- After hitting New York for some Sneaker Shopping, actor-director Jonah Hill, Sunny Suljic and the rest of the Mid90s cast arrived at HYPEFEST to break down their time on set. Na-Kel Smith, Olan Prenatt, Gio Galicia and Ryder McLaughlin join a freewheeling chat where the actors and director touch on various topics, ranging from acting jitters to skateboarding.
Smith, a talented skater in his own right, touches on the genesis of his skateboarding career and his open-minded approach to inspiration. Director Jonah Hill similarly breaks down the direction fueling the film’s screenplay, explaining how he sought to recreate authentic conversations in the dialogue and why he enjoys watching Mid90s with a live audience. Finally, Olan Prenatt touches on how he wrangled his nerves on set, while 13 year-old Sunny Suljic admits that he’s actually younger than HYPEBEAST.
You can see that the cast are pretty much the same on screen and off. This movie was great for that raw and real feel

hearing Na-kel Smith say that u can contribute to the “skate scene” in different ways whether it be art, movies, the fashion, etc. is so refreshing. a lot of the time there’s so many toxic skaters who gatekeep skating and call ppl “posers” for liking the “aesthetic” of skating. so hearing Na-kel basically say if u like it u like it and just be yourself it’s not a competition, that’s honestly so dope.

I saw it last week, I been wanting to go back and watch it again everyday since. Short movie but a lot of "oh shit" moments that make it too relatable to anyone that grew up skating and being music heads with the rap shit. I could relate to a lot of scenes that reminded me of moments in my life.
