I imagine that being someone who doesn’t play much current gen watching gliscor get banned is like tuning into the news and finding out that someone you knew from high school you haven’t spoken to in years is extremely famous and successful now
Gliscor is that one friend in high school where they were never the flashiest but they always got stellar grades and knew how to leave a good impact on the teachers.
I don’t think Tera is actually a factor for its Gen 9 ban. I think it was mostly because it’s Gliscor, but also with spikes, in a metagame where spikestacking is stronger than it’s _ever_ been. I can’t see it getting banned in a world where it doesn’t have spikes
Nah, I think the recovery nerf is also quite a meaningful buff for Gliscor. Lot of mons that could outheal / outstall things in Gen 8 just can't do it anymore with 8PP, in longer games your pivots run out of healing, whereas Gliscor in essence just has infinite healing. Like Chomp got spikes and is still borderline OU
@@Arterial449 Recover buff is also a big factor, I agree. I think Gliscor getting spikes is way more impactful than Garchomp getting spikes, though, because Scor has so many more opportunities to actually set up the spikes in the modern metagame than Chomp does thanks to its longevity. Chomp has almost no longevity and that can be abused, plus it’s outclassed by the huge amount of ground types in the modern metagame formerly including Scor
Gliscor honestly doesn't like Tera-ing too much, but when it does it's Water. Good defensive type and an ice and water resist. But a big thing about Gliscor is that running it generally means you can run a mon that likes/needs tera like Gambit or Garg or Roaring Moon.
Mildly interesting video idea: what are some underrated/obscure types/uses of hidden power? Especially HP Dark, which is basically a free special Dark move for anything that wants it. The main place i *could* see it used is ADV Blissey, so it can actually do something to Gengar while still hitting Psychics. Probably not that great, probably pretty niche, but i really want HPDark to be good somewhere. Come on! It's the HP you get when you have perfect IVs! There's no drawback!
One thing that happened that I found really interesting was that during Gen 8 (and before it returned in Gen 9), new players would sometimes ask why people used Gliscor in older Gens, because at face value it seemed like a diet Lando-T But when Gliscor returned in Gen 9 people were asking the opposite: why use Lando-T when Gliscor exists? Also 40:26 no sadly it didn’t. Not only was Gliscor with Tera not *that* good (because you lose your spikes immunity, but it can work against teams without Spikes), Gliscor gained Crabhammer in Gen 9 so it could just use that instead
one of my favourite Gliscor moments was MTGXerxes' Gen 4 mixtier tournament series where he blitzed through his first opponent's team only to be faced with last mon Gliscor with Taunt, Toxic etc., realising that the thing literally 6-0'ed him in return (for a 1-0 obvs). His only way past it was to repeatedly switch in his Tauros for multiple intimidates so his Blaziken (otherwise beaten by EQ) could switch in on a Taunt or whatever, eat an EQ & Life Orb Overheat it. Dude was 1 timely crit away from losing to our lovely purple scorpion from a 6-1 position XD
I tried out a really gimmicky gliscor set way back. It was by no means good but on paper it sounded really appealing. Basically its a fling, thief gliscor. You get the toxic orb poison, fling it to toxic an opposing mon, thief leftovers and suddenly you have a gliscor that recovers 3/16 hp per turn. The issues are probably completely obvious. You only have 2 move slots left for actual moves which no matter how you shake it is not enough to achieve anything. You can't run protect, taunt, swords dance, etc because then you literally only have one decent offensive move and if you thief a choice item it becomes useless. It has to run 2 offensive moves so like earthquake and acrobatics meaning you can't fully capitalize on the poison heal + leftovers you got. But you can thief other items than lefties and still have a poison heal gliscor with a banded acrobatics or something. Very gimmicky, not good in the slightest. Still felt it was very cool. The other issue is that it takes 3 turns to get the toxic on gliscor without protect, fling the orb, then thief. Really bad. But i did get it to work low-mid ladder a few times. I experimented with similar sets for every pokemon that holds an orb and could learn thief and fling. Which was a lot. None of them any good but you get great ideas into your head like guts scarf machamp or banded guts bullet punch machamp. Can actually work under the right circumstances since nobody predicts a machamp to burn them which can give you a free turn to thief something.
A very VERY long time ago now in the early days of XY, i played an OU game against some random on cart at high school. you would not believe what happened >gliscor dodge in sand into win the game. wouldn't be surprised if the garchomp was also sand veil.
Feels to me gliscor's ban is more of a meta statement than anything, once the meta resets with dlc 2 and we get "final" calls on tera and ghold we could end up seeing a different value of gliscor sans recovery. I just have a hard time imagining it broken if there's action on those + an increased mon pool. The bigger shocker from an outside perspective is this happening with tusk and lando in the game (easier to fathom from an inside perspective with lando's even harder nerfs).
@@toastprobably9774 id hardly call that fallen. he fell because they cut off all his legs and gave him an eyepatch. we would not be here if everyone kept their moves.
I almost wonder if losing defog might have made it better because if defog gliscor was around then it would also be the best hazard removal meaning it couldn’t keep all its hazards up? Probably not because then people would just run defog gliscor everywhere

Im gonna be THAT guy but feels so much like a Gholdengo issue. It can force the defog which still makes it an A list spiker but it doesnt just sit and keep spikes forever like it does with Gold.

has anyone ever used thief gliscor in gen 6? like it gets its toxic orb activation, gets knocked off, then uses thief to steal something’s leftovers to get poison heal + lefties. does that ever make sense
no because your gonna end up taking a choice band by accident and ruining your glisgor. Glisgor also really values every one of its moves, so you cannot really afford a slot on something so niche.
"I drive (the metagame)" Gliscor responded when asked if it was the inspiration for the scorpion jacket in Drive (2011)
You also say it how I do. This is sane.
yooo its him
I know it, I know old money is behind all of it and avoiding the ban

I'd like to think BKC will be talking about his own kids in the same detail he talks about his favourite metagames years from now.
But we'll never know because his kids will be called Superachi, Scarfchomp and C.B Gross
30 seconds of talking about your friend having a kid into 60 minutes of talking about Gliscor is an instant BKC classic.
Maybe the real glee score is all the protect poison healing we got along the way
I just want to say I appreciate the alliteration in the video title

Well, Lando-T lost a lot of its most important tools for nothing, while Gliscor got spikes and a partner that makes clearing spikes really hard.
