never asked about, out of respect for him. A habit that I picked up, growing up around marines and sailors, who served over there. I remember their tears, for those who didn't make it back, and for all who did, forever changed.
For those who served, and who are serving now, thank you.

Lawrence made history as the first living black man since the Spanish-American War of 1898 to receive the United States Medal of Honor for his actions. I also hope to visit Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado to visit the grave of a Korean War veteran who died with no surviving family members but was buried with full Military honors at Fort Logan. Also buried in Fort Logan National Cemetery are Stephen Curnow and Kyle Velasquez; two of the victims of the April 20th, 1999 shooting at Columbine High School.

This song always makes me cry. I enlisted when I was18 and arrived in Vietnam at 19. And like most combat soldiers I have dates in my memory that stand out. I was with the Recon Platoon of Echo Company 2/8 1st Cavalry Division . On the 8th of March 1970. We were surrounded , out numbered it was getting dark and the field we were defending was on fire. So yeah i can relate to this song.. There are no songs to commemorate the experience of what my friends and I went through or of the countless thousands of young soldiers who did combat in Nam. So when I hear this song I think back to my old friends . Gone now over half century and the tears come. Thanks for posting this

I understand that not too many people in this day and age, really truly know or understand about how truly horrific the tragic conundrums of the Vietnam War really was. As a child of a Retired USMC Vietnam Veteran, my Dad was one of the "lucky" ones to have survived the atrocities of the Vietnam War. It is utterly heart breaking to witness a soldier who is still fighting the same war that he left 30 years ago - and when that soldier is your father, it really makes you see things in a much more understanding and empathetic light.
I was born five years after the Fall of Saigon - which was when the Vietnam War had ended. I grew up watching how relentlessly haunted my Dad was from the unspeakable tragedies that he experienced while serving in the Vietnam War. I saw the way he simply couldn't help but to just re-hash the events over and over again, and what breaks my heart the most, is the way he suffered with so much that he just couldn't seem to find a way to forgive himself for... I'm not sure what those were, and I never asked him out of respect.
One thing that all of our Vietnam Vets had in common was the fact they all returned home to a grossly ungrateful country where they were commonly disparaged by their very own fellow American citizens. People spat in their faces, and commonly referred to them, not as patriotic soldiers, but as "baby killers". There was no recognition or support for the devastation that they had just been through, nor sympathies or acknowledgment for the soldiers who they had bonded with that were killed and had to be left behind.
I can only imagine the additional PTSD that this had to have had on many of them... So many of them were already struggling with all sorts of PTSD - but since PTSD wasn't yet a widely known or even understood condition yet - most of our Vietnam Vets were forced to simply deal with all the trauma they had just been through all on their own. Believe me when I say that their suffering was done in a deafening and absolutely debilitating amount of silence.
This is why I believe with every fiber of my being that it is our Vietnam Veterans who are some of the finest warriors God has ever put on this earth. They are the only soldiers in all of America's history who have had to know and feel the pain of their country’s insurmountable rejection and they had to carry on with the shambles that the Vietnam War left their lives in.
Because I wasn't born until 1980 - I am so glad that I didn't have to know a country that I love so dearly the way it was then... I can't fathom an America who rejects the soldiers who bravely answered the call to honorably fight for her... Then to turn their backs leaving them in the cold the way they did - it literally makes me so mad that I can't fight back the tears every time I think about how this must have felt for them...
I would just like to say to all of our Vietnam Veterans and to their families - that my family and I proudly honor, appreciate and acknowledge the tremendous service and sacrifices that each and every Vietnam Veteran so valiantly made. Today, yesterday and always. It is an honor to celebrate and acknowledge our Vietnam Veterans, and please know that your service will NEVER be forgotten.
As for me... Well... Some people dream of getting to meet their hero's. I was so very lucky to have been raised by mine. RIP MSgt Colin D. Broussard - USMC Retired - Operation Frequent Wind.

Can't believe this memorial song has a viewer advisory notice. How flipping sad is that? Almost sadder than the story this song tells.

This is one of the reasons we stand for the anthem and flag. No matter how you feel about the war. These young men and women went where their country asked them to go. The flag and anthem represents all our soldiers all the way back to the Revolutionary War. We wouldn't have a country to live in if they hadn't answered the call.

I served with Kelly E. Whitaker (@1:10) in the 101st Airborne (3/187th). We became best friends before he left for Vietnam. I found out about his death just days before I left for Vietnam in December 1965. SFC Brayboy was my platoon sergeant in the 101st and I only found out that he died 8 November 1965 earlier this year. RIP and God Bless You!

Today is November 8th, 2024. It's been 59 years to the day that these terrible events happened.
RIP to the men of the 173rd Airborne.
Blessings to those who served and survived.
Freedom always comes at a terrible cost.
May we never forget. And may these good peoples' memories be for a blessing.

This was my brother-in-law's favorite song, he passed away on Nov. 9th 2016. My sister played this at his wake. I can't listen to song without crying. He was a 20 year vet.
