    This is why I just cruise in my lifted escalade ext. Slow and steady wins the race my friend. EVERYTIME JACK!

    You got lucky with minimal damage. Mine exploded the end of June. It was making noise and locking when backing up. Read low or bad fluid could cause that behavior. Bought the stuff to change the fluid and the rear drive delete happened before I was able to work on it that weekend. Pulled the cover and basically everything inside the carrier was shrapnel. I live near Drive Train Specialists shop so I took it to them because like you, I don't have tools or knowledge to set gear lash. $1300 later I have a Detroit True Trak. G80 had also wiped out the ring and pinion. They installed new bearings and seals and found the ABS rings on the axles were damaged when a previous repair person had put new bearings in and drove them in too far and damaged them. I just got it back last week and am finishing up reinstalling it this weekend.

      Thanks for subbing and the compliment! Wow!! Sounds like you’ve got one beast of an avalanche!! I doubt I’ll ever go that big with mine but I’m impressed!! Good luck with the future of your build! I always dig it when people build avalanches!

    Man that sucks sorry that happened to you . I'm glad you got it all back together and its rung good now. That is awesome they took the rear end back and only charged you $100.00.

      Thanks, it happens but just glad I was able to get it al back up and running (for the time being at least) and getting my cash back worked out too. Actually got to keep the rear and they just reimbursed me so now I have an extra carrier, ring, pinion, and axle shafts. Also a junk housing that I can practice welding brackets on now too. Honestly this couldn’t have worked out any better all things considering.

    Keep the 10 and put a True Trac in it. I tow pretty heavy and drive like an idiot and mine is still doing great. And it is always locked when it should be but you don't have to deal with chirping or eating tires

    i love the gov lock but it is only good for stock applications. it is great in mud, sand, and snow. it doesn’t like burnouts on pavement or rock crawling. you had an unknown high mileage g80 with 35’s and a six inch lift bad things will happen. save up a few bucks and get a detroit locker.

    • @jtmoffroad
      @jtmoffroad  4 роки тому +1

      I’d like to do either that or get a 14 bolt. If I get a Detroit I just gotta learn how to set up the diff once I swap the ring gear to that carrier

      jtmoffroad 14 bolts are awesome. if you get a military version, they come stock with a detroit locker. civilian ones come open or with the g80 but then you have the expense of new rims and updating your front axle. the 14 bolt g80 is stronger than the 10 bolt version.

    So, did it end up holding up?

    • @jtmoffroad
      @jtmoffroad  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for reminding me I need to do a follow up video haha. It’s been over a year and holding up so far! It does suck not having the locker anymore but the fix kept the truck going without a terrible amount of work or money

    Gov bomb strikes again. Time for a 14 bolt.

    • @jtmoffroad

      That would be the ultimate plan. Gotta do my research

    Get a Detroit Tru track locker, much more reliable the the the gov bomb G80

      Seems that’s the answer for the 10 bolt. I may have to go this route!
