I was partly through the education system when the neoliberal project took power. This has put me in a position of believing that education for it's own sake is valuable while all of the younger people I work with are genuinely baffled by the very idea that someone would seek education if it wasn't instrumental. It makes me worry for the world. Well that and a lot of other things.
it's not just the schools that kill creativity and adaptability. It's the fact that you have no say in how the company is run, and usually no stake in how the company does. so why would you really care? When you look at tiny start-ups where workers feel they do have a say and a stake, you often see great creativity
Awesome! Now, how do we get Ian Gilbert in front of all our teachers? I'm just back from parents evening and the 'negative' was that my child is too sociable in class (year 2), I didn't see it as a negative ;¬)
wow this is a great interview, I also believe there is a complete failure of the moral compass. Yes getting people to care as they have not developed the critical thinking skills. Neoliberal -> denigrate privatise then run (having stripped out the value )...
Oh I love this guy..
Wonderful!

Ian Gilbert, perfectly portrays the flaws in the schooling system of my country! (22, Costa Rica)
