Fun watching Rick's boat coming back to a true Sophisticated Lady. I get to babysit Lucky on my boat whilst all this work is going on, so more fun! Watching all the great work means I will use this yard when I next have to haul out
Another excellent series. You do it Right. Thanks for reminding those who dream of a life onboard that it takes constant work and preparation to continue enjoying paradise.
thanks for sharing the behind the scenes. Watching your videos have made me really consider where i want to end for retirement years from now, and i have been trying to see the behind the scenes of sailing maintenance. i look forward to seeing the real aspects to sailing, the hard work you put in to be able to see the beautiful sights you get to see.
Thanks for your comment! Next video in the series being posted today, so keep an eye out and soon the entire playlist will be available on my channel! :)
So glad to see that you are doing this series. Like so many I live life vicariously through you and hope to leave the snowy north in about six years. It will be great to see what is involved. Our boat now is in Georgian bay fresh water and used seasonally of course.but we dream about going south every day.
Glad you enjoyed the video Dave, and yes I'm well familiar with Georgian Bay, sailed there for many years and up into the North Channel.. beautiful area, but very cold for even most of the season! :)
Great Idea Rick. As someone hoping to follow in your foot steps I personally would really like to se the nuts and bolts of day to day life. I mean NO ONE shows how to go to the grocery store, how to find internet connections, or just the small things one needs to do all the time.......... I eagerly await your series.
Looks like this is going to be a GREAT series!! I feel like the little 18 day haul out I just did was nothing compared to what you are undertaking. Looking forward to seeing and learning lots from the series! :)
I also just subscibed.... Here in Sweden the Winter is long an Cold so its good to see others doing what I need to do but in a much better enviroment.... Warren s/y Legend
Love your vids! I hope to be doing the same thing in 10 years. Please let us know what cost would be for the work and what a cruiser might expect in annual upkeep. Keep up the great work. You have the most beautiful videos on the web!
Thanks Rick! I'm looking forward to seeing the progress. I've spent a lot of time in a ship yard for haul outs on a 1969 45' Twin Diesel Egg Harbour sport fisher. Now this place that hauled out The Sophisticated Lady really do it right! Good luck and make 'er shine! Oh, have any businesses asked you for aerial footage of their place for advertising purposes? I bet there is a good market for that for you. Seeing The Beach Bar from the air in Cruz Bay, ST. John would be pretty cool. John
I don't have a particular boat item that needs to be covered, but I would like to hear actual costs as you go along. Marina fees, mooring fees, labor costs, etc. I know IGY is a sponsor so some costs may be covered by them, but any costs you can share are helpful so we can estimate costs for living "just another day in paradise".
Looks like fun! I hear the same comments - 'must be nice Livin' The Dream, you're so lucky'. Yes, we sure are lucky, but as you know, the work that goes in to keeping the whole operation 'afloat' requires a full time effort. . . Between Corona breaks, that is ;-)
Hey Rick, this looks like a great series. I am wondering what a paint job like that runs. I am guessing it depends on where you are, but down there what is a ball park figure for a paint job that goes down to the bare bones like that?
Looking forward to the overhaul Rick, by the look at her bottom you've been burning the candle at both ends. Is that her first haul out in ten years? Looks like she has treated you well, she deserves a little pampering at the spa.
Rick.....I enjoyed this video, especially the promise of upcoming topics. I couldn't help but notice that you have a Perkins. Which one? I have a Perkins Prima 50 in my Beneteau 42 s7. It has an external timing belt that I should replace. If you have the same I was wondering if you have any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks....
I would have really liked to know about pricing even though you apparently do not have to think about that as the boatyard is your sponsor. Too bad because that is a really important issue for many of us. What about import duties in St. Lucia as well?
Communications on board? What do you have for typical ship to shore or ship to ship, long distance, satellite.. And cell? Internet connections? This is a communications now world I just wondered what happened on sophisticated lady???
I had satellite for a few years, but it was expensive and slow, and then Globalstars satellites starting falling out of the sky, so my $4000 phone system turned into useless space junk. Now we use cellphones and USB modems, long range antennas for wifi, and I still have a long range SSB radio onboard for trans-ocean communications with other stations when at sea. Will likely get satellite again in near future now that prices are more reasonable and satellites more reliable.
Rudder is all fixed and remounted already, we video documented the entire repair so it will be in one of the next couple episodes for sure.. so stay tuned! :)
Does Lucky get freaked out going to new places ? I used to let my parrots go on the porch to eat popsicles, but we have gotten a lot of hawks over the years and a large population of bats so it's no longer safe to do that... :-(
she never gets freaked out about anything, she's lived onboard for over 10 years with me, and 60,000 miles.. she's well broken into changing surroundings and different people around all the time as we were doing charters onboard for over 7 years

This is exactly what I wanted to see, dry-docking and maintenance. Thank You!
Hi Rick, love your videos, glad to see the day to day refit of your sailboat. Looking forward to your future vids.
Great idea Rick! Looking forward to seeing all the maintenance that is involved to keep SL running and looking great.
Another excellent series. You do it Right. Thanks for reminding those who dream of a life onboard that it takes constant work and preparation to continue enjoying paradise.
Rick, this is going to be my favorite series from you, I bet. Film and post everything!!
Will do the best we can Brian, new episodes coming soon to finish the haulout, so keep an eye out! :)
Looks like another winner Rick .... really looking forward to this new series ... especially the gear reviews !

Thanks for watching James, more to come soon! :)

You're welcome, and thanks for watching! :)
I live the idea of having a wee boat but haven't a clue what's involved owning one so this series will be brilliant xxx
Glad you enjoyed, will do our best to make it as informative as possible for you! :)

This is a series I've been looking forward to a while. It's so uncommon for this side of things to be shown
Lots more coming, so keep an eye out! :)
Looking forward to videos to follow and hoping to learn a few things. Thanks for sharing.
Not sure why this popped up on my feed considering the date, but we are currently in Rodney Bay. Fantastic marina!
Awesome start, I'm looking forward to following this series.

Yes I did thanks..... I'm looking forward to the whole series...
This is why I like Aluminum hulls.

Interesting video. Thanks.
This is a very ! good idea, please go into detail about how all the things are done !
Thanks, and will do the best we can! And don't be afraid to post suggestions of things you'd like to see covered in the series as it evolves! :)
Looking forward to the series!
Glad to hear, and don't be afraid to make suggesting anything in particular you'd like to see covered in the series! :)

fantastic series please keep up doing these vids
Спасибо! Rick
Glad you enjoyed, thanks for watching! :)
This should be a fun series....Where are you and Lucky staying while the boat is on the hard? Aboard?
Looks like fun! I hear the same comments - 'must be nice Livin' The Dream, you're so lucky'. Yes, we sure are lucky, but as you know, the work that goes in to keeping the whole operation 'afloat' requires a full time effort. . . Between Corona breaks, that is ;-)
I've been spending days on a friends boat to work on video and internet, and going back to boat to film certain things, and sleep in my own cabin
can't wait
thats wonderful
Perfect timing... I just purchased a 40' sail boat ... they say when a student is ready a teacher will appear..
Glad we can help! More videos to follow soon, so keep an eye out! :)

I have the Perkins 4-236 4-cylinder, M90 version. Not sure about your belt issue, but I'm sure someone out there can help! :)
Please tell me how long is the Sophisticated Lady & who made her?
I would have really liked to know about pricing even though you apparently do not have to think about that as the boatyard is your sponsor. Too bad because that is a really important issue for many of us. What about import duties in St. Lucia as well?
What boat is that, a Beneteau?

Are you going to fix your rudder? How much did all this cost? Good heavens!
Rudder is all fixed and remounted already, we video documented the entire repair so it will be in one of the next couple episodes for sure.. so stay tuned! :)
Now I get to see how I should have done it.
Why, did you do it wrong too Phil? Lol
Thats going to be a big job looks like. To bad they don't make engine work easier.
I think on Cats it is.
Does Lucky get freaked out going to new places ? I used to let my parrots go on the porch to eat popsicles, but we have gotten a lot of hawks over the years and a large population of bats so it's no longer safe to do that... :-(

Rick Moore~ That's great ! It may be exciting for her to see some much new things... Great video as always Rick !
You never mention how much it cost
Yea looks like she needs some work , look forward to watching
There's a lubricant that makes all boat repair easy. It's called MONEY
You sound annoyed by the dudes in the marina
yawn
