If you combine his MLB stats with Japan stats, he was one of the greatest players in the game. The guy hit 2646 hits and 507 Home Runs combined. Not to mention he was always so clutch. One of my favorite Yankees of all time. Thank you Godzilla!

The best quality about him was that he was so clutch. He hit hard when the team needed it the most. Sadly stats don't tell that story, but anyone who saw his games will remember. He and Jeter kept the morale of the team up with hustle plays.

grrrindz I agree and they're HOF chances are scarce because of that I'm a Dodger fan and I can't believe Nomo wasn't inducted if he was like the Jackie Robinson for Asian Americans tbh I'm a Yankees hater but Matsui and Jeter were the main reasons I started to Love baseball as a 8/9 year old before that basketball was my favorite (and of course I was a Laker fan) but now even though I like basketball I love baseball more

I'm Japanese, I like Matsui, and I think he's a decent player, but wouldn't dare say he's HOF worthy or anything near that.
But still, I think it`s fair to say that he`s one of the greatest Asian players to have ever played in the major leagues.... still waiting for an Asian hitter to have a season like `04 Matsui.
