✨ Midjourney Mood Board Deep Dive✨
How are Moodboards REALLY different from Style References (SREF)? I share examples to show you how these two Midjourney features differ. I also walk through how Moodboard Profiles interact with other parameters such as Stylize and Personalization. And toward the end, I share even more examples of how you can get creative with Midjourney's Moodboards.

Excellent video! So much so, that it took me HOURS (no exaggeration) to go through all options, make notes, etc. Great!
Thank you so much! I'm glad that you found it helpful!
I could watch your videos on repeat. Thanks
Your editing is amazing.
Thanks!
Such a great video with excellent explanations and examples .. my favourite use of moodboards is use with restructuring my photos into artworks.
Thank you!
Great work, explanation and video editing! Really worthy channel!
Thank you so much!
Very high quality and interesting overview video lesson. thank you!)🌟
Thank you, glad it was helpful!
Thanks for this very clear and informative video. The difference between moodboards and sref is clearer for me now and you gave some nice ideas to experiment with.
No problem, glad you found it helpful!
Thx!
If there is video on your channel in which you talk about the nuances and possibilities of working with the Remix mode in the browser version MJ? 👀
Maybe I missed it 🥲
I mention Remix Mode in my Beginner's Guide video: ua-cam.com/video/fjJDQdIbnHE/v-deo.html. I do not have a specific video for Remix on the web though.
Great video! Very useful info!
Thanks!
You really are a great educator, communicator, and expert in AI. Super useful and valuable, Woollyfern. Bravo. Subscribed!
Thank you so much!

Thank you!
Great Video - thanks for sharing
No problem, thanks!
Killing it!
Thanks!
wooly, muchisimas gracias por tus explicaciones, me encantan y siempre estoy esperando tus nuevas publicaciones, Tengo una duda, por que usas la versión 6 en vez de la 6.1?. gracias
Thanks! I prefer to use v6 instead of v6.1 most of the time. Just personal preference. V6.1 has too much beauty bias for me and can gloss over details. V6.1 is great for a lot of things like cleaner illustrations though. I have a video on my channel comparing 6.0 vs 6.1 if you're interested in seeing some side-by-side results.
@@woollyferncreative Thank you very much again for answering. I will review the video of the differences between the two versions, because I'm sure I've seen it before, but I'll review it again. See you soon,
I got no use for moodboards, once i find the style i like, it has to be consistent
That's ok, use the one that works best for your objectives and preferences. Moodboards can do consistent styles, but just a bit differently compared to SREF.
Wonderful video and AI gens!
QQ please: I'm experimenting with Moodboards atm, is there a prompt/method of loading in a swatch for MJ to stick too?
Do you mean like the color palette example I shared in the video?
@@woollyferncreative Hi thanks for your reply. Yes, along those lines...
I am trying to generate illustrations that use specific Hex #ref / RGB colour values (following a client's brand guidelines). I have tried:
- A moodboard with illustration examples that only use the specific colours
- a image containing only the swatch grid (affects the output to be cubist)
- mixing the moodboards and style refs
- and in other attempts included the Hex / RGB codes in the text prompt,
MJ will produce illustrations quite close to the desired swatch but not close enough, at the moment I need to re-colour the out put in Ps.
Thanks in advance :)
Yea, it likely won't be a 100% match to the hex or rgb. The best approach is to use a moodboard that shows images in the color palette you want and include the names of the colors in the prompts. I like to refer to the december color website: johndecember.com/html/spec/color3mobile.html. Midjourney has talked about creating a color reference parameter, but it's been pretty low on their priority list. A color reference feature would solve this issue though.
When does the creation of hybrid animal pictures come? Is there such a study?
Hybrid animals are possible in V6, but they are not easy. This should get easier when V7 comes out (soon).
So to be clear, if I was making a graphic story where I wanted a consistent drawing style, it would be better to use moodboard? Because style reference will always influence the couple etc
You could use either. If you have an SREF (code or image URL) that matches the style that you want, try that first. If you find that the SREF feels too restrictive (in terms of style, objects, or other content in the results) or the results just aren't what you want them to be, try creating a moodboard of images that represent the general style you are going for.
I highly recommend trying both to see which one is the best fit for the style you are trying to achieve.
I have an image generated on V5 I have try everything to replicate. My brain hurts trying and trying. The results are really horrible 😫 😪 😭
Are you using V6 to try to replicate the style or the exact image? If you are trying to replicate a V5 image with V6, using Remix actually works fairly well. On the website, go to your MJ gallery and open the V5 image. Then, find Remix in the lower right and click Subtle. This will put a prompt up in the prompt bar at the top of the page. Change the version to 6 or 6.1 and submit.
I couldn’t find the link for the v5 guide either 😮
