    After having dynamic driver Loudspeakers for decades (and a few ESLs) I finally heard a pair of LRS. That so changed my world. Ended up with a pair of 3.7i and never looked back.
    As an audio engineer sure I still use dynamic cone driver loudspeakers for mixing but for pure musical enjoyment the Maggies are like no other.
    Highly recommended.

    I met Wendall 30 years ago when I sold Magnepan for Paragon Sound in Toledo. I was a 3rd year med student working part time. They sent me to the factory and after I went with Wendell to the orchestra that night. I toured the factory at Audio Research as well. Two of the greatest names in the production of high end audio there is. The fact that Wendell is still in the game speaks to his commitment and passion. I am working on trading in my YG' Anat's for the 30.7s now. There is nothing as alive as a Maggie.

    Despite what the rep claims, Magneplanar speakers do vibrate. The frame isn’t immune to smearing from vibration. Reinforcing the frame like with Mye Stands improves the sound noticeably.

    • @MichelLinschoten
      @MichelLinschoten 3 роки тому +2

      Still negligible compared to point source, we measured mgI, mgII, mmg,tympani (my personal reference weights about 100 pounds each side) and none of the speakers smear or suffered from excessive resonances. And most certainly not, enough spl to taint the sound field .
      The reason why the stands work is that you rise the speakers further away from tbe floor.
      You can do that with crates that cost 3 bucks and get the same results. I do agree the way they stand is a joke cheap stands and wobbles.
      No speaker on earth,is perfect but maggies right out the box?! Is a very very VERY good start.

      @@MichelLinschoten It is not negligible to my ears. Raising it off the floor with Mye stands helps clean up the bass. You don’t need a dedicated measuring device. You can feel the vibration of the MDF panel with your hand. I’ve had my Maggie MDF panel replaced with hardwood and additional bracing. It noticeably improve imaging and clarity in the midrange and high frequencies.

    I own a par of 20.7's as a replacement to my 3.6R using active cross overs. The biggest difference between the two is a substation increase in base... made me smile. Question: If I marry the 3.6R and 20.7 together, using s DSP for tuning, would it be a better system? Would it be like a poor man's version of a 30.7?

    • @MichelLinschoten
      @MichelLinschoten 3 роки тому

      No , the 30.7 specs 20hz on low end ,according to Gary they don't sell well at all.

    Wider off axis dispersion gives better power response. If that was all I cared about was highest power response I'd go for an omni-directional like MBL or Ohm Walsh drivers.

  • @gerritgovaerts8443

    It's more accurately called constant directivity . Floyd Toole was not the only one who stressed its importance , Siegfried Linkwitz also did and his designs were centered on it . This is really the overwhelming characteristic that makes speakers sound bad or good

  • @gerritgovaerts8443
    @gerritgovaerts8443 4 роки тому

    Yep , do not mix different dispersion patterns if you want constant directivity . Monopole bass does not couple well to dipole mids . But you could explore a classic electromagnetic woofer driver mounted in an dipole H-frame or a Ripole

  • @reaality3860
    @reaality3860 4 роки тому +1

    The first thing this demo shows is that you need a really big room where these speakers can breathe. Small rooms need not apply. Not as obvious is the high-current megabuck amplifiers needed to get the best sound from 'Maggies'.

    • @dontcare563
      @dontcare563 3 роки тому +3

      If you had a smaller room you wouldn't need as big of speakers in the first place. Also its a COMMON MYTH that you can overload a smaller room with big speakers. If anything the problem will be with the bass but that is speaker dependent. Look for a UA-cam video from Eric at Tekton that addresses this exact issue!

      The 30.7 has to be at about 7ft because of its low end capability. It's the only planar I know that can reach 20hz on significant db numbers.
      They don't sell well tho
